This trade is mostly centered around Gordan Hayward, Enes Kanter for Greg Monroe and a future first round pick.  There has been a lot of talk of Monroe being traded away from Detroit due to JSmith’s contract and I really like Monroe and Favors playing together more that Kanter, who has digressed as the season goes on. Hayward  will be a restricted free agent this summer and I cant really see paying him more than 10 mil a year when at best he is a second or third option on a good team.  This trade allows Smith to play the 4 and adds a willing passer at the 3 position for Detroit.  Utah gets another first round pick along with a skilled big to play along side the defensive minded Favors, plus they have the cap room to resign Monroe.

Detroit: Gordan Hayward, Brandon Rush, Enes Kanter

Utah: Greg Monroe, Charlie V, future first round pick

Detroit giving up a future all star and 1st rounder for someone you don’t feel is worth 10 mil a year and is at best a 2nd option and a backup center and journeyman in rush if that happens joe dumars might as well hand in his resignation

Joe Dumars SHOULD hand in his resignation.  The trade isn’t ideal but you have to look at it under the prism of money spent for production.  Greg Monroe might find himself as the odd man out in Detroit, which is unfortunate, because Josh Smith has been signed to a terrible contract (per his production) and is most likely going to be able to contribute more as a stretch 4.  The money committed to Smith will probably prevent the Pistons from having enough salary cap space to retain Monroe since the Pistons are now committed to Smith and Jennings for a few seasons at high priced contracts and Drummond is the #1 asset Detroit currently holds.  Monroe will be, if I am not mistaken, an UFA which will probably mean that a team will offer Greg more money than the Pistons can afford to match.  It’s a shame, because in Dumars started off EXTREMELY well with the Pistons as the GM (which I love since he was such a great guy and amazing player for them), but I can name 3 HUGE mistakes that have set the franchise back for a decade without batting an eyelash.  #1, Darko.  The best draft we have seen in years and he took the only player who wasn’t an All-Star for a decade out of the Top 5.  This is more forgiveable than the next 2 major missteps because every GM makes a mistake during the draft. #2, he cleared cap space and wasted it by EXTREMELY overpaying Ben Gordon and Charlie V.  This was so bad that it led to a rebellion in the lockerroom last year, stunted the growth of some of the younger players he correctly drafted, and actually cost the Pistons a draft pick by unloading Ben Gordon on Charlotte.  Of course, this helped him clear cap space for him to bring in Brandon Jennings (losing their former top pick at PG in the process) and Josh Smith, which is mistake #3.  The Josh Smith signing, as I said before, is just terrible.  It seems as if Dumars outbid himself to get a guy in Smith who is playing out of position and is nowhere near being able to live up to the salary commitment his contract should demand.  If you compound the fact that Smith’s replacement in Atlanta was an All-Star this season (and signed to a much friendlier contract for the Hawks) AND that in order to increase production from his big money player in Smith he will have to most likely move him back to the 4 spot AND let Monroe walk, this was just terrible.  It shows that Dumars doesn’t know how to handle asset retention and also doesn’t know how to wisely spend money when he is able to clear money off the books.  He basically traded Ben Gordon, surrendering a pick in the process, to clear out salary cap room to sign Josh Smith to a terrible contract which will force them to cut ties with Monroe (who has possible All-Star potential and was a "homegrown talent").  All of this and they aren’t even a playoff team in a terrible Eastern Conference.
