I’m usually kind of loath to propose these because the mere mention of trades brings and almighty rain of negs but in regards to Detroits currently awful position I was thinking would anyone take Smith? And the only team that I could say might (key word MIGHT) be stupid enough (unless Dumars decides to take up another, simulaneous job) is Brooklyn. So here it is:

GSW Give: Barnes (to Detroit), Jefferson exception

Detroit give: Smith (to Brooklyn), Stuckey (to GSW)

    Brooklyn give: Garnett (to Detroit)

Detroit would do it (if I were them) to unload Smith, get a great young peice at a position they need and allow them to reset to where they should have been this year – building around the Drummond/Monroe tandem.

GSW do it to gain the bench punch from Stuckey that they quite deperately need if you look at the numbers for their second unit

Brooklyn might do it, I realise it’s a long shot but basically they get a solid PF to put next to Lopez and with a good pass first point in Williams maybe his play can improve. This does assume Garnett is ready to retire as I don’t see him buckling down in Detroit for 1 1/3 seasons for his last contract.

This also probably needs balancing with picks, GSW will want more than Stuckey for Barnes a d Brooklyn will probably want anothet asset (pick or player) to take Smith/lose Garnett.

    Thoughts?

I feel as if GSW gets robbed here.  Harrison Barnes might be a 2x All-Star in the future, he has that kind of potential.  Sure, Stuckey is a very good player, is in his prime, and could be a good fit with the shooters in GSW but Barnes’ longterm potential would be a reason they keep him.

Klay Thompson’s and Stephen Curry’s games are timeless, meaning they’ll be good well into their 30s.  Harrison Barnes is only 21, when Curry is over 30, Barnes will be in his prime, keeping them in contention.

I don’t see why they would do this, it doesn’t help them all that much in the present, much less in the future.

I’m sure GSW would do it in a heartbeat.  A core of KCP-Barnes-Monroe-Drummond has a lot of long-term potential and would be a quality PG away from being very good.

Brooklyn gets a steal here, Garnett for Josh Smith?  I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

To me GSW is in a win now mode, they made that move for Iguodala in order to accomplish that.

I honestly like the trade idea, Barnes needs a shot to play meaningful minutes and in Detroit he compliments Drummond and Monroe well.

Stuckey would be a great addition to GSW as scorer of the bench.

Smith with clearly help defensively in Brooklyn and I can see him being made useful there.

Iguodala and Lee are 30 which means they have about 3-5 high quality years, same with 29 year old Bogut.  The young team will get better around them, I think they have a bit more of a window than you think.

I wouldn’t want Stuckey if I was GS though he doesn’t pass it much and why give up Barnes when you don’t need to.

Also they are in win now mode but most of their players are still very young.

The West will drop in 2 years once father time catches up with Duncan, Dirk.  I’d keep Barnes as his value will only go up and they can get some better bigs for him in a trade possibly.

the warriors would consider this deal as much as they detroit would consider a swap of Andre Drummond for Jermaine O’neal and Marshoon Brooks

its easy to type some short sighted reason for detroit to do it without valuing the player they will be loosing. detroit should do this deal because it will allow Jermaine to mentor Greg Monroe while playing solid back-up minutes at the 5 spot. it will also allow monroe to slide at center and allow smith to play pf. it gives brooks an oppurtunity to play minutes.

detroit shouldnt think that they will be loosing a talented young player in drummond. they shouldnt think that his contract is a bargain for the type of player he is. they should think that if brooks and jermaine actually play well they wouldnt be asking for a better contract than what they just got.

i wonder if its trade offers like these that Chris Grant would make and caused him his job as a GM. if i were the warriors gm, i wouldnt want to listen to future offers of this gm, and even when i did, i wouldnt take it all that seriously.

If I’m GS, the only guy on Detroit that I’d trade Harrison Barnes for is Andre Drummond and there’s no way Detroit would do that. Barnes isn’t going anywhere. They called him untouchable last year. If anyone should be traded for parts, it’s David Lee… if anyone could take his contract. He’s great on offense, bad on D, and Harrison Barnes rocked PF last playoffs.

I dont understand this "win now" mode if it doesnt mean getting to the championship game.  while bringing in Stuckey would slightly improve the Warriors, its not enough to make them WC champs I dont believe.  Then you would regret giving up Barnes in a few years.  It takes time to build a team.  This deal works for Brooklyn and Detroit but I dont see how it does for GSW.  I just dont see them doing it.
