kingofbumsParticipantGot a question for you guys. What do you think Masai should do about dwane casey? Clearly not a good overall coach, but with the success of the raptors this season how can he be let go right?
I think he definitely needs to be shown the door. He is not a coach that can help his squad beat elite teams and this playoffs have shown just that. He has struggled to beat a heat team with no bigmen and a pacers team that only had one player. Yes you can say the losses were also on demar and lowry but as a coach there were many times where the raptors were still winning and he would make some awful personnel decisions to cost them the game. A big one was taking out biyombo at the end of game 4 against the heat. Also, it took him how long to realize that JV should be one of the focal points of the offence? Even then, he refuses to dump the ball inside on a consistent basis no matter how easy the buckets are for JV. Then, you look at his playbook and lets be honest, theres only two plays in it. The high pick and roll that everyone knows is coming after the 3-5 minute mark hits in the fourth quarter and the ISO plays for demar. Lets not forget that this is the same coach who came into these playoffs running the same type of offense which was proven to be very ineffective for playoff basketball the past two years. For these reasons, I think that Casey is not a coach that will help the raptors get over the hump to become an elite team and therefore, he has to be booted.
I also understand that some of you may say his team has improved every year since he got the gig. But to me, that success has been more about the maturation and development of demar and kyle than it is about caseys coaching.
This is just my opinion and has been for much of the season no matter what the results were in the playoffs. Would love to hear what others think and have to say.

PicknPopPaulieParticipantI’d keep him but only if Derozan exits. He has a laissez-faire approach to coaching the offense and has not been able to reign Demar in, if he’s tried at all – I feel as if they are advancing in spite of his play and not because of it. Indiana and Miami (with injuries) are not conference finals teams and the fact that it took 7 in both series’ worries me as a Raps fan. Look at Demar’s field goal % throughout – terrible. He’s a minus defender and does not make his teamates better with the pass… I know this sounds more like a Derozan critique than Casey but I think he should have dealt with this huge issue ealier in the season – modified the offense to allocate more shots to JV or something, getting away from hero ball.this problem has reared its inefficient head so many times in these playoffs.

negguaryParticipantBut I don’t think they beat the elite teams no matter who the coach is….the reality is this is a player league. With a new coach I still think their peak is the conference finals….they cant beat the cavs, PERIOD, and even if somehow they were to advance to the finals they cant beat the top three teams in the west in a 7 game series.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantHard to fire a guy that made it to the conference finals. The two teams they beat the best player on the floor was on the other team. Paul George and Dwayne Wade.
I would love to see Jeff Van Gundy on the Raptors sideline.

kingofbumsParticipantI would say that kyle was the best player on the floor for the last 3 games and the reason why they are moving on to the next round.

TheGuyParticipantI think the Warriors showed that it can be the right choice to move on from a coach that has been rather successful, if you don’t believe he’s the coach to get you over the hump. Now that theory is only as strong if there’s another coach available you believe in can propel your team further, which for Toronto is into being a legit title contender. I’m not sure with Lowry and Derozan as your leaders your team will be a title contedner, but if the management in Toronto believes so and thinks they’re an upgrade at coach away from being a title contender than I would understand and respect that.
I would be in favor of Toronto moving off Casey if they think their is someone out there who can improve the team……..Frank Vogel? My two cents, but I would move off Casey to bring in Vogel but I’m sure there are plenty other teams interested.

Hype MachineI’d look for a coach and some roster improvements that can get them up to around 60 wins and the #1 seed for next season. That Atlantic Division is still going to result in a lot of easy wins and the current players should still have some improvement in them. I think Toronto would be an attractive play for Free Agents and veterans chasing a deep playoff run, and they have a lottery pick they can trade.
It seems futile given how much better the Cavs are…but a #1 seed and Conference Final is a successful season nonetheless

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantWith the Raptors improvement and playoff run, you would have one hell of a shit storm if you fired Casey. This is the best Toronto has played so I am not sure what people expect from a coach.

kingofbumsParticipantThis is definitely not the best Toronto has played. It’s the furthest they’ve made…but far from the best they have played. If they played to the heights of what they reached in the regular season they wouldn’t have needed 7 to take out the pacers and a whiteside less heat.

HitsterParticipantStrange a team that has never had much success is so negative on the coach who has just taken them to their first ever Conference Finals.
I think the Toronto fans need to take a reality check and enjoy the Conference Finals.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf the raptors were to get rid of casey last season would have been the time to do it, after their embarrassing playoff showing. It’s going to be hard to fire him now. Even though I agree that he’s not a great coach, he got this team to 56 wins and the conference finals, which easily exceeded most expectations for this team at the beginning of the season.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantSo off course the fans want him fired and replaced by another coach, let me guess, this one will be another Kerr like savant who will take them to the promised land
Good coaches are hard to find, but a loyal fan or front office is nearly impossible to find…
