This is a pretty good overview of the top transfers that will be eligible to play this season in college. I just copy & pasted this…I also added a few in myself. Feel free to add to the list if you think of any other transfers.

BAYLOR
F/C Ekpe Udoh, from Michigan
The buzz: Udoh led the Big Ten with 2.91 blocks per game his final season with the Wolverines. He also averaged 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 2007-08.

CHARLOTTE
F Shamari Spears, from Boston College
The buzz: This 6-foot-7 forward averaged 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while making 27 starts in 2007-08. He transferred to Charlotte to get closer to his hometown of Salisbury, N.C.

DRAKE
G Ryan Wedel, from Arkansas State
The buzz: Wedel earned third-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2007-08 and led the league with 90 3-point baskets while also averaging 15.1 points. His proficiency from the perimeter should make him a nice fit at Drake, which ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2008-09 with 8.1 3-pointers per game.

FLORIDA
F Vernon Macklin, from Georgetown
The buzz: The No. 37 high school prospect in the nation in the 2006 signing class, Macklin averaged about 12 minutes per game each of his two seasons at Georgetown. He will be welcomed with open arms at Florida, which has a severe lack of frontcourt depth.

INDIANA
G Jeremiah Rivers, from Georgetown
The buzz: The son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers earned a reputation as an outstanding defender while averaging 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.6 minutes his final season at Georgetown.

KANSAS STATE
F Curtis Kelly, from Connecticut
The buzz: This former five-star prospect arrived at Connecticut as the No. 10 prospect in the 2006 recruiting class. Kelly averaged 2.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game during his two years at Connecticut. Kelly was arrested last month on two outstanding warrants stemming from unpaid traffic violations.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
G Larry Davis, from Seton Hall
The buzz: Davis was the No. 92 prospect in the 2006 signing class. Davis made 13 starts for Seton Hall in 2007-08 and averaged 5.8 points and 3.4 rebounds.

MASSACHUSETTS
F/C Hashim Bailey, from Memphis
F/C Sean Carter, from Oregon State
G Doug Wiggins, from Connecticut
The buzz: Wiggins averaged 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 18.9 minutes for Connecticut in 2007-08. Carter made nine starts for Oregon State in 2007-08 and averaged 3.3 points and 2.8 rebounds. Bailey played a total of 14 games his two seasons at Memphis.

MIAMI
G Malcolm Grant, from Villanova
The buzz: Grant shot 46.6 percent from 3-point range and averaged 5.6 points, 1.4 assists and 12.7 minutes at Villanova in 2007-08. He should step right into a leadership role for a Miami team that must replace starting guards Jack McClinton and Lance Hurdle.

MISSOURI STATE
G Adam Leonard, from Eastern Kentucky
C Caleb Patterson, from Colorado
The buzz: Leonard averaged 11.9 points in 2006-07, then averaged 12.5 points and had a team-high 91 assists in 2007-08. Patterson averaged just 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds his lone season at Colorado, but his 6-foot-11 frame makes him an interesting prospect.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS
G Xavier Silas, from Colorado
The buzz: Silas, the son of former NBA player James Silas, started at Colorado for two seasons and averaged 12.0 points in 2007-08 before getting dismissed from the team late in the season. This transfer reunites him with Northern Illinois coach Ricardo Patton, the former coach at Colorado.

NOTRE DAME
G Ben Hansbrough, from Mississippi State
G/F Scott Martin, from Purdue
The buzz: Ben is Tyler’s little brother. Hansbrough played two years at Mississippi State before deciding to transfer. He is a solid shooter but extremely streaky. He eases the loss of Kyle McAlarney. Martin had a solid freshman season at Purdue but decided to transfer for reasons unknown. The versatile forward will certainly cause matchup problems and should be effective playing alongside Luke Harangody. Martin averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds his freshman year.

OHIO UNIVERSITY
F Armon Bassett, from Indiana
The buzz: Bassett led the Big Ten in 3-point percentage (.454) and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2007-08, but he was kicked off the team after the season. Bassett initially transferred to UAB, but he left that school for personal reasons and ended up at Ohio.

RADFORD
F Lazar Trifunovic, from Binghamton
The buzz: This 6-8 forward from Belgrade started at Binghamton for two years. He earned third-team All-America East honors in 2007-08 while leading Binghamton in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (7.0). This move reunites him with Radford assistant Ali Ton, who worked on Binghamton’s staff from 2004-06.

RUTGERS
F Jonathan Mitchell, from Florida
The buzz: Mitchell is a former New York Mr. Basketball who was the No. 94 prospect in the 2006 recruiting class. He averaged 11.4 minutes as a sophomore at Florida and is expected to make a major impact at Rutgers.

SAN DIEGO STATE
C Brian Carlwell, from Illinois
G Tyrone Shelley, from Pepperdine
The buzz: Shelley ranked fourth in the West Coast Conference with 15.1 points per game in 2007-08. He also tied for sixth in steals (1.65) and ranked 10th in rebounds (5.8). Carlwell was the No. 77 prospect in the 2006 recruiting class, but he didn’t play much in his two seasons at Illinois. A knee injury knocked Carlwell out for most of the 2007-08 season.

SETON HALL
G Keon Lawrence, from Missouri
F Herb Pope, from New Mexico State
The buzz: Lawrence averaged 11.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Missouri in 2007-08. Pope, the No. 31 player in the 2007 signing class, averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds for New Mexico State in 2007-08.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
G Tony Freeman, from Iowa
The buzz: Freeman led Iowa with 13.8 points per game and ranked seventh in the Big Ten with 3.7 assists per game in 2007-08. The 6-1 guard said he transferred because he felt unwanted at Iowa.

SYRACUSE
F Wesley Johnson, from Iowa State
The buzz: Johnson averaged 12.4 points and 4.0 rebounds his final season at Iowa State despite battling an ankle injury. He averaged 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds as a freshman and led the Big 12 with 3.2 offensive rebounds per game.

TEXAS
G Jai Lucas from Florida
The buzz: Lucas is a very small yet smart player. He is an excellent long range shooter. He shot 44% from 3point land as a Freshman at Florida. He gives Texas another ball handler that is capable of running the offense and scoring points effectively.

UAB
F Elijah Millsap, from Louisiana-Lafayette
The buzz: Millsap, the younger brother of Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap, averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals as a sophomore at ULL. He was the Sun Belt Conference freshman of the year in 2006-07.

UNC WILMINGTON
F John Fields, from East Carolina
The buzz: Fields ranked second in scoring at 9.6 points per game for ECU in 2007-08. We could have included former ECU teammate Gabe Blair’s transfer to Wichita State instead since Blair ranked among the top four rebounders in Conference USA each of his two seasons with the Pirates, but Fields’ transfer is more intriguing because of UNC Wilmington’s rivalry with East Carolina.

UNLV
G Derrick Jasper, from Kentucky
The buzz: Jasper made 27 starts as a freshman and averaged 2.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 61.3 percent overall and 45.7 percent from 3-point range. Jasper wanted to play closer to his hometown of Paso Robles, Calif.

USC
F Alex Stepheson, from North Carolina
The buzz: This 6-9 forward was the No. 41 prospect in the 2006 recruiting class. Stepheson averaged 4.3 points and 4.5 rebounds as a sophomore at North Carolina. The transfer represents a homecoming for Stepheson, who went to high school at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles.

UTEP
G Christian Polk, from Arizona State
The buzz: Polk averaged 12.0 points for Arizona State as a freshman, but he scored just 3.5 points per game and didn’t play nearly as often his sophomore season after Sun Devils coach Herb Sendek’s arrival in Tempe.

VILLANOVA
F Taylor King, from Duke
The buzz: The No. 37 prospect in the 2007 recruiting class, King averaged 5.5 points in his lone season at Duke. King set a Duke freshman record by sinking six 3-pointers in an early season win over Eastern Kentucky, but his playing time diminished as the season progressed.

XAVIER
G Jordan Crawford, from Indiana
The buzz: This 6-4 guard made eight starts and averaged 9.7 points in his lone season at Indiana. He often came up huge in big games, as he scored 20 points against Kentucky and 18 in a double-overtime victory over Illinois.

I think the list looks great. One more transfer that could be the biggest of all IF RULED ELIGIBLE would be Elliot Williams who went from Duke to Memphis. He could be the best impact player of the bunch if and only if the NCAA lets him play.

Yeah I was going to say Elliot as well. I think Jai Lucas and Wesley Johnson will be the 2 best of those named above though.

Curtis Kelly will have a big impact with Kstate…an area of weakness (the frontcourt) has been addressed with the signing of Judge and Kelly, which now is a strength.

I wanna see if Wesley Johnson has improved, everyone’s hyping him. He wasnt all that at Iowa State, but I cant wait to see how good he’ll be

Herb Pope could be a 1st round pick if he stayed out of trouble. Him, Jeremy Hazell, and Eugene Harvey give them alot of talent offensively. Problem is, none of them play D so they will have to continue to TRY to outscore the other team. Keon Lawrence is a good player who does actually defend, and will be a solid starter.

Jai Lucas is a good player to me. He is small as hell, but he can really shoot and create for himself. He also is a pesky defender who never backs down (even though thats not always enough). I think he makes Texas stronger because if you watched them play, EVERY team played off the PG’s and let them shoot.

Kansas will have a nice back up center with transfer Jeff Whithey from Arizona. Give them another 6’11-7 footer if aldrich gets in foul problems.

Completely agree with you on Lucas. I think he will really help us a lot this year. Balbay is an awful shooter and he never kept the defense honest.
