Last week, I created a post that focused on the dubious and ridiculous comparisons that this site has ever made… Some of them you guys agree, some of them are quite questionable which is cool with me… This week I will feature the positive side of the comparisons that they made…

Solid…when it comes to my mind, I think of it as good but not great… OK but not excellent… mediocre but not awesome… A solid player is Jason Richardson not Michael Jordan… Kyle Orton not John Elway… I said top 10 Solid comparisons because all the comparisons can never be perfect… In one way or the other, the prospect might turn out to be a better ball player than the player whom he got compared to…or worst, the prospect never turned into the player he got compared to, Kwame Brown anyone?LOL But there are players who lived up to comparisons that the site made… Here are my top 10 who made it there…

10. Shane Battier – NBA Comparison: Bobby Jones
My first initial thought on Battier was that he could be the next Reggie. He was a terrific shooter/scorer with the Memphis Grizzlies. But as the seasons went by, I realized that he was compared to the energetic Bobby Jones…great defender, team player, so ever humble… That’s Bobby Jones to me and to a lot of Nuggets and Sixers fans… Shane is somewhat like that, too. Kobe was asked who was the toughest defender he had to go through and without second thoughts he mentioned Shane Battier.

9. Brandon Roy – NBA Comparison: Jalen Rose
Here me out a little bit… This is a good comparison in terms of their capability. Jalen Rose was a good scorer on any given day who was not afraid to take big shots… The only thing here is that Roy made a huge impact in his rookie year and thus making him a better player than Jalen. But nevertheless, when you look at their game, Roy is a smaller version of Jalen Rose, only much smarter and better-skilled, and only at 25, he could very well leave this comparison behind.

8. Carmelo Anthony – NBA Comparison: Glenn Robinson/Antoine Walker
I like this comparison because when you look at Melo’s game, his athleticism is not out of this world but he has such a terrific skills in terms of scoring. He will score on you in many ways which reminds me a lot of Glenn Robinson. Big Dog was a skilled scoring machine and is not afraid to bang up inside with the big boys. Walker was also a scorer who is versatile enough to play the 3 and 4 positions. I believe that no other player can be compared to Melo than Big Dog and ‘Toine in one.

7. Ben Gordon – NBA Comparison: Joe Dumars
Same height, same skills…undersized guards but are terrific scorers… Both players are 6’3 and both can file up scoring loads in an instant… Their game is mirrored one way or the other.

6. David West – NBA Comparison: Derrick Coleman
I love this comparison… Both men have the same physical attribute and both men have sick mid-range jumpers… The only thing that is different from them is that Derrick Coleman made early impact in his career but went downslide quickly after that… whereas West’s career started slowly and suddenly soared up putting up 18 and 10 night in and night out.

5. Jason Richardson – NBA Comparison: Vince Carter
This one is close because in terms of hops and the ability to shoot 3’s… They are so similar… Both are highlight reels waiting to happen every night and both electrify the crowd because of their dunks and plays. Both are Slam Dunk champs and have put up solid numbers in their careers. Though VC is a couple of notch better than J-Rich, still their game is solidly similar.

4. Al Horford – NBA Comparison: Horace Grant/Carlos Boozer
I don’t agree with the Boozer comparison but however I like the Horace Grant because both are blue-collar workers inside the paint. At 6’10 245 lbs, Horford reminds me of Horace Grant’s tenacity on the court…Both are solid rebounders and have solid post game.

3. Anthony Randolph – NBA Comparison: Lamar Odom/Tayshaun Prince
Randolph is left-handed and long just like Odom and Prince. He can score off the dribble and is a terrific shot-blocker… He just needs to add a little weight to be a better and more dangerous player in the upcoming season.

2. Andrea Bargnani – NBA Comparison: Dirk Nowitzki
The first step towards building an international team by Brian Colangelo was taking Andrea Bargnani as the 1st overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.
No doubt, Andrea is compared to the greatest German forward to have ever played the game (sorry, Detlef). Their game is so similar. Both can run the floor well, both are big 7-footers, both can hit the three consistently and both can cathc and shoot it with ease but the thing was Dirk started out slow and slowly made an impact for the Mavs. Andrea came in and contributed right away to the talented Raptors team with Bosh. Andrea has a chance to be better than his comparison but who knows, I maybe wrong.

1. Kwame Brown – NBA Comparison: Kevin Garnett
JUST KIDDING!

My number 1 solid comparison is:
Chris Paul – NBA Comparison: Isiah Thomas
Both are EXCELLENT point guards who makes EXCELLENT decisions. Both have the will to win and both are warriors in their generation… Both are very quick off the dribble and they are also great dribblers, I might add. Both can shoot the ball well, both are unselfish and both are ankle-breakers…whew! But the thing that made Chris Paul so awesome is that he never result into dirty tactics in order to win. He wants to win in the right, clean way and that what makes Isiah somewhat opposite. Isiah condones the dirty strategy in which guys like Laimbeer, Rodman, used to do like physically holding down players, and committing hard and dangerous fouls that could harm the opposing players. But nevertheless, both have hearts of champions and both are great competitors who, despite their lack of height, are unstoppable on the court.

NOTE: I love the Stephen Curry comparison to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. I thought that was cool but since Curry hasn’t played an NBA minute yet, I decided to hold it down. Abdul Rauf, aka, Chris Jackson was a terrific PG who is also a scorer/shooter with the Nuggets and the Kings. He even had a career high 51 pts. I thought that Abdul-Rauf would have been much better had he not allowed his religious belief hinder his basketball career. But nevertheless, watching Stephen Curry in college really reminded me of Mahmoud but Steph has a chance to be a better player than him. I would have love for him to go to NYK but unfortunately, they got beaten by the Warriors.

Anyone care to comment at all, I am open for it…

You’re dead wrong thinking that Roy/Rose, West/Coleman, Bargnani/Nowitzki, Randolph/Odom are spot on…..Cmon guy, the Bargnani/Nowitzki comparison is only thrown out there b/c they are both 7 foot Euro’s who can shoot, comparison ends there. Randolph-Odom??? Another weak comparison purely based on the fact they are 6’10” and left-handed… that is where the comparison ends.

Duece Bargnani and Dirk…….I think are the most i dentical players 7 foot shooting 3’s can actually drive in to the lane with out fumbling the ball……and are pretty consistent at what they do thats a pin point comaprsion

I Don’t agree with the randolph comparision………just beacuse there all left hand doesn’t mean they are all the same. Im pretty sure you wouldn’t compare derek fisher with chris bosh just because there left handed

I mean really once players get to the league, they carve out there own niche as an individual player with a specified role and go to moves, it’s difficult to look back in hindsight and agree with a comparison seeing as players all make their own unique impact on a ball club and in the league.

Dirk is ALOT more aggressive and a better rebounder than Bargnani. He also is a better scorer, while Bargnani is a pure perimeter player. They both are 7 feet and play like guards, but in terms of their skill set they are different. Dirk is also is a better defender, which shows more of how bad a defender Bargnani really is than Dirk being a good defender.

I like the comparisons and I think the Odom/ Prince to Randolph was a compp comparison meaning it took both players to legitly compare to Randolph witch is not bad because Randolph can handle and has a outside and inside game and have length on defense. My comparison would be KG though. Randolph and KG skills are too close. KG games has change since he was young but he was very big on defense early on so Randolph will have to bring that. Also Randolph midrange game may be better than KG’s at the same age.

Fizer21 was referring to the Bobby Jones that was on the Sixers ’83 championship team, also the first 6th Man of the Year award winner…not the Bobby Jones that the Sixers traded 2 2nd round draft picks and cash to watch him turn into a bust haha.

im not sure most people understand what comparision means..people are compared to other players first based off the height of both at the same position. thats why after jordan and athletic 6’6 guy that could score was compared to him. does it mean they are exactly alike no but if they play the same position and are the same height and do some of the same things then yes thats what makes them comparable
