I’m not going to list 10 PG’s but it’s pretty awesome how there are 7 PG’s in the NBA right now that arguably elite, and are at the very least great. Rose, Paul, Rondo, Parker, Westbrook, Nash, and Williams. Not to mention guys like Wall, Irving, Curry, Holiday and Lawson showing they have very bright futures.

Going into next season, I don’t think Rose and Rubio should be in the top ten considering their injuries. We all know Rose won’t be available to start the season and there’s probably a chance Rubio won’t be either.

The only thing going in Rubio’s favor is he doesn’t really rely on his athleticism. His comeback won’t be as tough because he’ll basically be the same player.

Rose is going to be rusty as hell when he gets back. Not only will he be getting in shape, he’ll be learning to play differently as a player.

There are so many different types of point guards these days, it’s impossible to rank them. I will say, however, I became a big fan of Rondo after watching him during these playoffs.

Going into NEXT season:

1. Chris Paul – He’ll have an entire training camp with his new team. With Derrick Rose’s injury, this is unquestionable.

2. Tony Parker – Based on the regular season and post season, he has to be here. And the team is now in his hands. He’s healthy and in his prime.

3. Russell Westbrook – Going into next season, why shouldn’t he be here? He has work to do, but he’s gaining experience playing in the NBA Finals. He’ll also be on the olympic team. He’s going to come back next season as a better player.

4. Deron Williams – This is a guy who could move up because we all know how great he is. He’s the second most complete point guard in the NBA. He should be playing on a much better team next season, so we’ll all see how valuable he is again. I do think he’s been humbled by his time with the Nets.

5. Rajon Rondo – He’s an amazing all-around player that makes his teammates better, but the man still can’t consistently shoot the ball. He just plays though.

6. Steve Nash – He’s getting up there in age and can’t really defend, but he’s still 50, 40, 90 and 10 assists…. Plus he makes his teammates so much better still.

7. Kyrie Irving – This may shock some people, but I think he’s primed to have a breakout season and put the Cavs in position to make the playoffs. He’s a big game player who just understands how to play basketball. Imagine how good he’ll be with a full training camp under his belt. Remember, this guy barely even played in college.

8. Ty Lawson – Not many people talk about him, but he’s got game and is one of the most athletic players at his position.

9. John Wall – He had a poor season, but I thought he showed some nice things at the end like changing up his speed. I think too much summer ball and no training camp really hurt him. Look for him to be much improved next season. He could move up.

10. Kyle Lowry – He had a great season. He should get better next year regardless of where he ends up.

Lawson’s a great PG but I think he’s really lucky that he fell into the right system.  George Karl has always liked pushing the tempo and making use of the secondary break ala Roy Williams.  Might be a UNC thing I guess.  One thing I admire is that he’s definitely one of the best PGs in the league at finishing around the basket.  A lot of upperbody control and deceiving hang time in that tiny body of his lol.

And if you leave Westbrook off your list, take Rose off your list as well, same exact players.

 ^ Same player, differen players around them. Westbrook has Durant to differ too and since he doesn’t give him the ball enough that makes him bad. Rose doesn’t really have others to base to so his assertiveness is acceptable.

The Chris Paul vs Derrick Rose when both are healthy debate is a very very interesting one. For me, I love what Paul brings to the table, great passer, gets everyone involved, tough, can get into the paint, creates his own shot, hits the mid range jumper consistently, can take over at the end of the game if needed, and a good defender as well. Derrick Rose can do all of those, but I think Paul is a slightly better passer, and at this point in his career, I think Paul is a bit more mature, and a better leader. Rose will become a better leader as he matures, but if I’m talking right now, I’d take Chris Paul. That’s no slight on D Rose either, he’s awesome, and an MVP winner.

You guys are forgetting the #1 attribute a great point guard had to have and that’s leadership. No body in the NBA is a better leader than Chris Paul, Rondo is a horrible leader in order for him to be the best point guard in the league he will have to mature and become a better leader

I am going to leave Rose off of the list because of his injury, but when healthy I would put him in the top 2 or 3.  Also taking Rubio off due to injury.  He might have made the top 10 if healthy.

1. Rondo – He makes his teammates better, rebounds, defends and competes.  He’s not a very good shooter, but his shot is making improvements.  Even without a consistent jumper, he’s been a pretty good scorer.  He’s a unique finisher and makes some unbelievable plays.  He gets triple-doubles at least once in every series it seems.  After this postseason, it is hard to say any point guard is "better."

2. Chris Paul – He is probably the most complete point guard.  He can take over games if need be, and sets up his guys like Griffin and Jordan with easy buckets.  When healthy, he may be the best, but he seems to always be hurt. 

3. Deron Williams – He is the forgotten man in the group.  When with Utah, there were arguments that he was the best point guard in the game.  In New Jersey, he lost the ability to win.  Some team will be finding out how great D-Will really is once they sign him this summer.  He might be the strongest point guard in the league.

4. Tony Parker – I give Parker a slight edge over Westbrook for one reason: shot selection.  They both are score-first point guards, but I think TP takes more makeable and smarter shots.  Parker has arguably the best floater in the NBA, and that is an extremely difficult shot.  His mid-range game is near automatic, and even with his age, he is still one of the fastest baseline-to-baseline players with the ball in the game. 

5. Russell Westbrook – Westbrook is very good.  His athleticism gives him an advantage over most guys.  He has a motor and energy level that is off the charts.  He doesn’t stop playing.  He is extremely confident.  We have to remember that he is still learning to play the point.  In college, he was a shooting guard.  He is improving his point guard skills every game.  I see him developing to be maybe the best in the coming years.  His pull-up jumper might be the best in the league off of the break.  Let’s see what he does the rest of this series!

6. Steve Nash – Nash’s ability to play at such a high level at such a high age is crazy.  The dude can still play.  Not only is he one of the best passers in the game, he is one of the best shooters, too.  The only knock on Nash is his defense, but he makes his teammates so much better that he is hard to beat.  Hopefully he will not be back in Phoenix next year and will have a chance to compete.

7. Ty Lawson – His playoff series against the Lakers was not a joke.  He is a great player.  His quickness and shooting ability make him one of the most underrated players in the NBA.

8. John Wall – This may be biased, as John is from my hometown, but I think he’s being underrated.  The Wizards’ roster is pathetic.  John is a blur in transition and as good an athlete as any point guard.  He can finish at the basket and create plays for his teammates.  His defense is solid as well.  John needs to improve his jump shot to reach elite level.

9. Stephon Curry – If he had not missed a lot of this past season, things might be different for him.  He is clearly a great shooter, and it seems like his point guard skills are good too.  Look for him to have a breakout year next season.

10. Kyrie Irving – Kyrie had one of the best rookie seasons for a point guard…ever.  He will continue to improve, and already has a solid all-around game.  He has the talent (Rookie of the Year), work ethic, and personality (He is Uncle Drew from the Pepsi commercial) to turn Cleveland around.  He is a winner.  He will put the Cavs into playoff contention next season.

Honorable Mention: Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, Goran Dragic (was great as starter), Jrue Holiday, Brandon Jennings
