I don’t see anything special about this guy…. never watched him play though smh. But honestly I’ve see all his youtube videos and read a whole lot about him, I don’t see how he is a better prospect than Allan Crabbe.

I have him going to OKC in the first because I hear the buzz about him. Some fans wouldn’t even mind picking him mid first as I’ve seen Boston, Bulls, and others, saying they would draft this guy.

What is it about this guy that has people raving?, he doesn’t even play with intensity (so i read).

He’s a 3 and D player. He’s got a pretty outside J with good elevation, can come off screens and shoot as well, knows how to move and execute in the half court, has a near 7 ft wingspan and is very quick laterally (tested out 2nd best agility time in the draft).

Maybe I’m out of my element here in this question but, how can he be overrated when he’s projected to go in the 20’s of a so called “weak draft”. In drafts like these, meaning weak drafts, players who are long and athletic and having good potential in some sort of specialty skill are commodities that scouts and regular guys like us like to talk about. That’s all I think. He looks the part and his shot looks good and he has the length to gaurd multiple positions if he is taught well. And Crabbe really only does one thing well, shoot the ball whenever he touches it. He’s not a great athlete or even a descent defender. That’s why Snell gets hype and Crabbe is what he is.

That describes him perfectly.. but thats it though. He is gunna shoot open shots and play good D. Will he ever be great at either, more or less both? Idk.. But he most likely will never contribute much more than that.

I think some people consider him overrated just because he has steadily climbed up most peoples mocks. Their really isnt a whole lot of separation between shooting guards that are being considered in the 20-40 range, so it is hard to really say a guy in that range is over or under rated. Their is about 5 guys who have been flip flopping so we kinda just have to wait and see.

I am surprised to see him projected so high in the 1st round in the most recent mocks. But if you’re in of need a wing he’s a good bet.

He was acknowledged as a quality prospect since High School. Although his decision to choose UNM was unexpected, he ended up facing decent competition in the Mountain West while often showing to be the best player on the court.

I agree with you lockdownD. I consider him a second rounder. He’s a great shooter and has the tools to be a pretty good defender, but he doesn’t bring much else to the table. 12.5 PPG, 2.6 RPG, and 2.9 APG are pretty underwhelming numbers, especially the rebounds. You would expect a guy that’s 6’7 to get more than 2.6 RPG. 3 and D guys are valuable so I’d understand if he went in the first round, but I don’t think he’s necessarily a first round talent. Could make it in the league if he finds the right team.

A lot of what he does doesn’t show up in a mix tape.

In 3 games vs. fellow 1st rounder, and NBA caliber athlete Jamal Franklin Snell held him to 11.3 ppg on 24% shooting. His defense is very good and has the capablity of getting hot from downtown. San Antonio is proving there is certainly a spot in the league for players like that.

When UNLV played New Mexico, Alex Kirk and Kendall Williams stood out much more than Tony Snell. That’s not completely concerning since Kirk and Williams are on the NBA radar, but it’s still concerning. I like to be able to say “That’s an NBA player,” when I watch somebody.

He may be as good as Terrance Ross. The emphasis is on “may”, I have only seen clips and combine coverage but the one thing I noticed about Snell is he has a really good handle. He has shooting guard handles and looks like he has no body fat. He probably doesn’t have the intensity to slash like Ross but they are similar to me.

The rebounds look bad but scouts are raving about the 3 assists. It doesn’t sound like a lot but it is very respectable especially for a guy whose main role will be taking swing threes.

Ross doesn’t have his handles, Snell isn’t the athlete Ross is either.

I watched the Mountain West Conference championship game between UNLV and New Mexico and Tony Snell was by far the best player on the court, especially in the final 10 minutes of the game… He took over by using off ball screens and getting open for 3’s, playing good defense, and showed off his sick handles in a few isolation’s…
He’s got NBA size and good range on his jumper. To add to that hes got a 7 foot wingspan and is really quick laterally which makes him an effective defender. His ball handling is not really a huge weakness for him and he’s also not a selfish player at all.
Neither overrated or underrated imo, he’s a first rounder in this draft and could be picked high if a team has a specific need and see’s him fitting in the system.

He is a first round talent. He can defend, handle the ball and has good size for either a sg or sf. He is projected to go mid to late first round. So I don’t understand how he is overrated.
