Reptilian MonkParticipantTony Snell of the Bulls for Michael Carter Williams of the Bucks is being reported as a very close to done deal by Espn. Former rookie of the year MCW for Snell is a strange one. Bucks get another wing, have Delly has there point but really have Giannis run the point as the point forward. Bulls get a backup point to Rondo but they also have young points guards in Jerian Grant, Dinwiddli, and Isiah Cannaan. Thougts on this ?

he_gets_bucketsParticipantDoesn’t really make a whole lot of sense for the Bulls. Trade one of your only plus shooters for another point guard who can’t shoot? Hope this is just smoke to drive up trade value

ChewyParticipantHe isn’t a defender. He simply isn’t an NBA player. If I can get a young back up PG (shooter or not), I’m pulling that deal every day. Rondo can’t shoot, so Hoiberg will need to develop an offense that fits a non shooting PG anyway. MCW can give solid back up minutes.

RUDEBOY_Participantthe bulls were looking for a backup and werent happy with the guys they had..so getting mcw for a guy they say failed to prove himself despite numerous opportunities during his 3 yrs with the team was a good move.he ranked 12th in espn’s defensive rating for pgs…

BleedGreen808ParticipantStrange that the Bulls would go after another poor shooter in MCW.

Robb_CParticipantI think Tony Snell lacks the confidence right now to ever be an effective contributor in the league, he’s a pretty shy person from what Ive noticed when I was around him.. which could translate on the court.. I think that’s a huge understated psychological aspect of player development and scouting.. Player Development on the psychological level is underrated, I believe Phil Jackson built those 6 rings off this and Popovich as well these guys both knew not every player responds to the same approach.

wonzi_bellsParticipantProbably a deal influenced by Carter-Williams’ upcoming free agency on the Bucks part. It’s really the only reason to trade MCW for someone as subpar as Snell, who’s a theorical three-and-D player still up to this point. Also, they’re going to have to be really conscious about staggering minutes now with Delly and Antetokounmpo, since you don’t really want to have old Jason Terry out there running the team for long periods of time.
God help Hoiberg’s spacing though.

HitsterParticipantThe Bulls may not have a lot of shooters but they do have proven scorers and a PG of Rondo’s capability should create openings for his team mates.
MCW after one good rookie year seems to have gone backwards perhaps a repeat case of Johnny Flynn but being around Rondo, Butler and D-Wade might be good for MCW. My one concern is that if Jason Kidd couldn’t improve MCW as a PG can anyone?

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI understand the rationale for wanting to move on from snell but acquiring another non-shooting backcourt rotation player makes absolutely zero sense for Chicago. It’s almost like they seem hell-bent on proving you don’t need spacing to win in today’s NBA.
As for Milwaukee, I don’t think it’s a bad move. Maybe snell can soak up some of the mins that Middleton would have played. I think Chicago was a bad situation for Snell. I’m not ready to completely write him off yet. Maybe a change of scenery will help him rebuild some confidence.

usfballerParticipantbut as a Bulls fan, I’m just glad I won’t have to see Tony’s ugly mug and be reminded every game that we could’ve had Mason Plumlee. Good Ridence. To get someone back who can actually play in the NBA is just a nice bonus.

ditotayParticipantI don’t understand the signing of Fred Hoiberg in the first place. Don’t get me wrong I like his style of playing, but the fact that the GarPax tandem is like ‘sabotaging’ him with players that don’t play within his system is mind blowing.

HitsterParticipantFred Hoiberg played for the Bulls so probably knew Paxson and Forman and he was likely their personal choice to be the Head Coach, so I’d agree that it would seem logical they recruit the players that fit Hoiberg’s style of play or they are all on the same page as regards recruitment.
The Bulls have had a number of players leave via FA or who could move next summer and combined with the D-Rose trade have had a big playing turnover. They have signed some big names on shortish deals so may well be taking stock of options and trying to stay relevant at the same time whilst they figure out long term plans about rebuilding around Butler.
The team is a big market and the fans want success plus after moving D-Rose and losing Gasol and Noah, I expect they felt they needed some big names on the roster. Wade and Rondo are fairly low risk signings and if they keep the team in the play offs, it keeps the fans and Butler happy plus the team continues to get play off revenue and Wade and co will help merch sales too.0 - AuthorPosts
