cycloParticipant6-2 195 PG Florida State
2008-2009
All ACC First Team.
ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
ACC leading scorer 21.5 ppg.
ACC tournament leading scorer 26.7 ppg.
Fastest player at the 2009 NBA combine (3.03).
Strongest PG in the 2009 NBA Draft (15 reps).People forget Toney was just a rookie last year, but he shot well for the Knicks in limited minutes (45.8% fg. 80.9% ft. 38.9% 3fg.). Solid 2:1 A/T ratio.
Toney is looking awesome in the summer league. As a player, he reminds me of Joe Dumars. Same body. Same game. Same form on his shot. Same athleticism. Deceptively quick. Nothing flashy like Dumars. Gets the job done.
The Knicks fans who say “We need a PG” and “Douglas is a backup PG at best” are MORONS when it comes to the game of basketball. They remind me of the Celtics fans back in the 90s who thought a fella by the name of Chauncey Billups would never amount to anything.
Toney Douglas is the Knicks’ starting PG, folks, and will become one of the best starting PGs in the league.

MagikKnickParticipantI like Toney ALOT too, but I think your taking a bit too much from his college resume & a summer league game. I think he’ll be a really good backup PG, maybe one day eventually a legit starter. but for now hes not starting over Felton. Good defensive PG, but really lacks the playmaking skills you’d want in your starting point guard.

TyroberParticipantI agree with MagikKnick. Douglas is a solid player. He might be a starter down the road but Felton is the starter on day 1

NYK2010ParticipantCan be a perfect combo guard for them off the bench, he can play D and shoot.
D’antoni has to play him consistent minutes too.
Thankfully no Duhon, Sergio, Nate taking bench minutes from him.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/12/2010 - 4:16am #352403

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI’m sure the Knicks just threw $8 million per at Raymond Felton because they needed a back up to the great Toney Douglas.
In the minds of Knick fans, I’m sure Toney Douglas will be Nate Robinson 2.0.

JNixonParticipantCyclo is a stat buff, I guarantee you he didn’t watch the game yesterday.

sc0rebuckets11Participantif felton can push it like he did in his UNC days.
i think he got a little bigger, but i would guess he still has that speed.
Douglas is good, but he’s still more of a scoring type.

stanford hoopsIf you watch the game you would see that he’s more of a undersized two guard and backup pg. He can have a Nate Robinson or Eddie house role off then bench but. Wouldn’t make him my starting pg on any team

whyyouhatingParticipantI have liked tony since his college days but Felton is the starter a tuff minded guard that can pass and run a team.
I think he will be better in an uptempo system than he was with the Bobcats half court system.
If you watched that summer league game you see Lawson was the best pg on the floor.
Tony is a nice back up right now, maybe one day a starter but never one of the best in the league.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/12/2010 - 6:57am #352487
McWinningParticipantcouple things, first of all hes 24 already hes one month yopunger than Rondo, older than a lot of young point guards.
Second summer league is a very guard dominate league, and the Rockets had some horrible defender on him.
third hes not even a point guard.
fourth theres been too many cases of people who suck torching the summer league for me.
fifth its been one game
hes a decent backup to me thats it.

HotSnotParticipantAnyone else notice that Feltons contract is 3 years but that the third is a “team option”? That means that after the 10/11 season Felton could be traded as an expiring contract and leaves the Knicks with options going forward. This is a contract that is similar to the one Portland signed Andre Miller to last offseason.

JNixonParticipantIt’s smart to do it that way too. Very smart.

rtbtParticipantI don’t agree with StanfordHoops very often, but this time I think he nailed it. Toney Douglas is a very good player but he’s not a PG. He is exactly what StanfordHoops said, an undersized shooting guard. If he was 1 or 2 inches taller, Douglas could become an outstanding SG in the NBA.
However, since he isn’t taller, I see him as a dependable role player coming off the bench to provide needed scoring along with some nice defense.
