CodySLCParticipantIn my opinion Pau Gasol has been the mvp of the Lakers so far this season. It might help if Kobe looked to get this teammates more involved. They have one of the deepest teams in the league, so it couldn’t hurt to spread the wealth around a little more and have him take over in the 4th.

llperezi missed tonights game, but i know both kobe and pau had off nights. But pau hasnt been that mvp worthy since maybe week 2. He has been getting punked around the basket nightly. Lots of guys need to pick it up starting with both kobe and pau. But im not worried, all these losses have been razor thin games and bynum is supposed to be back within a month or less.

d-grizzlyParticipantMaybe we could give the grizzlies some credit. Conely lit the lakers up. Gay had 6 blocks, and the rest of the grizz helped pull of a win against the defending champs.
Lakers have won 3 of their last 6. Of those 6 games, kobe has shot 56 /140 – roughly 40%. Get your teammates involved.

Counting StarsParticipantI’m not nor have I ever been a Lakers fan by any means. That being said, I still can’t think of anyone I would rather have than Kobe as my go to guy in a big game. Pau has played well, but Kobe’s game goes to another level when the game is on the line. (And it tears me up inside.)

xavier328ParticipantYES it is a bad thing….Theres not many players that can stop Pau on the block…..Kobe refuse to let someone else close out games…..if your not feeling it today…throw it down to the big fella as what Bill Walton would say lol…..Pau is capable of winning some games too.

Toronto16ParticipantWhy are you guys over rating Gasol like that? MVP? Did you forget how his teams flamed out when he was the Man in Memphis? He is playing with the best player in the league and looking a better than he really is. I’m not saying he is not good, he may be the best PF in the NBA, but don’t call him MVP. This team would not be top 4 seed without Bryant.

Cardinal_FanParticipantAgree with d-grizzly, the Grizzlie are much imroved, but at thi spoint i think to much kobe is a good thing Pau is playin not great but well, i think Odom has stepped it up a notch this season an Shannon Brown is much improved an also the addition of steve blake. The supporting cast is much better in years past so Kobe can afford to tone it down a lil and save himself for the playoffs. I think at sum point Phil Jackson should address this to Kobe if he awready hasnt.

Ghost01ParticipantJust watch him on that last play….
He gives up the rock, cause, well he was going to get blocked. But before Artest even touched the ball he was behind the 3 arc clapping his hands and calling for it again.
Then as artest shoots he puts his hands up in the air immediately (when not only did he just minutes before get a bogus, 15 second late "the grizzlies must have tipped it" call on his atrocious air ball, but this shot was CLEARLY blocked) and as soon as he realizes he lost, he just throws his arms artests direction in disgust.
I have never seen worse body language out of a "leader" and a "legend" in my life. Remember Steve Kerr and John Paxson hitting GW shots to win the Finals? That will never happen with this Laker team. Its Kobe’s way or the highway. He masquerades as being a "team guy" with 13 assist performances against god aweful teams in mid november. But this guy shows his true colors too often. Just a whining baby who thinks he is alot better than he is.

llperez@urbanovereverything, again, didnt see last nights game. But kobe has passed the ball to artest for a game winner twice now this season. And kobe has trusted his teammates in playoff games with game winning shots. So dont know if your memory is very clear on kobe’s late game mometns. Heck, last season in memphis he passed to artest for a game winnig shot too. All three of those 3 pointers to win games i just mentioned, artest missed. Im not mad though, becasue artest is gonna need to make some of those in the playoffs lke he did in the playoffs this year when it counts. And for kobe thinking he is a lot better then he is, i dont want kobe to change a thing. He is playing the same style he has always played and its been working pretty good i would say. You take the good nights with the bad nights.

SteroidParticipantDwight Howard and Pau Gasol are 1 and 2 for big men in this league right now even with Pau playing out of position. He might not be one of the best players in this league, which is dominated by perimeter players, but he is definitely one of the best big men. It’s a long ass season, and teams are going to have off nights every once in a while. We all know what the Lakers are capable of, and when it comes to playoff time, even if they don’t play their A game in a series, very few teams have a chance to beat them 4 out of 7 times even when they aren’t playing their best.
Artest clearly had a bad shot, and really, I would rather die with Artest passing it back and letting Kobe take the bad shot than Artest. I’m sure anyone in their right mind would. It there was a set play ran out of bounds to get Artest open for a shot then okay, that is understandable, but there was no play ran to get Artest set up, and we all know how sporadic Artest is as a shooter, and we also know how good Kobe is at making bad or "impossible" shots.
And I’m sure Kobe’s team mates, as well as all of us, know what Kobe is capable of and they probably want him to take the last shot at the end of a game; moreover, they want Kobe to make the right decision with the ball whether it be to find them open, or to make the shot, which Kobe has done often in the playoffs last year and this season. And do you think Jordan would have tolerated them missing game winning shots? Oh I’m sure you’d see how much of a "team player" Jordan was if they did miss. It’s not like we haven’t heard cases of Jordan not being a "team player", right? It’s like superstar players can’t be right either way. If they defer at the end of a game, they are being passive, but if they take to many at the end of the game, they are ball hogs. If you don’t think Kobe has earned the respect from his team mates, players around the league, and coaches to get that right to take that shot, then I don’t know what to say…

Ghost01ParticipantMy problem is with how Kobe conducts himself. Not the fact Artest took the shot. First off, why does Kobe slow down on that play at all? 9/10 "Star" players take that ball to the rim and finish to tie the game. He tries to pull up and its not there.
He passes it up. He passed it to Ron Artest. You would think with over a year and over 100 games playing with Ron, he would know what hes doing.
Then he just has this whiny, crying look on his face and a look of total disgust. What did he tihnk was gonna happen when he passed it up? Its not always about you, Kobe. Its like he was in shock he didnt get the ball back. Just grow up. Stop pouting. This guy has killed his teammates for years and i thought he was finally past that.
Im not saying he doesnt deserve the shot. Im saying he passed the ball, because he read the play wrong. You cant just expect, you are getting the ball back no matter what.

llperezpeople were saying the exact same thing about kobe in the first round last year when he struggled early in the okc series. He then went off and scored 30+ in 11 of 12 games to finish the thunder and torch the jazz and suns and lead the lakers back tothe finals. You cant be on his jock when its going good and then say he needs to change his game when he’s struggling. You take the good with the bad. I trust kobe will make the righ tplay far more oftne then not.

llperezso what about the utah game a few days ago where he passed to artest to take the open shot and he didnt make any faces? If he did it last night, he must have not been happy with rons decision. Oh well, every great player to have played the game has given teammates looks when they dissagre with their decisions at the end of games.

llperezheat have 8 losses and unlike the lakers the heat havent proven themselves as a unit. Also no one came into this season talking about the lakers winning 72 games like they were with the heat so the heat slow start is a little more surprising.

whateverParticipantSo Pau Gasol teams flamed out? so u dont remember the time between Shaquille Oneill left and Pau Gasol arrived. Kobe playing without an all star big couldnt keep his team over a .500 winning percentage in a three year span. The lakers were 121-during that time. The lakers didnt make the playoffs once and the lost in the first round the other 2 years. Everyone is saying kobe is such a winner well, when u have an allstar center by our side it is way easier. In the same time span Gasol carried his team twice to the playoffs and also lost in the first round. So following ur logic kobes teams also falmed out. Get ur facts straight before talking smack boy!

andxxxParticipantNo real basketball analyst had the Heat being better than the Lakers this year and I’m just pointing this out because people have acted like the Heat are in trouble because of a few losses when they’re losses have been to good teams

llperez@andxxx, almost every analyst i read predicted the heat to have a better season then the lakers. They didnt all project the heat to win the finals or be better in the playoffs, but regular season the majority gave the heat the advantage over everyone. Heck, jeff van gundy said they would beat the 72 win mark and htey would never lose 2 games in a row all season.

CodySLCParticipantOf course im not trying to say having Kobe on the floor is a bad thing. He’s averaging close to 27ppg. But is needing close to 21 shots a game to do it. Pau is getting 21ppg and 4apg and shooting 10 percent better from the floor. Run the offence threw him some when Kobe’s off. He still might be the best overal player, and is the best closer in the game. But when he’s having an off night all im saying is get his bigs some more looks.

SupParticipantI can see it in Kobe’s face, he is quietly debating wheter he should drop 80 again.

IndianaBasketballParticipantKobe’s strength is also a weakness.
When the Lakers are down, he tries to do it all by himself. He’s capable of that and has done it many times, but when he’s off, he alienates his teamamtes. I can understand if his teammates didn’t have it going, but he didn’t really give them a chance.
Pau should’ve gotten A LOT more touches in the fourth quarter (he had Thabeet defending him), but Kobe was gunning. And that last shot was ridiculous… Kobe was mad at Artest, but he needs to look in the mirror. He should’ve shot the ball instead of jumping in the air and then passing.
