QHaynes20Tony Parker would be the people’s choice. He scores more and has more rings to the hardware.
I like Rajon Rondo. Although he is not mister 20 a night, That Celtic team would be really different if you took Rondo off it.
Parker over Rondo but I would take Rondo for my team
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:15pm #233694

thetruthParticipantwith you. sure rondo is probly one of the best defender guards in the league and has quickness, but the knock on him is his maturity, cant really shoot, thats why the defense plays off of him and i think anybody could start at the one and be successful. because look at what he has three all-star players. who make the game more easier for him. i dont think rondo is a bad player. i just think hes overrated. parker on the other hand is a player who is mature, always ready to play, has quickenss, can find ways to the lane, coachable, good attitude, smart young man who plays with heart everynight.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:17pm #233695

thetruthParticipanti know he has timmy, and ginobil. but lets face it the spurs need parker, the celtics on the other hand could bring in a guard like skip to my lou and still win games,
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:19pm #233696
QHaynes20lol. I didn’t pick Rondo. I said I would take Rondo for MY team. Tony Parker is the better PG.
I love the knock on Rondo and how you forgot who Parker had….
Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Stephen Jackson and Manu. So lets not act as if he struggled to find teammates. He had some good players around him too
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:21pm #233697
QHaynes20Your crazy. You make it sound as if Rondo is a terrible player….there’s a reason why they paid him 11 mil a year my man.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:28pm #233698

JNixonParticipantI’d actually take Rondo over Parker and I think he’s a better player right now. He does all the same stuff Parker does, except he’s a better and more willing passer. He’s a much better defender as well. Rondo has not been immature at all this season from what I’ve seen, and I think that one situation with him being a jerk and cocky is blown way out of proportion with him. I don’t think he’s character should be a concern at all, he doesn’t seem like a character problem in the least bit. I think Rondo is the better PG, while Parker is the better scorer.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:31pm #233700
QHaynes20LOL. I laugh at the fact you have Rose in the top 5 and Rondo’s not there.
Out of the 10 you named. only 5 of them are better ( Paul, Parker, Williams and Billups) and I would have to flip a coin with Westbrook.
U don’t understand Rondo’s value. On a aging team? Rondo is the only reason the C’s are even close to LA. The Celtics know, you move Rondo and all he gives you- your not the best in the East.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:33pm #233703

thetruthParticipantparker would make boston more better. sure he is not a good defender like rondo, but he has the experience , leadership that would help the celtics.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:34pm #233704
QHaynes20and Rondo has no experience? If I remember….Duncan was the leader of those Spurs teams.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:36pm #233706

thetruthParticipantyou think rondo really makes a diffrence like that. dont you get it his teammates make him better not him. take away kg, pierece, and allen. and lets see if rondo can play like a top 10 pg.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:39pm #233708
QHaynes20take away Duncan, S-Jax, David Robinson and Manu….Parker wouldn’t have survived.
No Point Guard would have been good without teammates.
Plus- I gotta laugh how mush dicksucking and ballriding you guys are on with Derrick Rose. He’s a average playmaker, needs time to develop.
U can say what you want. Rondo gets 5 rebs, 10 assists, 2 steals(rounded numbers) and is a shutdown defender….I know, you need teammates to do that. U need OLD teammates to do that. right?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:42pm #233709
larryb33Participantboth players provide youth to aging teams and both players have won championships where they weren’t the focal point of the opposing team’s defense. While Parker is without a doubt a better scorer, rondo plays superior defense and rebounds better. However, I have to give the edge to Parker because he shoots alot better than 50% from the foul line. Rondo’s lack of an outside game makes a limited threat offensively and while he compensates with good passing and quickness, Parker can score and pass without the foul shooting weakness.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:44pm #233710
QHaynes20I have no problem with people saying Rondo is a bad shooter…just don’t say he’s overrated.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:45pm #233711

JNixonParticipantI dont think Parker would work with the Celtics that well. For one, he’s not going to play the tough D they want. They also don’t need anymore scorers in their starting lineup, they need someone who defers for teammates and doesn’t make alot of mistakes. He also isn’t going to hurt you very much taking jumpers, so he’s basically in Rondo’s boat of being sagged off. Whether they sag off far from him or not, his jumper isn’t respected enough to add dimensions to their offense any more or less than Rondo’s.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:49pm #233712

thetruthParticipantim sure you go on espn and see the box scores or watch highlights and say man rondo is a top 10 pg. wrong !! the reason why rondo gets the rebounds is because people dont play d on him like that. they too wory about boxing out boston big man or double teaming pierce or kg. so rondo sneaks in their and grab them rebounds. and getting on rose. you know you shouldnt talk ball if you say rose is average and rondo is better lol. rose is athletic, quick, can take it to the basket, the only thing about him is his shot, leadership, vocal skills, but i betcha you if we all had to choose who we want. everybody would go with rose.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:52pm #233713

thetruthParticipantparker doesnt have to score to be effective, he can pass, and what team does he play for ? the spurs. he might not be a great defender but he will play some d, and he would not problem with fitting in.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:56pm #233714
larryb33ParticipantRight now he’s a better athlete than basketball player. He doesn’t make his teammates better to the extent that an excellent point guard should. His jumpshot is suspect at best right now and while he has potential there’s been plenty of other failed athletic guards that couldn’t shoot. And thetruth you are understating Rondo’s rebounding ability.. he’s been an excellent rebounder for a point guard since his days at kentucky.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:58pm #233715
QHaynes20lol…everyone knows Rose is a average playmaker.
Also, Noone guards Rondo? Everyone guards and double teams KG and Pierce? LOL, you must not be watching my man.
U have to redo that info. Go watch a Celtic game before talking to me. I watched 10 games so far- they are not DT KG or Pierce. Don’t even get me started on Allen.
Point is- you don’t like Rondo- COOL, lets move on…new topic
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:58pm #233716

JNixonParticipantTony Parker does have to score to be effective…I’ve never seen Parker score like 5 points or something like that and came away thinking he was the best player on the floor like I have thought for Rondo. And even though he will defend, he’s not the defender Rondo is on or off the ball. Rondo allows Boston to be flexible in their help D if your watch. He closes out other people’s men and then after passes makes it back in time to cover his own assignment. It takes unbelieveable awareness and ability to do this. I have NEVER seen Parker do this, ever.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 8:58pm #233717

thetruthParticipanthes a good rebounder. he has crazy hops. but lets be honest here the lil bitch does sneak in and grab rebounds.

0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 9:01pm #233719

thetruthParticipanti was his biggest fan back at kentucky, and early in his nba career, but people make it seem like hes a top 10 pg which he is not. kg, allen and pierce make it easy for him. and yeah so does duncan and co for parker. but i think parker is better than rondo.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 11/27/2009 - 9:03pm #233720
QHaynes20Lol, Your Opinion my friend.
Rondo- Rebounding, Passing, Defense, Potential, Leadership
Parker- Scoring, Experience, Leadership
My opinion- Rondo 5 to Parker 3…Rondo Wins.

ricks17Participantkudos to thetruth on starting up some heated discussions on here again. i totally agree with you that parker is a better basketball player then rondo, couldn’t agree more. However, to say that he(rondo) is not one of the top 10 pg’s in the league is absurd. for example jameer nelson? you honestly think hes better than rondo? and you have rose at #5? top 5 pg’sin the league at this stage in his career? ahead of steve nash, who has 2 mvp’s and who is off to an inredible start. wow. you must be on glue. and also you have brandon jennings in your top 10, hes off to an unreal start, which no one on this site would have predicted.i love the kid too, and hope he keeps it up, but you have to remember that its like 15 games into his rookie season. you can’t put him in the top 10 yet, if he keeps this up all season. than yes, i can understand, but not this soon. you lost a lot of respect for your argument by saying that. it seems to me like you place to much emphasis on a players athleticism. russel westbrook at 6?common dude. honestly hes like my top 5 favorite players, but no way would i say hes the top 6 pg in the league. you’ve got to leave favoritism out of your arguments, and be a little more unbiased.
to the question at large tho. Yes, tony parker is a better all around point guard than rajon rondo
Cheers

d-grizzlyParticipanti made a topic over the summer about how if you give rondo a jumpshot, he easily becomes the best pg in this league, or atleast top 3. until then, he’s top 10.
Tony parker eventually developed his jumpshot, it’s only a matter of time before rondo does.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 4:32am #233764

festar35ParticipantTo be honest i like CP3’s game but he has been on a losing team can we still put him at number 1? Nash has been outstanding in terms of stats and in terms of wins i think he is number1 (for now at least)
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 7:07am #233783
NYK2010ParticipantCP3 on a losing team they’d be a lottery team with out him last 2 years.
He’s improved on his game no way he’s not first or second in the league.
Rondo will probably get better his steals, rebounding are intangibles and him being so young put him near Parker’s level.
He did score in the playoffs when KG, was out if his shot was better the Celtics would be almost impossible to beat.
Best thing about Parker if you need a hoop he’s one of the best at breaking down the D and getting to the rim.
Take Rondo because he’s younger a better defender and Parker might’ve peaked already.0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 7:39am #233798
quincey hodges aka MR ETHERwhy cant you put him number one even though he’s on a losing team?. when the lakers werent that good alot of people still said he was the best player in the nba right?…as far as rondo and parker ..better point guard id have to say rondo. parker is a better scorer but as a pg scoring isnt the number one thing that makes you a good pg. making others better and assists is number one.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 8:29am #233817
SlimParticipantlake show made the playoffs, kobe is 6’6 SG who’s job is to score, 20-30 shots a game
hornets are led by a 6’1 PG who’s job is to pass, a PG normally takes about 16 shots a game
apples and oranges
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 8:56am #233827
quincey hodgesa point guard usually takes 16shoots per game?..that seems kinda high..ill have to go chack that out now,..brb..not really sure what youre talking about with apple and oranges but my point about kobe was about how a player can be considered number one on a bad team if he is good enough
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 9:00am #233829
quincey hodgesactually point guards take a average of 9 shoots a game. only a couple take more then 13
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 9:21am #233835
SlimParticipantactually point guards take a average of 9 shoots a game… only a couple take more then 13
Chris Paul shoots about 14 shots to be exact
Just curious is Chris Paul an average point guard that shoots 9 shots a game or 16 shots a game/more than 13?anyways i just read thru and
1) festar is being biased, the Suns team is WAYs are better than the Hornets oft-injured cast2) Chris Paul is a better point guard because of his defensive takes u out of it
3) Kobe has never had much competition at the SG spot outside of Wade, then there is Roy(POR), Johnson (ATL)
4) the NBA has way more depth at the PG spot in terms of “arguably the best”
5) compare point guards with point guards it just makes more sense
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 9:34am #233840

festar35ParticipantHow am I being bias? The Pacers PG is shit not like i put him number 1.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 9:40am #233842
quincey hodgesaverage as in calculating…..and i said a couple take more then 14. you said a pg normally takes 16 shots a game right?..and i averaged out how many shots starting pg’s take. then stated how many take more then 13..i think only one even takes 16(jennings)
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 9:40am #233844
quincey hodgeswhich is why i said that seemed high and did research and found out that was very high
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 10:15am #233864
SlimParticipantyou can take out PG bcuz the only PGs that Confidence Okeke “researches” are Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, and guess who? Chris Paul just to name a few
they take a lot of shots, I said 16 bcuz I was going off memory and if memory serves me right all those guys took above 16 shots a game at one point in time (2007-2008, 2008-2009)
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html
as a side note I like CP3 as the best PG but that’s just mePHX was not in the playoffs last year and Nash has better talent around him
and NOH losing record is not indicative of how well CP3 was playingthat’s why i said you were being biased, but I apologize bcuz Nash is up there with the PGs but i do not think he is the best anymore, Chris Paul plays better defense than Captain Canada
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 10:16am #233866
quincey hodgeslol..say wait when you say “pg’s normally take 16 shots a game” everyone is suppossed to think you mean past hof pg and not pg that are actually playin gin the nba now?…you know that makes no sense right. not one person on here thought you ment certain hall of fame pgs since i can name more hall of fame pg who didnt take 16 shots per game. come on just admit you were incorrect. it happens to all of us
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 10:22am #233868
quincey hodgesand oscar played more sg/sf then he played pg. go on that site and average out lets say 20 hall of fame pg and see if the average comes out to 16 or even 15 fga a game
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 10:43am #233874
SlimParticipantCHRIS PAUL ON AVERAGE takes 16 shots a game (last year),
CHRIS PAUL ON AVERAGE takes 14-16 shots a game
chris paul plays like Magic Johnson in terms of similar shot selection, u tell me one HOF pg that didn’t take 14-16 shots per game
and chances are they didnt play like Chris Paul
0 - Posted on: Sat, 11/28/2009 - 10:46am #233876
quincey hodgesok but you said a point guard normally takes 16 shots a game. you didnt say chris paul. chris paul is only one pg. you made a point to say a point guard which means all pg if im not mistaken right?

QHaynes20If Chris Paul takes so many shots…I would have to question the talent on that team.
Sorry, just my opinion. They added so many #3 options over the years think CP3 can turn them into #2’s…it didn’t work
