tuck243ParticipantI’m sorry I had to post this… "Who gonna gaurd me?"" Dennis Scott- "Nobody" Shaq- "Say it again" Dennis Scott- "Nobody" Then Charles said, "Who gonna gaurd Dwight?" Kenny "He only gonna have 20!" LMAO… I was in tears… Shaq would have demolished Dwight…
That got me thinking… What woulda happened if Shaq stayed with Orlando? Penny was a monster and is the reason alot of players play the way they do… Damn that suck he got injured…

aamir543ParticipantWell, we never know about injuries. He already had knee problems when Shaq left, who knows, maybe he would have been able to stay somewhat healthy had Shaq stayed. The thing is, when you have a big, you need at least one great perimeter player, which is why the Magic were really good before Shaq left, and the Lakers were a 2nd round exit team until Kobe broke out.
The Magic had the perfect complimentry players around Shaq, and anything could happen inthe NBA. Even without Penny, who knows, Shaq gets extremely and legendarily hot one postseaon(Say he averages 38 and 12) and the rest is history. But the fabric of time is extremely sensitive. So sensitive, that had Shaq stayed, we could possibly be looking at Kobe’s stats today, and see that he has 32,000 career points today however just one ring or that the Lakers traded up to grade Illugauskas knowing that they weren’t going to get Shaq, and Fisher ends up in obscurity with say the Grizzlies, or watch the All-Star game and see Kwame Brown in say a Bulls uni and Darko in a Heat jersey, and we would be calling Bosht eh ultimate bust. History could be a lot different if just one iddy biddy thing were to change.

Johnny ChillI dont know if Shaq would have dominated Howard. I believe Howard could hold his own against Shaq. The biggest knock on Howard is that he cant bring his team together like Shaq did. Shaq has the leadership edge on Howard.

FastAndFuriousParticipantStop it
Shaq would destroy Dwight seriously.
Dwight is athletic as all get out, but Shaq was brute force and power, he would overwhelm Dwight on the block, no contest.

frogmanParticipantAamir, whenever i get bored from now on I will come back to this thread and try to decipher whatever it is you are trying to say. I’m assuming it will take about 3 – 4 years.

frogmanParticipantAnd youngdave don’t disrespect Howard by saying it would be a no contest. He would more than hold his own. Current players don’t get the credit they deserve on this site.

FastAndFuriousParticipantAre you serious?
Shaq in his prime against Dwight is NO CONTEST, did you not see how strong Shaq was and how powerful he used to be, I don’t see any centers scared of Dwight, centers back then used to FEAR Shaq, didn’t want no type of that banging shaq used to give them.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI like Dwight, but this isn’t the 90’s. He’s not seeing Ewing, Hakeem, Robinson, etc. He’s not seeing a Mourning. Not even a Smits.
A prime Shaq would destroy Dwight. Shaq was taller, longer, bigger, stronger and probably just a notch below athletically. Dwight would be fouled out or dominated.

aamir543ParticipantA prime Shaq would demolish Dwight. Just too much brute strengnth.
And as for understanding what I was trying to say, basically, think of it this way, if Shaq stays in Orlando, that means LA doesn’t win as many games as they actually did, and Orlando wins more than they actually did. Now think even harder. Let’s say Penny’s career was destroyed when he tore his meniscus on a drive in the 98′ season, well, now Shaq is there, their whole gameplan is different, every playin every game is different. And now let’s go back to the 97′ season. The Lakers win less games, and the Magic win more games. That means other team’ records will also be different. Instead of the Spurs having the most lotterey balls, the Celtics lose more, and they end up getting Tim Duncan, but that means they don’t get Paul Pierce the next year, and Chauncey Billups ends up in Philly, and Kieth Van Horn in San Antonio. This sequence alone changes the course of basketball for the next decade, and more ramifications follow it. Then let’s say that in 2001, Kwamay Brown ends up in Chicago, and realizes his true potential, and DWade ends up buried on a Doug Collins like coach’s bench and never fulfills his potential, and Darko is everything we see in Greg Monroe, and so on and so on. Because Shaq wasn’t in LA, The Lakers become Kobe’s team much quicker, but Phil Jackson probably doesn’t come out of retirement to coach a team with Kobe, and then Elden Campbell and Eddie Jones as their next best players. All I’m saying, is that one little thing can change everything.

Maniac MaciejParticipantShaq in his prime was unguardable. Ben Wallace was a strong dude, but he had no chance stopping Shaq. All you could do was hope to contain him.
That being said, I think Dwight would outrebound him, and make him work harder than usual on the defensive end, and then just hope he wore him down a little bit.

aamir543Participant^I think you’re forgetting that Orlando Shaq was in Shaq, crazy athletic, and could ru the court like a gazelle. He’s the reason today’s backboards are so much stronger, lol. Dwight would not wear down Shaq, Shaq would wear down Dwight easily. No question. LA Shaq was the fat get the F**k out of my way Shaq that was still dominant.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI wouldnt say a young Shaq would destroy Dwight..Becuz some say Dwight is 1 of the best defensive centers of all time…
Shaq said Morning and Olajuwon are the 2 players that guarded him best..And both players are similar in built, athleticism and height to Dwight… Rodman use to guard him pretty good and would frustrate the f**K out of Shaq…And Rodman was about 4 inches shorter..Dwight moves his feet well on defense and he’s much stronger than people think..
I guess if you focus on being a great defender and have a style that you use thats successful, that can affect the way a player performs against you,you can guard almost anyone thats your size….
I dont understand why you guys are talking like a young Shaq would score 50 every time,if Dwight was guarding him..

StF616ParticipantPeople forget so easily..
Dwight Howard would easily get Dominated by a Prime Shaq. If dwight was put in the 90s he wouldn’t even be a top 3 center. I mean, Orlando shaq was just dominant, he was so quick so strong and other than Hakeem Olajuwon, nobody has ever really contained or stopped Shaq in his prime. I don’t think its even a comparison. An example, a rookie Shaq averaged 23.4 Points a game.. More than Dwight has ever done!!!. Through His first 8 seasons shaq averaged 27.5 points a game compared to dwights 18.3 points a game average he also averaged 2.7 Blocks a game, more than dwights 2.2 block a game average. In Shaq’s first 11 Years, he averaged more points a game than Dwight ever did in one season, through his first 11 years his lowest point average was his 23.4 rookie average. Through those 11 years he averaged over 26 Points a game 10 times. Shaq is also a better passer averaging 2.5 assists a game compared to dwights 1.5. Shaq has averaged over 3 assists a game 4 times in his career. This season is the only season that Dwight has ever averaged at least 2 assists (with 2.1). Here’s another stat, Shaq has averaged over 30 points a game in the Playoffs 3 times. Dwight has only averaged more than 21 points a game last playoffs averaging 27 points in only 6 games where they lost in the first round. Dwights highest per is 26 Shaq had a better PER than that in 11 of his first 13 seasons. The only thing Dwight beats shaq is Rebounding. The two aren’t even comparable. Shq dominated the NBA in a time with Big Men such as Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo, Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Kevin Garnett, etc in their Primes. Dwight can’t dominate an NBA with Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert as all-stars…

goldie92689Participant"LA Shaq" was the prime shaq, far better than "orlando Shaq". At this point he had developed better moves around the basket, he was bigger and still very athletic. Dwight would not do well with that matchup.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:23am #641248

The Dirty SanchezParticipantI think people are exaggerating, you guys forget that dwight is a 3 time defensive player of the year now of course shaq would get the best of him and shaq is obvisiouly the better player but to say shaq would dominate him is a little out of hand, i could see dwight doing decent enough on the defensive end i dont think he would get dominated like you guys say he might give up 20 or maybe 30 but not 40 or 50 and of course dwight isnt known for his offense but he would outrebound shaq and play solid defense on him
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:29am #641249
aamir543ParticipantPrime Shaq would not drop 50 on Prime Dwight. But He would definatly drop 25 on any given night. Not a diss to Dwight, but has he really had to guard a dominant center other than Shaq and Yao years ago? Other than that, he’s had it pretty easy at the Center position. Shaq had Mourning, Olauwon, Ewing, and Yao, and I’m probably missing a ton of other guys that are better than Tyson Chandler and Mark Gasol.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI found it interesting when Shaq said he hadnt heard of Penny Hardaway until they were filming the movie Blues Chips…Huh,did he not have Sportscenter?
And Shaq said he was impressed with Penny’s game and asked the GM to trade for Penny…He said he saw himself and Penny as another Magic-Kareem combo…..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 2:14pm #641319
NYK2010ParticipantAlso Shaq was more clutch and not in foul trouble as much.
