Magic JordanParticipantIs Whiteside getting the props he deserves? I don’t see him mentioned much on this forum which is a bit suprising. He is anchoring one of the better defenses, cleans the glass and scores effeciently. He is also about to be an unrestricted free agent. He has had attitude issues in the past, and not so recent past. When I watch him, he has pretty poor body language but even that has improved dramatically.
The question is, what do you think he will get on the open market? What do you think he is worth on the open market and what would you be comfortable (assuming you were a GM) offering him on the open market?
Does he fit in with the "Get paid and fall off a cliff" group? Do you think he will keep up the good play after he gets paid? Or is he just waiting to cash in, then check out?
I really could see him going either way.

high floorParticipantThe way contracts were handed out last summer (Enes Kanter, 4yrs 70mil) Whiteside is in for a huge pay raise. Even if he only makes it through 50 games this season & misses the playoffs, I still think he’ll get paid. Wes Matthews came off one of the most debilitating injuries a pro athlete can suffer (achilles) and he received 17.5mil per year. So yea.. I think he’ll get Kanter money, and will deserve every penny.
He has played so impressively that if we were to power rank all the NBA Centers this year, he would be top 5. And I don’t see any reason he’ll slow down either.
I do think there is a slight chance he sand bags after receiving a big payday, but not enough to deter or concern me if I’m a GM. He’s a game changer on the defensive end, with some offense to boot. Just a beast

NBAjunkie81Participantanchoring the Heat’s game in the paint…. 15 pts 10 reb every night w/ a crazy 64% FG% & he’s blocking 4 shots a game….. W/ that potent line up of Wade, Dragic, Deng & Bosh, (along w/ rookie Winslow)….. The Heat should be an exciting addition to the Eastern Conference Playoffs….

OhCanada-ParticipantHe’s getting the max for sure. DPOY candidate and the key to Miami’s success. Usually outplays any C he is matched up with. I don’t think he will fall off a cliff hasn’t shown signs of being frail and his immaturity is more of a passionate thing rather than a coachability thing. Also if he can stay consistent in the limelight in Miami I don’t see him failing do to pressures of a star.

cargathusParticipantI think he will get the max. He is in a great situation though, because if he does get lazy the first or second year C-Bosh and hopefully Dwade will still be there to beat some professionalism into him. Having mentors like the aforementioned two should really help him develop and reach his potential (and hopefully bring back the era of the big man because there is nothing more beautiful IMO in this sport then a well run inside-out offense)

EspressoParticipantHe is a Beast. He is playing like the best player on the Heat right now. We do noticiably worse when hes off the floor. He’s been playing like a young Bynum or a peek Hibbert. I hope he uses that attitude of his to light a fire under him everytime he steps on the court.
Yesterday he scored off a hook, made a defensive play and got the defensive rebound, then came down the cpurt and scred a hook again…. as he is getting back on defense he raises the right side of his upper lip and makes a MEAN MUG. I like that fire.
He is terribly bad at passing and is known to put it even when TRIPLE teamed, its actually a bit ridiculous how he manages to score regardless. That will bite him in the ass on the playoffs thought, and i hope he understands that as he rises as the best player on the team as a post scorer and player, he should be responsible for SOME degree of playmaking. I thought some one would bring him up is the "dark hole thread"
Sky is the limit, hes getting better every game. Possible MIP and DPOY

ZachAttackParticipantHave we not been non-stop talking about him since the All Star Break last year? I mean seriously? I honestly don’t see what’s so great about him. He’s a big who has good rebounding ability but he’s nowhere near the level of maturity he needs to be. I mean, I think it’s really annoying that we’re STILL talking about him. I mean, he broke out last year. He’s definitely not deserving of a max contract either. He’s just an average player.

EspressoParticipantYou are ridiculous if you dont see what’s so great about him.
Do you watch the Heat play? He is a dominant force that can’t be stopped. He’s getting 5 blocks a game. Shooting 64fg% and scoring 19ppg with 14 rebounds per 36 minutes.

Mad MaxParticipantOverrated on defense, he’s great at blocking shots, but not that good on the ball, in pick and rolls, in the post. Rebounding monster tho, he and Drummond are very similar. Whiteside is longer, Drummond is stronger/better athlete.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantI watched him his first go in the league, then watched him play internationally, I thought it would be a long shot for him to get back, then something clicked for him.
I was worried that last season was a fluke, I didnt want to get to excited again like I did durring Linsanity.
But he is legite. I am buying into him,
will be interesting how much all-star consideration he will get,
(I personally would take Drummond over him)

Mr. HookShotParticipantI would say he should receive similar interest as DeAndre Jordan this summer. Basically the same type of players, athletic, good shot blockers but not the smartests players on defense; on offense they are they to finish alley-oop plays and miss free throws 😉
