SnowtaParticipantI hope the Bulls game showed Milt Newton that the Wolves play better without Kevin Martin. I think he needs to be moved to open up time on the 2nd unit. Bazz would get some much deserved extra playing time and you could move Lavine to the 2 and have either Andre Miller or Tyus run the backup point. Not to mention when K-Mart is in the game the ball always stops moving. Having Rubio, Bjelica, Andre Miller, Towns, etc. all good passers on the floor together with scorers like Wiggins, Lavine, and Bazz the ball moves and there is a lot of cutting. When K-Mart is in the game the ball goes to the wing and sits for 6-10 seconds, usually followed by a couple dribbles, jump into the defender and hope a foul gets called. Doesn’t bring much to the table on the defensive end either. I think he could be the Enes Kanter of this season if they move him. Trade a player that puts up good stats and the team gets better. Addition by subtraction.

dmo21ParticipantProbably just giving him minutes to get his value up so they can ship him off. That’d be the most logical thing to do.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantTeams already have many years of film on Kevin Martin and they know what he can do.
The Wolves will trade him when there is value to be returned. There will be teams needing his shooting come playoff time.
His value will depend on how desperate a team is to replace an injured player prior to the trade deadline.

SlickBouncePassParticipantbut then when someone pointed out on here how he never passes, its spot on, lol. I haven’t seen him pass yet, the ball just dies with him, thats cancerous to a good young team. Where is the trust to get the younger guys more confidence. You don’t get any confidence by watching Kevin Martin, for God’s sake, a role player off the bench, go to work. If you’re developing a team, isn’t it more important to develop the young guys rather than have them watch aging veteran Kevin Martin play iso basketball off the bench.
Secondly, about the Timberwolves, I will say this. I was a huge Zach Lavine fan for his athleticism coming out of UCLA. I thoguht he had loads of untapped potential and Steve Alford was playing his son over Lavine for no particular reason.
As great of an athlete as he is, whats the point if he has no clue how to play within a system. I hate to say this, but I think he is a complete airhead when it comes to knowing how to play.
I forget the name of the guy but we’d go back and forth over Gary Harris and Zach Lavine. I was wrong, I’d much rather have Gary Harris on my squad, regardless of his athletic limitations. You get more out of Gary Harris than you do Zach Lavine. If I was Minnesota I’d just try to trade him to a team like OKC who lets their PGs run wild. He could learn from Westbrook I think. I think he could.

Jr. ROXASParticipantI don’t know what Sam Mitchell is doing, but he’s going all Scott Brooks on us now, and it sucks. Starting Tayshaun Prince’s corpse and playing Kevin Martin big minutes over Muhammad and Lavine. Just like how Brooks plays Thabo and Derek Fisher over Lamb and Jackson.Give the young studs a chance to develop!! Best way to gain confidence is to play in actual games, and not sit on the bench. I feel FLip would have definitely done different with this team. He loved Shabazz and Lavine last season and played them a lot.

T RexSam Mitchell is doing the right thing, which is trying to win. Wolves already have tons of young talent, they don’t need to tank again to get more, and then tank again to develop that new young talent.
At some point you need to take the training wheels off and start teaching kids how to win, rather than babying them.
LaVine at 180 lbs isn’t cut out to defend starting shooting guards, who often weigh in the 210-225 range, or more.
Just because LaVine won the dunk contest doesn’t mean he’s a stud in basketball games.
Backup shoot-first point guard is the position where his real talent and upside is, but he’s not there yet. Honestly, Jones looks better most of the time, and I say that as somebody who was very high on LaVine and very low on Tyus Jones coming out of college.
Tayshaun Prince’s advanced stats are among the best in the league right now, so you’re missing the impact he’s having on games, and on the team.
Shabbazz isn’t anything special, and LaVine may not ever put it together.
It’s really important for Towns and Wiggins to learn how to win, to learn how to not sh1t their pants in the 4th quarter, how to defend with focus and intensity all game long, and how to close out close games and gut it out.
Losing by 20 isn’t development.
Minnesota can compete for a playoff spot this year, and they don’t need a ton of new talent to make the next leap after that. They need accountability and a competitive environment, and they’re lucky to have winning vets around them this year. That won’t always be the case.

Dr.RedParticipantI have to say, surprisingly, I agree with almost everything you say.
I think Mitchell is doing a great job, all things considered. Sure, it is an extremely small sample size, but let’s see where this goes. I’d say Martin is the only one that needs to be shipped out. He is a cancer, and Wiggins plays way to passive offensively with him on the court.
Wiggins has played way better at the 2 than he has at the 3, even though he is a more natural SF. Once he puts on weight he can transition to SF, but I like him at SG for now.
The future of this squad is Rubio, Wiggins, Towns, and Bjelica. Dieng and Muhammad are solid role players. IF LaVine, Jones, and Payne develop consistency, they could be nice complimentary pieces, as well. But the old guys are a steadying influence on the young squad, and will be instrumental in developing a winning culture moving forward.
So far this season, this team is exceeding expectations, so I say keep it going.

ballislyfe25ParticipantI haven’t watched much of the Wolves yet this year but I think they should be starting Martin or LaVine at the 2 and let Wiggins play the 3. He is clearly a 3 on both ends and can play/guard the 2 in spurts or when the matchup is correct but not man the position full time.

Turning into pathetic Philly style losers.

T RexGood logic, the kids who won 10% of their games last year are better than the vets who are winning 60% of their games this year.
Yeah, more Shabbazz "team first" Muhammed, and more Zach "BBIQ" LaVine.

T RexWolves up 30 at halftime on the Hawks, showing exactly why they’re not tanking to develop LaVine and Muhammed.
Bigtime statement game.

T RexWolves just lost 20+ points of their lead with LaVine and Muhammed turning it over every time.
No time out called, just foolish.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThe Wolves win… and we will gladly take any win we can get regardless of how Trexxy see it. Wolves aren’t yet to the point where they can criticize a win. They are very talented bunch that will get better every game.

SnowtaParticipantIt’s not just about developing Lavine and Muhammad. When K-Mart’s not playing (or actually playing within the offense, like he was last night) Wiggins is a different player. Anything that keeps Wig from playing aggressively and attacking like as he has the last couple games is going to hurt this team in the short and long run. When K-Mart goes into chucker mode that’s exactly what happens. Not sure what your point is here T Rex, but troll on…
