The Minnesota Timberwolves are discussing trading Corey Brewer with multiple teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets, according to sources.

The Cavaliers and Rockets view Brewer as a notable boost for their wing depth.

Minnesota is believed to be seeking future assets in exchange for Brewer.

If Brewer winds up in Cleveland, he’d be reunited with Love, with whom he has a close relationship after their well-chronicled success on the fast break as teammates in Minnesota. The Rockets have been known to ‎covet Brewer since last season and they registered trade interest in the 28-year-old even before Brewer had a career-high 51 points against Houston late last season.

So this will mean more minutes to Shabazz and Wiggins??

Brewer hasn’t been that efficient, but plays good defense and could fit a nice role with a contender.  I am not sure where he winds up and what his value is at this point.  The Cavaliers and the Rockets don’t have a lot to offer aside from draft picks that would be an asset to a rebuilding teams.

And I thought Saunders’ strategy was to bring Wiggins along slowly, but a Brewer trade will definitely put him in a more Durant/Westbrook position of learning on the fly as opposed to the Paul George role.  (I saw this on an earlier thread and I liked it, sorry for stealing it)

With respect, I think that Brewer’s minutes could easily be divided among the likes of Shabazz and Chase Budinger, without putting any added pressure on Wiggins to play the Durant/Westbrook position as a rookie. While it’s true that Wiggins could get those minutes if he’s earned them, I think Flip would be more than happy to give them to Budinger who hasn’t seen much playing time, or Bazzy who scored 18 points in 14 minutes in his last appearance.

Kind of makes sense that Brewer is getting plenty of minutes now, Flip the GM is raising his value for a trade through Flip the coach.

I think Brewer would be a good pick-up for either of those teams, I think the Timberwolves were looking to compete in some fashion until Ricky Rubio went down and ruined their chances (however slim) of making the playoffs.

Would be good for Brewer and good for whoever he ends up with, provided they don’t give up too much.

The question is what do they give in return. Something around Bullock and a second round pick seems like all the Clips can offer; is that enough? For the rest the Clippers don’t have a whole lot to give as they also lack the rights to players abroad (only Cenk Akyol from Turkey who will never play in the league).

I just can’t see how Brewer is an improvement over Matt Barnes. Probably more athletic which allows him to gamble on passing lanes, but Barnes is a better one-on-one defender and a better corner 3pt shooter, in my opinion.

What would Wolves seek? Would a proposal of Tayshaun´s expiring + Calathes + 2nd be enough?

Agree with omphalos, Lavine starting at the point over Mo Williams says it all.

As a clippers fan I would be happy with Brewer at the wing but the main question is what assets do we really have to give up?

Brewer to the Cavs seems to make a ton of sense. He plays great D so LeBron can take a break at times on that end, loves transisition, and clicks with K-Love. Only issues I see are his contract (lil over 4 mil this year and next) and the Cavs fettish with Joe Harris.

Agreed, Brewer to the Cavs makes the most sense and quite frankly im surprised this did not happen sooner. He’s a plus wing defender whos going to give you effort on that end of the floor, but won’t give you much on offense aside from leakouts and in transition where he is pretty effective.

I am hoping this starts the gradual trading of their veterans. I think it is good to have about 2. I like the mo williams addition. I think then you trade 3 out of these guys young, brewer, martin, pekovic. They have a young guy in every spot if they get rid of them, especially on the wing. They have lavine, wiggins, muhammed, and GR3. Then they also have bennett and dieng. This is a pretty decent young core that is probably a few years and a player away from contending for a playoff spot. They also have a much higher potential than what they had with kevin love, in which their roster was probably capped out at a 6th seed at best. This team in about 3 years could contend for a conference championship and possibly a title.

With Wiggins, Chase and Bazz even Bennett then Flip probably feels he has enough depth at SF and if they get a nice trade piece for Brewer it would be a decent deal for them.

The Cavs already owe T-Wolves a pick but could send 2016 first rounder and Houston have a few nice assets and could offer Jason Terry’s expiring deal giving T-Wolves an instant salary saving to balance a deal out with a pick.

If the Pistons can move Josh Smith (maybe get a third team involved) I would like to see them go after Brewer.

Brewer would be ideal for the pistons, he doesn’t need many shots (slim chance with Jennings and KCP anyway) and his defence would be great for the pistons.

Cavs can use someone like Brewer, Rockets don’t need him as much with Ariza there.  Minnesota don’t need him, they have the younger swingmen to develop.  It makes sense that a trade is being talked about.

Can the Cavs use a trade exception to get Brewer, if not someone like Haywood could be used to even out the money in a deal.  One problem those teams have is that if the Cavs wanted Brewer they should have done that with the Love deal, now the Cavs have few assets to move for players to match salary.

Rockets also traded many assets away recently, like draft picks, but Jason Terry’s expiring deal could be part of a trade.

December 15 will make a trade like this easier to do, as players signed as free agents will be allowed to be put into trades.
