Timberwolves made offers today to both JJ Redick and to resign Chase Budinger, both for 4 years. They’ve said they are committed to signing 1 of the 2 although they prefer Redick. Redick isn’t quite who I thought they were going to target, I thought it would end up being Mayo since they now have some cap room with AK declining his option, but I think he is a good fit. He would step in as the immediate starting 2 and would help them space the floor, something they were desperately lacking last year. What’s everyone else think of the fit.

Glad to hear they’re committed to Chase. Also, it’s good to hear that they’re finally looking to get a real 2. Ideally Reddick, Korver, Kevin Martin, or a trade for an SG would be preferable over Mayo. I’d be alright with Mayo if they didn’t pay him a ton, but then again this is the Wolves we’re talking here.

JJ, though not a great defender at the 2, would fit perfectly with what the Wolves need. The Wolves biggest need is someone who is a true 2 that isn’t Luke Ridnour. They need people who can knock down 3’s. Reddick is one of the best in the business at that. I like him better than Mayo, because Mayo strikes me as a ball-dominant, inefficient, sub-par defender kind of player. Reddick isn’t a great defender, but he’s a good team player and knocks down 3’s at a high rate.

apparently they want to stick with all white players lol Mayo would seems like a good fit due to the fact that he can score in a variety of ways. Redick would still be a good pickup since you know for sure that he is going to bring his shooting.

I don’t think race has anything to do with this decision, and Redick would be a better signing than Mayo. Redick is an awesome role player who has improve immensely since he came into the league. He’s not just a shooter, but can hold his own on D, as well as move the ball. He averaged 4.4 ast a game this year, and that kind of player works better in Adelmans system than a player who isn’t known for his willingness to play team ball. Or am I the only one who remembers how pedestrian Mayo was once Dirk came back?

another guard flip saunders is talking to Nick Young who he coached in washington. but i see him more as a back-up choice if JJ passes. nick has a good outside shot, but doesnt play great team ball and despite being more athletic and longer, i dont know if i can say he’s a better defender than Redick. this shows that flip isnt looking at the color of their skins but rather their game and what they bring to the team. not to mention their asking price.

They drafted shabazz Muhammad, gorgui dieng, and Lorenzo brown… none of which are white players

Redick is a solid player, he can defend also he can put the ball on the deck to conduct the offense while being a reliable knock-down shooter who doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be efficient who could be a fringe starter (28-32 mpg) for Minnesota or a valuable player off the bench. I don’t like the Nick Young interest due to the fact that they just picked up Shabazz Muhammad who is a “scorer” who will demand the ball, Kevin Martin would be a better option.

Rumor out of ESPNDallas is that the Mavs have contacted the Wolves about a potential sign-and-trade sending Mayo to Minny and sending Barea back to the Mavericks. Hmm..

Two shooters who don’t need the ball in their hands to be effective, and one defensive minded athlete to finish all those lobs that Rubio will feed him.

I know Flip has a hard-on for Mayo, but I think OJ wants the ball, and frankly I would rather have it in Ricky’s hands.

Wolves were one of the few teams to workout Shabazz more than once… they were prepared for the chance that Caldwell-Pope would be selected. I’m not sure the Wolves were sold on C-Pope or for any shooting guard for that matter.

It seems that the Wolves knew Kirilenko was planning on opting out prior to the draft as Saunders had hinted previously leading to the trade with Utah and knowing they’d have another 10 million of capspace to fill their shootin guard need.

    This just in:

“Darren Wolfson: Source close to Budinger if a deal is close w/ the #Twolves: “We’re working on it.” The Martell Webster 4-years/$22M deal doesn’t help. Twitter @DarrenWolfson”

Looks like Webster doesn’t even need to be playing for the Wolves to be hurting the team.
