jwall1ParticipantNo, because with every championship he will win from now on he is no longer the go to center piece, but more of a complimentary piece. I think you could argue top 10 of all time if he were to win 2 more though forsure.
Michael Jordan had an impact on the game and a hunger to win that has yet to really be replicated. Duncan, as great of a player as he is, does not match or supercede Jordan in those areas.

therealbballerParticipantThis is not correct in anyway… At first Tim Duncan should already be considered in the top 10 of all time he is smarter and better then any big man the NBA has ever seen. He is also one of NBAs biggest competitors of all time and should get more credit for this then he has been given. Give this man some god damn credit..
"I think you could argue top 10 of all time if he were to win 2 more though forsure." Please… 2 more championships, he already deserves to be apart of that top 10 shit.
He is still the definition of Spurs basketball and would be as long as he plays.

TarHeelRavenParticipantNah, but Tim Duncan is an all-time great. I think you could have a case that he’s a top ten player of all-time. I think he is one of the if not the most consistent player of all time. Jordan had all the "wow" top ten sports center highlight dunks and crazy reverse lay-ups in his career. How many time has Tim Duncan appeared on a sports center highlight reel? It’s just amazing how fundamentally sound he has been. I hated him for the longest time, but I soon realized just how great he actually was.

TRC1991ParticipantThe only players ahead of Duncan on the all time list:
Jordan
Magic
Russell
Wilt
Kareem
Bird
hes 7th all time and right in front of LeBron – granted this is all opinion, but I view it as reasonable and certainly arguable

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf he could keep playing at this same level for 5 more years (which I don’t see happening) he would have a very strong argument for best big of all-time surpassing kareem, russell, wilt, etc. No way he would surpass jordan though, at least not in my mind.

canadabasketballisrisingParticipant@jwall; Duncan has NOT been the go to centre piece for a while now. It has been almost a decade where the reigns were switched to Tony Parker, and Pop put more of a focus on up-temp, offense and guard play, as oppposed to defense. It has now been over a year that the focus has now started to switch to Leonard. I am not sure how much basketball you watch, Duncan is a great, first-balot hall of famer, but there is no way, he is now just swtching to not being the focal point in terms of offense execution. This is a big reason (no the only) why he has lasted so long, a great system, great teammates, and much more. The year is not 2007!

circumlocution75Participantmix for the Title & they rarely ever beat themselves… Their consistency is unheard of in modern SPORTS – not just basketball…. Pop is obviously a HOF coach & I’m not taking anything away from him…. but Duncan is the man who makes it All possible…. People don’t understand that Jordan was never demonstrative… he never made a spectacle of himself w/ the press… He was ruthless on the court & gave the press next to nothing off it & Duncan is very similar….
Duncan’s leadership is legendary going all the way back to Wake Forrest…. I remember hearing a story about Duncan 20 years while he was still in college…. In a Wake Forrest practice in dreary winter, a young player was fooling around & not paying attention during a huddle where the coach was explaining a play…. Without saying a word, with a giant hand, Duncan grabbed the underclassmen by the jaw… not in a hurtful way, but more cupping him under the chin like you would do to a child. The gesture got the kid’s attention & Duncan’s said "Listen…."
Everyone got the message….how you practice defines how you play & you must bring it everyday…. All the greats have this in common – they work harder than everyone else & they don’t talk about setting an example – they set an example… Duncan’s personality reminds me so much of Jordan & Bird & Isaiah & Magic….
Now that "The Big Fundamental" is getting to the end of his career I hope people appreciate what a remarkable All Time great he has been…. & just like other All Time greats, we won’t see another like him…

RioRepParticipantHakeem Olajuwon is ahead of Duncan in the all time list. A case could be made to Isiah Thomas, John Stockton and Karl Malone. But he’s ahead of dream teamers Charles Barkley, Pat Ewing, David Robinson and Scottie Pippen. And I’m a huge Duncan fan since bis freshman year in Wake Forest.

circumlocution75Participant– both are All – Time greats – both lead all time great teams to back to back NBA Titles…. & we are splitting hairs here but I personally saw all the people you mentioned play & None of them are ahead of Tim Duncan….
I know Duncan has slowed down on the Offensive end – his Interior Defense & Rim protection broke Miami’s back in that 2014 Final…. & Duncan’s steady leadership is what keeps that team focused year after year after year…. To be the team Leader of a team that wins 50+ games a year for 15 years is just unheard of in the Modern NBA….
& that takes Nothing away from Hakeen & Isaiah – they were tow of the most Amazing athletes I have ever seen & Both were consumate team leaders but neither sustained their greatness for anywhere near as long as Duncan…..

TyroberParticipantI don’t see him playing 5 more years. He could still contribute for 5 more years but thats just due to his greatness as a player, but he doesn’t seem to be the type of player to drag out a retirement. Hes already top 10 all time in my eyes and if he got 2 more championships it would probably put him closer to top 5, but the 5-10 seem interchangeable anyway.
