Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a conversation where everyone could weigh in on the mock draft that went up on the site yesterday. I don’t have any major issues with it, but was surprised about a few things:

    • Joel Embiid being 1st overall. The Bucks just paid Larry Sanders big time, I’m just surprised they wouldn’t take one of the incredibly highly touted SF’s on the board (Wiggins or Parker). Especially considering that most mocks have them above Embiid anyway. Maybe the Greek Freak is partly behind that reasoning.
    • Aaron Gordon dropped all the way to 20th. I understand that his stats are a little weak, but after watching 4 or 5 AZ games, he really looks like a great team-first player with crazy athletic and IQ upside. I’m just surprised he isn’t at least towards the bottom of the lottery.
    • Zach Lavine overtaking Dante Exum. I’ve only watched 2 UCLA games and Zach was not impressive in either one, which admittedly tainted my perspective on him. But, I just thought that Exum was a really highly coveted prospect.

Anyway, being an Orlando Magic fan, I was happy to see that we were projected to take Jabari Parker, so really no complaints. I’m curious to hear what everyone else thinks about the list, so leave your comments!

Joel Embiid at #1 has nothing to do with the Bucks right now. NBAdraft doesn’t account for the teams until after we find out exactly where they are drafting.

I think Aaron Gordon eventually ends up going in the lottery, but his range seems like 10-20.

Lavine over Exum does surprise me though. I think Exum is the real deal.

Tyler Ennis jumping up to number 10 has me ready for a morning beer today. Stoked to see Aran recognize him as the key to syracuse’s little run they got going. Ive stopped looking at the top 6, because outside of draft order its all about who picks those guys and how they advance into the rookie season. I do feel Dante Exum has a chance to slip out but thats just from lack of exposure and people questioning aussie competition level.

Id say waatch for Melvin Ejim to jump up a lot if he keeps showcasing this versatility.

Rodney Hood has been extremely impressive to me.  Jabari Parker has struggled the last 3 games and Hood has been a monster.  While Duke basically laid an egg at Notre Dame, Hood was great.  He has a silky smooth jumper and can’t be left open.  He needs to work on his ball-handling, but I think he projects as a solid contributor at the next level, maybe even a starter one day.  Jabaro gets all the hype, but Hood has been Duke’s best and most consistent player all season.

Surprised that Wiggins is behind Parker.  Wiggins just has a more NBA-style game and with Parker’s recent struggles (7 ppg on 31% shooting over past 3 games), I thought Wiggins would overtake him.  I still think that Wiggins both is the top overall prospect and is most likely to be drafted 1st overall.

If you throw out who they SHOULD draft at 1 or 2, the Bucks should look at Marcus Smart.  With Henson and Larry Sanders inside and Giannis on the wing, the Bucks could use Marcus Smart as their point guard of the future.  Unless they can get Wiggins to play the 2 (with Giannis at the 3), Smart as an oversized point guard/floor leader might be the best pick for the Bucks.

Aaron Gordon is too low at 20.  I think after Rodney Hood/Gary Harris, Gordon is the best talent on the board.  He might even be a little better since he has more size and athleticism.  He is probably a tweener but if he can guard both spots it shouldn’t be as big of a problem.  Then you have a guy like Shawn Marion.

I think the top 5 or 6 guys will go somewhere in that order, but the rest of the draft could come down to the NCAA Tourney.

Suprised Sam Dekker is not in the first round (or 2nd for that matter).  Scouts love his efficiency and will be surprised by his athleticism testing.  I think he is a lock for the first round and while the Badgers will always be a good team under Bo, lets not kid ourselves, they don’t have the fire power for a national title, so Sam cannot make the argument he is coming back for a title run.

Also…….James McAdoo, you should have come out 2 years ago.

Can anyone tell me anything about Michael Qualls? He was a big time athlete coming out of high school but he barely made the Rivals150 (ranked 149.) I also checked his stats and they were impressive- 14ppg and 5rpg while shooting 42% from downtown. I’m just surprised he is one spot below Aaron Gordon and above highly regarded players like Dario Saric, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Anderson, and Chris Walker. Anyone watch him play? Thanks

As a UNC fan obviously, Mcadoo has been the most frustrating player I have ever seen in my life.  He lost so much money by not coming out after his freshman year when he would’ve been a top five pick.  He has everything you would look for in an all-american and potential star at the next level, strength, athleticism, speed, quickness.  The thing he obviously doesn’t have is the drive and mental make-up and work ethic to be a great player.  He is wasting his god-given gifts by coasting through his career half-assed and it is so frustrating.  He’s an atrocious free throw shooter and his form has changed about 5 times throughout his career.  With his athleticism and quickness, he loves to shoot fade away jumpers which makes me want to throw something at the TV.  He has shown flashes of being a really good player with hilight dunks and taking the ball coast to coast for and ones, but he is so consistent at being inconsistent with his intensity and focus.  He might as well stay for his senior season and graduate since he is most likely a second round pick if he came out this season.  He was obviously super overrated coming out of high school and playing at Norfolk Christian, a small school, he most likely didn’t play against the best competition or ever learn to have a strong work ethic.  All UNC fans will play the  "if only" game for a long time with Mcadoo.  If only he had a desire and drive to be a great player.

Why isn’t Hezonja ranked in the 2014 Mock anymore? Has he already said he won’t declare cause his poor performance this year can’t be the reason just for his immense potential and talent alone.

Other questions are why is Micic ranked higher than Saric who I think is by far the best prospect coming out of europe not named Hezonja?

And finally aren’t there any non Balkan guys out there who eras some interest? Usually there are some french, argentinian, brasilian or eastern europe players every year who are worth a look.

Btw, where have all the mega tall, super young and highly skilled prospects from China gone after Yao left???

and as someone that literally watches ZERO international ball…I have no answers for you. What is the deal with Hezonja? Why is he so highly touted?

Hezonja is a top 10 talent,he reportedly grew 3 inches over the summer…He hasnt played much this season for..Thats why he’s dropping in most mocks, becuz scouts havent seen how much his game has progressed or regressed……..

Former nba player Joey Dorsey is on the same team and says Hezonja has more talent than Rudy Fernandez…..

I’m surprised with Jerian Grant at 53. He’s playing a great season, super efficient, great distributor, shooting over 40% from 3, tall for a point guard, decent athlete. Chad Ford has him as a first rounder. Still not much love here.

Also Saric at 23 seems a bit low to me, unless he has buyout problems or other stuff. I like CJ Warren finally cracking into the first round. I have Gordon higher, but I also think he might slip.
