What do you guys think about this? IMO, I kinda like that fire from Wall. The first elbow was an accident by Big Z but it looks like the second elbow he throw was a little intentional. I don’t mind seeing Wall retaliate like that but they got ejected and may get fined for this too.

So do you guys like that fire in a rookie or was this a bone head mistake by Wall?

Theres an elbow and if you look closely i think ilgauskus knees Wall away which is what really pisses wall off. Ive never liked Big Z and this makes me dislike him even more.  I like the fire in Wall but he probly shouldve let this go and not done anything.

I would have done the same thing if I was Wall. Those elbows IMO looked intentional. Big Z deserved it.

i watched it 3 times and i still cant tell if z did it on purpose or was just trying to swing his arms to make a pass. But i also have no problem with wall reacting since he did get chin checked. My only problem is wall came off soft there. If you’re gonna do something, dont throw a half-ased punch to the body then kinda lean on the guy. He looked scared like he was hoping someone would step in right away.

F Big Z. He has made a career off of fouling when the refs aren’t looking  and being a dirty player. He pushes off on every rebound he gets and sets illegal screens. If I was Wall I would have hit him in the face because thats basically what Z did to him- only with his elbow.

Z just got mad that Wall was playing pesky D on him but as much as I hate Z, it was a poor decision by Wall to retaliate by hitting him. The headline on NBA.com for this video show how biased the NBA is towards the Heat though. "John Wall takes a cheap shot at Zydrunas Ilgauskas after he was inadvertently hit by an elbow". Thats not what it looked like to me at all.

It’s funny, when Z was on the Cavs, fans raved about him being a class act BUT i have seen some questionable dirty moments by Z in the last few years. I guess Z needs to pick on someone his own size. At least Wall did a little something but he is only 6’4" against a 7’3" center lol.

Besides, if Chris Bosh took those Z elbows, he would have been taken out on a strecther or something lol

I think the loudest thing this shows is how soft the league has become. C’mon now 3 ejections for this? They are grown men competing. John Wall was defending himself, it’s a true pity that this is all it takes to be ejected and fined.

From what I’m reading from you guys, Wall was suppose to either not react or punch Big Z in the face and take a big suspension.  He had to defend himself, but there is a limit on how far you can go.

chmaptrice, the vast majority of nba altercations are when guys dont want to back down but they also dont want to fight so they get in each others face and jaw or they shove each other. I have no problem with that and i dont think thiose guys are soft becasue they dont want to throw. But if you do decide to throw then dont do it it all soft then immediately back out of it, it makes you look scared. All wall had to do was chop him across the arms or something and then get in his face like 99% of nba players do then it would be all good. He came off looking kinda scared like i "uh oh, i done messed up swinging i hope he doesnt do anything back".

I don’t see where Wall looked scared.  I understand the "pull somebody in front of me so I don’t have to do anything" move.  I’ve seen it.  But he hit him in then got in his face.  That’s the way it always goes.  It can only escalate further if the second guy (Big Z) takes a "non basketball" swing back.  I’ve seen fights on basketball courts, pickup, high school, college, and pro and almost exclusively there has to be a shove/hit then the two stare down and if the guy who just got hit doesn’t retaliate then he just got chumped.

I love how LeBron tells the Wizards "do it one more time" like he’s going to do something. Later on Mo Evans fouls him and guess what he does nothing but again bark away. Guys in the league won’t take your seriously if all you have is verbal threats. You have to at least retaliate with physical play.

Totally agree ghettosermon. Everytime LeBron got fouled hard, he stopped to make it look like he was going to do something, but he didn’t do anything. The whole game was just funny IMO.

I agree with llperez. I’m a Wall fan, but he seemed like a fake tough guy there. After he threw the punch, he just had that look on that face like "$HIT! DID I JUST DO THAT!?!" Then he started backing up like he was expecting his teammates to cover for him.

I hate Big Z with a passion. Something about him just doesn’t fit right with me. I wish he would go on ahead and hang it up. He’s done.

This reminded me of the Pacers/Pistons brawl a few years back. A sad day in sports that I will never forget. I hate it when players fight. I know that sometimes a player needs to be taught a lesson, but I think it could be done another way. I just think that players need to learn to cool their tempers and play the game that I love the way it should be played. The tougher rules for officials isn’t helping and certainly the technical restrictions aren’t working either because players still think they are in control of the league when really they aren’t. This is one of the reasons why a lockout will happen. Sad thing to have happen and I don’t want it to happen but I realize that it is necessary in order to change some things in the game today.

His punch kind of looked more like a elbow to me or he just missed his target. I dont blame Wall for getting mad because i think Big Z did elbow him on purpose and I dont blame Wall if he was scared either which i dont think he was. If a dude 7’3 fronts on me I would freeze up a little too.

Hes mre then a foot taller then him. Whats John Walls wingspan? Lol a punch to the face at that height would take like 3 minutes to fully travel the distance to finally connect to big Z’s face. Really thou what do you want Wall to do, he’s a 6’3 KID, in a scrum with a 7’4 MAN. He did well imo.

I really dont get it. What did he expect? First of all the elbows or the little knee push didnt look that bad… Second when your a bigman and a smaller player tries to guard you, you are supposed to keep the ball above your head. Even Yao ming nailed somebody with 2 or 3 elbows in a row when they tried to guard him tight while trying to pass out of the high post and i dont remember him being called dirty for it.

I dont see how anybody can take a side on this "fight" to be honest

I don’t care how much younger Wall is than Big Z, Z would have wrecked his day.  You really wanna fuk wit a 7 foot damn near 300 lb person when you stand 6’4 just and under 215?  If Big Z wanted to he could go through a fight without letting Wall even touch him with his wingspan.  Personally I didn’t think the elbows were intentional.  He’s clearing space and if Wall wants to get up in his chest, Big Z is gonna make room.  If you don’t wanna get hit, get out of his bubble.  To throw a punch though in retalitation doesn’t do any good though, particularly when you lose your squad’s best player.  Anytime you start punching in a basketball game u don’t look tough, you just look like a cross between a douchebag and a pussay.

Every NBA team should have an enforcer on the team to keep things straight.

"Wall elbowed in the face.  Looks like he’s just walking away.  Kembo Slice now checking in for the Wizards."

    True to some extent Pureshooter

But i highly doubt you want that player being your starting PG, best player on your team, and the future of your franchise.  Get a role player for the enforcer role.  You don’t want your star player racking up techs and ejections and possible suspensions from being the "tough guy" or "bad ass".
