Lakers get younger and add some athleticism that they’ve much needed. They can start Barnes at the small forward position and have Marvin Williams come off the bench. MWilliams could really use a scenery change and the Lakers need some athleticism. Not only that, now they can start JSmoove at PF or even at SF if Lamar Odom becomes a starter. The Lakers became more athletic, younger, and more versatile with two guys in Odom and Smith that can play multiple positions. They can go small, big or athletic. The Lakers also get a PG that is a good defender and can hit 3’s, which is exactly what they need at this point. The Lakers can sign Prince for the MLE and maybe even Battier for the vet’s minimum. If they want a scorer off the bench, they can go for McGrady instead.
The Hawks finally get some much needed size and move Horford to his preferred position. Playing Bynum at center relieves so much pressure on Horford to rebound and defend bigger players. Artest relieves pressure off of Joe Johnson because he no longer needs to defend the best swingmen in the league. He can use more of that energy on offense rather than having to expend so much on defense. Hinrich seems expendable because of how well Teague is playing and how much he has improved. They also get experience from guys like Bynum and Artest because they are players that have won (a) championship(s)
Lakers potential lineup:
- Kirk Hinrich
- Kobe Bryant
- Josh Smith
- Lamar Odom
- Pau Gasol

- Joe Johnson
- Ron Artest
- Al Horford

CalipariParticipantIf I’m either team, I’m definetely jumping at that trade. Hawks get the big man to pair along Horford. Though they might not want to deal with Artest, they can always flip him later. The Hawks are limited with real great depth, so for them to get some high-quality players in a deal like this would be supremely beneficial.
