LA12ParticipantThis isn’t some thread to talk about how I expect Thon Maker to "average 35 ppg, 17 rpg and 19 bpg" or to "win 15 straight MVP’s" or any of that stuff since he’s still a a highschooler. My question is, has anyone else noticed that Thon Maker just plays with a different intensity than most of the guys you see at his age and height? It just seems like he has a real passion for the game, showing huge improvement through such a short time. He always seems to playing with a high motor and with high energy as well (although I’m basing this off mixtapes).
I just think it’ll be fun to watch this kid grow and develop. He seems like he has the hunger, drive and passion to improve. Not going to throw out wild expectations or predictions, but I think if he continues to grow he’ll be a real special player.

Ghost01ParticipantUnfortunately, it is impossible to get excited about anyone without getting accused of being hyperbolic.
But truth is, I love this dude’s potential, as long as his pure skills continue to improve, he’s going to be an amazing player. Will probably reclass for 2015 soon.

M-EazyParticipantKid is nice but I’m very disappointed in his decision to switch AAU teams from Boo Williams (nike) to Team Loaded (Under Armour). Was looking forward to seeing him play this summer but looks like the rumors about Under Armour paying his guardians is true. Watch him commit to Under Armour college too…

ChewyParticipantuse Under Armor exclusively?
This is an honest question, I don’t remember seeing any jerseys this year in NCAA (I could have just missed it!)
EDIT: This just proves I’m lazy as s@#$. It took me 5 minutes to find the following info- The top universities that wear Under Armour are Maryland, Northwestern, Auburn, Delaware, Hawaii, South Carolina and Texas Tech.
I don’t see any of them landing Maker…

M-EazyParticipantMay sound like foolish now but it could seriously happen. Under Armour is in his pockets.

Coach365ParticipantWhere do you get your information. According to draftexpress he switched to the Adidas circuit because it has the whole international thing happening with the Adidas nations and taking the best Adidas kids to Italy to play against junior European club teams in June. Team Loaded is an Adidas teams. Where do people come up with this stuff without checking the facts.
I guess Under Armour were paying the Harrison twins dad when they played for an Under Armour team and ended up at a Nike School.

jasiah10ParticipantThe kid is very talented. He can shoot off the dribble, score on the block, block shots and get his teammates involved. my one concern is that he needs to add weight to his frame. That will come in due time. He needs to also continue with the same game. I think a lot of college coaches don’t maximize a kids talent anymore. They take these kids and they plat them to what they need for there team. This stops most development of these superstar players. Look at Julius randle this year. beast of a player and yes it worked some during the early part of the year. but once teams started to figure our his moves main and counter he was ineffective during key matchups. If coach cal would have worked on his freethroughs, mid range jumper he would have been unguardable at the college level.

Rip255It’s so hard to call anything on Thon Maker because what he projects to be is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. A 7’1" wing player who can beat his man by hitting pull-up jumpshots off the dribble?
If he can do that, he’d have the most devestating scoring weapon since the skyhook since it would be unblockable. Like a cross between Dirk Nowitzki, Ralph Sampson and Kevin Durant.
Scary…buttt alternatively he could be the next Perry Jones (who was the #1 HS prospect if you recall and was touted to have a similar skill-set)

TheLastWordParticipantWell, ya, but Perry Jones is only 6’11" . And it was evident from his play at Baylor he was way overhyped.

HaleParticipantWho’s to say that in a few years we won’t be saying Thon Maker was overhyped? He shot 29% from deep last year, people need to realize he’s not anywhere near a longer Kevin Durant yet.

thatdude44ParticipantOverhyped? Maybe! but were talking about a 6’11 kid with an outstanding skill set. The problem people seem to have with Jones was his motor, it was never his talent. T. Maker seems to have a very similar skill level if not higher but the differance is, Maker is 7 feet and has that RUNNING motor that’s driving scouts crazy…

Rip255I hope that he keeps growing. I want to see him 7’3" and a new Ralph Sampson
He’s Aussie too. We might have the 3 top players in 3 of the next 4 drafts
Dante Exum, Ben Simmons, Thon Maker.
Kyrie Irving is an Australian Citizen, so if you include Andrew Bogut, that could be 5 Australian Number 1 picks in 10 years. Can’t the US produce NBA-Quality talent anymore
LOL
(Bring on the negs…we’ll see you at the olympics).

Magic JordanParticipantKyrie can no longer play for the Austrailian team as he is already in the USA talent pool. FIBA won’t allow a switch.
