OhCanada-ParticipantWho’s the better prospect?
This was an interesting debate before Sorber got injured.

NorrinRaddParticipantThis could depend on fit for sure… but I’d say Queen is the better basketball player. You can run an offense through Derik Queen if need be. Sorber is good on both sides and measured well. I’d be happy with either one tbh. Queen though if you need that guy.

HitsterParticipantThis is a close one as both guys are same height and Sorber carries about 9 more pounds which on guys that size makes very little difference. Shooting is pretty even with one shading FG and the other FT. They took 37 and 35 3 pointer shots respectively last season and Queen got one more of his. So both are a work in progress on that.
Sorber has the shade of athleticism and quickness. He has an edge on defence and is a good passer for a big man. But I think Queen is just that more NBA ready and could hit the ground running so I’d give him the edge for who I drafted first out of this duo.
I liked Queen’s attitude in the tournament when he was demanding the ball and would take responsibility for shots down the stretch.
Sorber if he pans out can be a rock solid NBA player as a starter or key rotational man for a decade plus career. He might get near an All Star game if he is on a successful team. Queen I have an upside as a borderline All Star, top 3 starter on whatever team he is on.

OhCanada-ParticipantDespite everything I’ll go Queen.
For me I’ve said it all year. First time I watched Derik Queen play I was stunned. Everytime he had a big matchep he ended up dominant and the best player on the floor. He shows a weird kind of fluidity that players his build dont have and has legit guard skills. I feel like he was the second most dominant player in this draft behind Cooper Flagg. Anytime he wanted to take over a game he did. Defensively he has very quick feet. Great footwork and anticipation which makes up for his lack of athletisism. The issue with Queen and its a very big issue is his transition defense. He lacks effort and the rare time he does sprint back on defense he fails to pick up the correct body and it creates confusion for his team.
Many times his teammates had there arms up in the air because Queen failed his defensive assignment in transition. How much of this is stamina compared to effort? How much of this is skill? How much of this is his body? What can he improve? The thing I’ve realized about prospects through the years is if they have a glaring weakness, in the pro’s this will more often then not be exploited rather than improved on or corrected. Even if he gets better you kind of have to project this to be a weakness throughout his career. I dont think many teams can live with a liability in transition being your starting Center.
As for Sorber he projects to be a very reliable big. He’s known for his activity defensively but to me his real value as a big man is his playmaking. He is a great playmaker and can read the floor very well. I think he has more promise as a shooter than Queen as well. Just looking at form I think Sorbers biggest issue was his slow release. Queen’s shot looks different almost everytime. I can also say that watching Sorber play he did miss alot of gimmies or shots you would expect him just to dunk but I saw somewhere he shot around 65% at the rim so maybe that was just the few games I watched him play and not a trend.
