Whos gonna be this years Pokusevski? Alot of people have been saying it will be Vrenz Bleijenbergh but I’ve got Ibou Dianko Badji. Turns 19 in October. 7’2 with a 7’8 wingspan. Very fluid athletic and coordinated for his size and is starting to develop a jumpshot and has shown touch. Its very hard to find a 7’2 player that can in theory switch onto guards and hold his own and Badji has the quickness and coordination to do that. He currently plays for Barcelona and hasn’t established any type of role with the 1st team but played well for the 2nd team. He could be a very intriguing draft and stash prospect for one of the many teams with multiple picks. Or you can do what Philly did to Embiid and lock him in a gym/lab and work on him for two years until he magically appears completely developed and dominant (that was weird).

After seeing how Balmaro has developed with Barcelona I like him as a stash prospect and think he will get serious consideration from Houston and OKC.

Balmaro was drafted and traded to Minnesota in last years draft. So you can put the dream of Houston or OKC drafting him to sleep. The way he played this last year over seas you can maybe expect to see him in the NBA this year.

Yeah the point is that Balmaro and Badji both play for Barcelona and the development system there has been good for Balmaro. I think Badji could have similar success as a draft and stash and think Badji may get targeted by a team like Houston or OKC.

Vrenz is a late riser for sure. He should be in the first round discussion. Badji, I’m not as certain on but I could be wrong.

Vrenz can sneak into the 1st round for sure.
Another name I’ll throw in there would be Hunter Dickinson. I know Dickinson is a big name, but he’s never been considered in the lottery or even a first round lock this year. The red flags on him is that he’s an older FR that has an old school game. Some may wonder how his game will translate to the NBA. On the other hand though, Dickinson was the focal point for a #1 seed in Michigan before they lost to UCLA in that wild one. He also might be the safest pick if you need a pure big. If I need somebody to fill the paint up, I would consider Dickinson in the late 1st as well.

I watched a ton of Dickinson this year and I don’t think he is anywhere near ready for the nba. He should return to school. I mean if he is getting serious first round consideration than maybe he should think about entering but I doubt he will. He had a very good year for Michigan but so much of his success had to do with him just being bigger and able to physically overpower his opponents. He has good hands and a nice touch around the basket but he has very limited post moves and virtually no right hand or ability to finish over his left shoulder. He is likely going to be a liability defensively because of his limited mobility and the fact he has short arms and isn’t much of a shot blocker. Adding more lower body strength and a consistent jumper from at least mid/range would make him much more attractive to nba scouts IMO.

While those are all fair points, he gets the recognition being from Michigan – a winner – and out played the likes of bigs such as Kofi Cockburn and Luka Garza, bigs with his size give or take. Not saying he is a lottery pick or anything, but I’m saying he has as good a chance as any being a late 1st/ likely early 2nd if you want a now factor paint player that can contribute off the bench.

Of the lesser known guys, Yoan Makoundou would seem to be the most likely to have people quickly have very strong opinions about him. He has silly length (one of them where you don’t need a tape measure to know), good athleticism, and a little strength to him. For his first real year as a pro with Cholet, he is doing well on that grading curve. Long way to go on his skillset, but the shot doesn’t look terrible. Like a few international prospects in this draft, he benefited from more veterans players leaving the team early on because of the pandemic, and opportunity for young guys who don’t make much to get a chance. NBA teams have had success with guys coming out of the French league. It would make sense for there to ultimately be buzz.

I’m hearing that Matthew Mayers and Raiquan Gray are starting to get 1st Round Buzz! The league said combine this month. Kuzma played himself Into e 1st round a few years ago after performing well

Earlier this year I had Oregon guard Chris Duarte as a name expected to raise. But seems like everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. I think Day’ron Sharpe will raise into the lottery. Reminds me of a combination of Bam,Al Jefferson and Isaiah Stewart. The Hornets might grab him at 11 or the Wizards at 15.

I think Memphis is going to pick Duarte. Just seems like a typical Grizzly vocal chippy two way player that can step in right away and produce. I think his range is anywhere outside the lottery.

And Day’Ron Sharpe does remind me a lot of Isaiah Stewart. But I’m still not that high on Stewart. He’s been better than I expected but I don’t think hes anywhere near that callibur.

Yeah alot of people seem to be high on Sharpe. He seems to have dodged that ‘not an ideal skillset for todays Center’ category somehow. I never really watched UNC with him on my radar this year, what skills/or qualities does he have that has scouts thinking it will work for him? Obviously he’s a smart player or the Tarheels wouldv’e never scouted him. I mean I’ve only watched highlights of him but he seems to score all his points in the post, shot 53% free throws, was turnover prone and doesn’t appear to have the quickest feet.

He’s a bit raw but is a young physical presence that brings toughness on the defensive end. I wouldn’t exactly peg him as slow footed defensively, but he’s not exactly Isaiah Jackson quick on the defensive end either. The biggest thing he has going for him is that he has big size and strength, especially for his youth and isn’t a bad athlete at the same time. Offensively he is a shooting liability, however he can deceivingly pass the ball better than his stats suggest and can take it strong with his bigger frame. Right now there are about 10 different paint players on my big board that can get drafted anywhere outside the top 25 players in the draft to undrafted. Like Badji, Sharpe is one of those younger raw prospects. If Sharpe ever figures it out, he’s still probably a specialty player unless he figures out how to shoot. Anyone scouting him is projecting what he will do in 2-3 years, not for what he is now.

Could Josh Giddey move up as there is only one other PG outside of the top 4 on this site’s mock before him at 16 and 6ft 8ins ball handler could appeal to teams and gives matchup or mismatch options.

But Houston with the 4 first rounders will surely look to stash one of 18th,23rd or 24th pick if they use them all and don’t do any trades so the likes of Ibou Dianko Badji. would be an option with one of those later picks and stash him for a couple of years.

Another guy to keep an eye on is EJ Onu. 7’0 with a 7’6 wingspan. Blocks shots and knocks down threes. Thats all I know about him tbh he played NAIA Basketball for 4 years. If the talents out there they’ll find it. He has a workout coming up with the Celtics.

Onu stated he is keeping open his extra year college eligibility, and is also in the transfer portal. I suspect everyone will have a better sense of which path he goes down after the G-League combine in a week or so. My guess would be he gets told that teams will want to see him at the D1 level before considering him, but he if he plays well at the G League camp anything is possible. The G League event helped get Terence Davis make his claim, though he still went undrafted (doing well in the league though). I don’t think there has been anyone from the NAIA ranks to make the NBA since Moochie Norris, so it would be quite the accomplishment.
