mwardiaParticipantFor some reason, i rlly dont think tht wes johnson is gnna all tht good. i knw hes real atheltic and stuff, but idk theres somethin bout his game tht is iffy, he takes a lot of jumpers, and doesnt have the best handle in the world, and plays a lil choppy. im not sayin hes gnna be a bust, not at all, but i dont think he will exceed or meet expectations.
wat u guys think, feel free 🙂

BasterdInABasketParticipantNothing really to do with his athleticism or shot or anything but he doesnt look like he has that killer instinct or mentality to be a superstar. Everytime i see him play hes always smiling and laughing. I get that hes having a good time and having fun out there but when you think of all the great players in the nba all of them look completely focused. Only exception i can think is dwight but hes athletically in his own league which makes up for it.
Doesnt mean he wont be a good player but what do you guys think about this?0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/04/2010 - 5:51pm #263099

knicksfan7ParticipantI see Wes as good starter on a team who is will become a consistent 15 point scorer in the league. I think he’s a safe pick, but it could bite a team if they could of had a super star such as a James Anderson who has that potential.

JNixonParticipantI think he can be alot like Danny Granger. You guys are seriously underrating Johnson. There’s a reason he’s expected to be a top 10 pick. He’s a nice shooter and he rebounds very well. He’s not a very good ball-handler, but he can get to the rim at a pretty decent rate because he’s quick. He’s a much better prospect than you guys are giving him credit for.

BiggysmallsParticipantDanny Granger is one of the best pure offensive players in the league. He’s 6’9 230, handles the ball like a point guard (a really big point guard), he shoots the ball really well, and he can score in the post. Johnson is 6’7 190, shoots the ball very well, and can jump outta the gym. In terms of offensive potential, I just dont see 20 plus ppg. I see a 14-17 ppg type of player who is a solid 3rd option, but scores a majority of his points in transition, backcuts, and offensive rebounds, and spot up shooting. He doesnt create his own shot alot.
I like Johnson and I think he will be a really solid player, but I dont see a star in him.

flibbenmcgParticipantI think he could be like a Richard Jefferson kind of player, pretty good shooter, athletic but not jaw droppingly so, avg handles and a solid rebounder.

Dhamp2ParticipantYou’re right. The problem is Wesley can’t create his on shot off the dribble. He’s a great one-two step player, but as far as a cross over move to pull up or a dribble to the basket, dribble back and shoot…..he can’t do it. He’s also been hurt lately. That’s why Kris Jospeh is so important to the Orange. He’s the ONLY player on SU who can create for himself and others.
Dhamp2…You know the name
Hmmmm…Where’s everyone who said Willie Warren would be a lottery pick? Just wondering.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDanny Granger is 6′ 8″ 228 lbs. He didn’t come into the league weighing 228 lbs either. He built that muscle over a few seasons like most players do. Johnson isn’t as physically developed as Granger was when he entered the league, but he should be able to put on more weight.
Granger’s handles have improved, but he doesn’t handle it like a point guard. He’s still improving his ability to create his own shot. When he came into the league, creating his own shot off the dribble was a weakness. That’s why he played majority of minutes at power forward his rookie season.
Johnson isn’t as polished as Granger was when he entered the league, but I see the similarities… Especially the shooting stroke. I think Granger is his best case scenario if he gets stronger and improves his handles.

apb540ParticipantI see him as being a lot like Shawn Marion (minus the retarded shot) from back in the day.

Soulrebel15ParticipantWhy does Wes Johnson get penalized for playing on a well balanced team? Makes no sense to me, thats the beauty of Syracuse team, they can kill you on the post or perimeter from various other players. OK so he has limited dribbling ability, last time I checked not everyone in the NBA or NCAA possesses phenomenal dribbling skills, but they get the job done.
I like the Granger comparison, if you remember Granger was labeled as a jack of all trades master of none. Most analyst had Granger having an average/OK NBA career, so far he has proven them wrong. Johnson may not be a superstar in the NBA, but I think he’ll surprise a whole lot of people.

JNixonParticipantI agree with Tezo…Granger doesn’t and has never handled the ball like a PG. He’s not quite the all-around player Granger was at the same stage, but he’s still strikingly similar. I think he can be a Granger type of player. Just wait and see.

quinceyhodgesi think he can be pretty good. hes not always laughing though and hes just out there having fun which is good. hell melo smiles andlaughs half of the game so i dont think you have to look serious all the time to have that killer instinct( which i agree i dont think he has but not because of his playful nature)
