Got the job as head coach and president of basketball operations. Hopefully he doesn’t run that young team into the ground. I heard an interesting quote the other day. Coaches job is to win tonight and the executives jobs to win the season and beyond.

I predict a major leap next year.

As long as Thibodeau didnt take the Knicks Job, Thibodeau is my favorite coach and I will be a fan of Minnesota moving foward, the thought of what hes going to turn Wiggins into is scary

Scott Layden is a pretty solid hire, He gets a bad rap cause of his time with the Knicks, but the fact of the matter is Layden isnt in the Spurs Front-Office for no reason..

I’m pleased, but I’m not completely swimming in the Thibs pool. I’m dipping my toes and I’m cautiously optimisitc.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’s a top 5-7 coach in the league from a tactics standpoint. With him on the sideline, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Wolves are in the playoffs next year.

Did he learn from his crazy-run teams into the ground ways in the year off? Is he going to be willing to cede a little bit in terms of controlling everything during the game? This team is built to play fast and go up and down, that’s not Thibs style, or it wasn’t in Chicago at least.

This is the first time in a long time that the Minnesota job was actually a desirable one, so they had to strike on this now and make the hire. It’s a huge name and they should be much improved, but I fear he’s a little bit like the Jim Harbaugh of the NBA. Great while he’s there, but there’s a clear shelf life because of his grinding personality. We’ll see.

Yes, Thibodeau is pretty generous with his minutes towards the guys he trust, I believe Thibodeau is the Basketball verison of Bill Parcells.. Like Parcells his team and players have to match his personality type. Thibodeau would lay out in traffic for his teams, and he expects the same back.. When he was with the Bulls, Gar Forman/Paxson did everything they could to undermine Thibodeau (they were extremely threatened by his presence) example they fired his right hand man Ron Adams as a sign of things to come.. I truly believe drafting  Nikola Mirotic was the writing on the wall, Everyone in the media addresses the Bulls lack of Depth and how do GarPax Respond? They draft a guy they need to stash for a couple of years, while never addressing the Depth situation for Thibodeau.. They even did it again!! When they drafted Gary Harris and Nurkic both who filled voids and added great depth to Chicagos roster, only to trade them to Denver for Doug McDermott, a guy who is exactly the opposite of what Thibodeau is comfortable with on the Floor..

With Thibodeau making the Roster Choices, this will give him a full roster of players he ultimately trust.. Oppose to the other situation with Chicago, when year after year he was given less and less to work with.. The fact of the matter is those two jagoffs,  one of which traded LaMarcus Aldridge to Portland for a Low IQ uber athlete in Tyrus Thomas still have Jobs is beyond me..

Very intrigued to see how Thibbs rounds out his coaching staff. The Bulls offense was atrocious the past couple go rounds & seeing as how Thibbs did multiple drop ins with a few organizations during his sabbatical, I’m sure he realizes how crucial it is to have an offense that places in the top half of the league. In addition to the suffocating defense his clubs usually provide.

The Bulls offense wasnt bad, it was the pace at which they played that was bad.. Very slow tempo team.. They actually had a lot of unique sets.. Also Rose being injuried majority of Thibodeaus run didnt help the offense.

I hate people who go with narratives this time that Thibs is a bad offensive coach. His teams didn’t score a lot but they had FLOW. Never stagnant. A lot of screens, back screens etc.. Not unlike some other coaches these days.. *cough cough Billy Donovan*

Yes they did to a point.. Thibs was known to run a ton of variations of Flex, Floppy and Zipper lots of these sets have Triangle Principals to them but not the Triangle Offense per say if that makes sense.

Now the Wolves have no more excuses!  Wiggins will be awesome to watch his growth, but Karl Anthony Towns should be amazing. KAT should be in MVP discussion for the next 10 to 12 years any way.

Wolves fans will find out soon what Thibodeau think of Ricky Rubio.  If he doesn’t trade him or draft a point guard his oppinion should be obvious.

It will be interesting to see if suddenly Minnesota winters are more tolerable now that the Wolves are heading the right direction.  Everybody know our winters can be tough as compared to other places but they really aren’t much tougher than say Milwaukees or Chicago’s.  If a player lives downtown they never have to step foot outside anyway with the skyway system.  Only time will tell if free agents now see the situation differently.

I am excited for the hire and I anxiously await who they are able to add in the upcoming draft.

ricky rubio. he is the one that i am most intrigued with the thibs hire. im excited like the rest of you on what wiggins and towns develop into under Thibs, but rubio is generating the most intrest as far as unpredictability. scoring points with a good shot have thrived under thibs in chicago,(Augustine, CJ Watson, Brooks), but they were all back-ups because Thibs really loved the deffense and heads up play of Hinrich, something Rubio brings to the table.

given that he doesnt have the same shooting ability as captain kirk, but i believe his deffense and natural court general senses will cement him as the starter for the new regime in minny and will leave the scoring point with range on his shot as the back-up, just as what we saw in chicago. thats just my oppinion though and we can very well see thibs valuing the spacing provided at the point position and can look elsewhere for his starting PG. very intrigued how this will play out.

Thibs with Wiggins and Towns is going to equal greatness. Rubio too, his perimeter defense is good, They should thrive with Thibs gameplans. Im just excited to see Wiggins defense with Thibs coaching schemes and knowing the type of coach and player relationship they would have should allow him to definetly rise. Every coach looking for a job was probably dreaming they had a chance to coach this wolves team with that level of talent. Minutes or not, if a coach trusts you and is willing to play you those minutes that means a lot to a player, glad the Raptors dont have to play these dudes 3-4 times a year. Future is now Towns is the best center in the league his defense and versatility with Thibs is going to be trouble for the West.

You get the chance to coach Lavine, Wiggins and Towns. Plus whoever they add this year. Wow. He is a great coach and this is the job to get. I expect them to be the 8th seed next year. Lavine is gonna do wonders.

Lavine needs to get things together on the defensive end but yeah I could see him being a player in Thibs’ half-court offenses. It’s all motions, cutting, handoff actions which seem like things Lavine could do really well.

I’m not worried about Wiggins, though I am curious to see how the relationship between he and Thibs develops. Andrew is a different cat and hasn’t always taken "hard" coaching all that well. He’s not soft or lazy, but if a guy just yells to yell, they won’t get everything they can out of him.

I’ll really be curious to see what kinds of player Thibs and co try to pursue this offseason and in the draft. Will he go for ex-Bulls guys like Noah-Deng-Hinrich? I’d take all three at a certain price.

I also wouldn’t be shocked if Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler come up over the summer in trade rumors. Not necessarily to the Wolves but in general, in which case I’d be curious to see if Thibs would have interest.

I’m speculating a ton and getting the wagon ahead of the horse but this is an exciting time to be a Wolves fan. Finally.

Here come the bandwagon Twolves fans, who haven’t rooted for them at all in their 12 year play off draught. I became a fan in 2001 as an 8 year old because of KG, they had a few good years, then have been really bad for a while. I am going to miss the johnny flynn, wes johnson, mccants, losing a top 10 pick for marco Jaric years later, the giving $20 million to Darko days, the Kahn and McHale days of screwing up every draft except for Kevin Love, who they even screwed up by giving a non 5 year max deal to because they thought rubio would be a max player. Luckily Flip came back and started the turn around. It is great they should finally be competing for the playoffs again. I am actually going to miss those days.

Just getting wiggins was great, now they have towns, who is a great kid and a hard worker. They also have Lavine, muhammed, and dieng who all work hard they have the hometown kid in Tyus Jones to be backup PG in another year or 2 preferably. KG is back in the locker room, no body cares how much or how well he plays, just that he is there with those guys is great.

Thibs actually has players who can score. His problem was his offense on the bulls but half of that was that he never really had great offensive players other than Rose. Now he has Wiggins, Lavine and Towns who are all capable of scoring 20 ppg and that was with Sam Mitchell. The future is bright for this group and Thibs. Thanks Flip.

The Timberwolves have a bright future! Their young nucleus of Towns, Wiggins, LaVine, Dieng, Muhammad, Payne and Jones plus Ricky Rubio is fantastic. Now they hire a top notch coach, and they sit in this draft with the fifth best odds.

You can’t ask for anything else if you’re a Timberwolve fan. Saunders did his part when he was the gm of that team too. I see them making great strides, possibly turning into contenders for years to come.

Great coup for the T-Wolves getting Thibs. Layden wasn’t great at the Knicks but has worked for the Spurs since and had many years with Utah before that.

Great hire for a team that couldn’t make the playoffs. The question will be whether they can win a championship, but just being a playoff team consistently would be huge for the T’Wolves.

Thibs ran his players into the ground later on, but Chicago was actually known for its bench mob before Asik got whisked away.

With this young team and the depth he has off the bench I don’t see him killing his players so much, especially when he can go get bench guys he trusts now.

This will be great for KAT, and Wiggins’ defensive work ethic will put him in Thibs’ good books but I worry about Muhammad and Lavine – particularly Lavine.

If Zach can apply his athleticism to the defensive end he could be Thibs’ best player, but there’s a good chance he’ll get benched for defensive lapses that comes with youth and might not reach his potential.

We’ll see what happens but this is a great day to be a Wolves fan.

I’ve considered them my West team since they got four of my favourite draft prospects – Lavine, Wiggins, Towns and Muhammad.

If Minnesota wins a chip under Thibs, I hope everyone remembers to say a prayer of thanks to Flip for assembling this great roster out of the wreckage of Love’s tenure with the team.

Great hire for a team that couldn’t make the playoffs. The question will be whether they can win a championship, but just being a playoff team consistently would be huge for the T’Wolves.

Thibs ran his players into the ground later on, but Chicago was actually known for its bench mob before Asik got whisked away.

Garnett and Thibodeau won a championship together and one ran the defense on the court and the other was in charge as an assistant coach.  Now in Minnesota he has Garnett to mentor some young, long, athletic centers and forwards, and they have some guards to get steals too.  New coach is a good fit, and will improve the defense.

On offense, with Towns and Wiggins they have as much firepower as Chicago ever did.

For those who think he worked the Bulls too hard, and they played too many minutes, those teams won and got into the playoffs and the Bulls now have some players who wish the team still worked the way it did when Thibodeau was there.

An exciting time for Minnesota, but as a person in charge of the roster too, the fans will have to hope his draft choice and other offseason moves work as he is new in that area of the NBA.

It will be interesting to see what sort of role KG has given he played on the Boston team that Thibs looked after the defence on. Tayshaun Prince who played under another excellent defensive coach in Larry Brown is also on the roster and would be the sort of senior pro that Thibs would like.

There seems to be a lot of concern about Lavine and whether he will like playing under Thibs or wants out of the T-Wolves in due course. Lavine is still establishing himself in the NBA and whilst he is a great highlight reel player he doesn’t have the mantle of being a potential superstar like Wiggins/KAT etc. I like Lavine as a starter or as an impact 6th man, he will reasonably be expected to play defence especially under Thibs and if he wants good contracts going forward will need to become an all round player.

There almost seems some thought that Lavine is already a superstar and might move on, he’s a great prospect and exciting to watch. But he’ll know he needs to play consistently to get the good 2nd contract his talent deserves.

Lavine will play.  The Wolves are nowhere near a finished product at this point.  Tibodeau will have to do many of the same things Mitchell did by letting the younger players play through tough times even if it results in a loss.  Lavine is a great piece and is a much better prospect than he is being given credit.  He is a gym rat and with the coaching he will now receive I envision Lavine making nice strides.  There is no way the other players are going to allow him to give less effort than they do.

I think the best move for the Timberwolves moving forward is to trade Rubio and start LaVine at point guard, his natural position. He has been compared to Russell Westbrook, a very valid comparison. He’d develop nicely alongside Wiggins and Towns.

The Timberwolves have enough talent and have alot of cap space for this offseason. They could be players in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, he’d be a fantastic fit in Minnesota.

      PG: LaVine / Jones
SG: Wiggins / Buddy Hield ?
SF: Durant / Shabazz / Prince
      PF: Towns / Payne
      C: Dieng / Garnett

Plus their top 5-6 draft pick in this years draft, they could add another solid piece. This team has a bright future.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch too many Wolves games this past year if you think Lavine’s natural position is point guard. Lavine played his best basketball after the all-star break when Sam Mitchell finally decided to start him at SG alongside Rubio.

Zach sucks at PG. He was so good at the 2 with Ricky. That’s another reason I was ok with letting Mitchell go as coach. He didn’t understand how to use players in situations for them to succeed. His rotations were so bad and his after timeout and end of game plays were horrid (I swear they never got a good shot or even a shot off after a timeout). So happy to get Thibs. Hopefully he used the year off to really improve on some of his flaws he had in CHI. Hasn’t coached in MN yet but already the greatest coach in team history ha.

          Go Wolves!

I think one of the most exciting things about this hire is seeing what happens with Wiggins on defense. He’s been a good defender, but with his athleticism he could be getting 7+ rebounds, 2 steals, and a block a game. He has almost-Kawhi level potential on defense, and hopefully Thibs can cultivate that
