Saw him at the HoopHall Classic down the road in Springfield a few weeks ago. What I came out of it was that this kid can really play.

He showed a lot of versatility. Can get to the rack and finish spectacularly. He’s a pretty good shooter, but what really intrigues me is his mix of passing for a 6’6" guy at the shooting guard position. Reminds me a bit of a young Joe Johnson with his athleticism, ability to get to the rim, ability to stroke it from deep, and a willingness to rebound and get teammates involved.

I didn’t come here to sing his praises, but rather I’m interested as to why he isn’t on any mock drafts anywhere.

What do you guys think of this kid?

My guess would be that it’s such a loaded draft there just isn’t room for everyone in this years draft anyways

he’s still in high school. he’s not draft eligible until 2015. If all the freshmen come out for the draft in 2014 the 2015 draft shouldn’t be that deep.

Very true. Pinson is absolutely an extremely high level talent.  I have seen him play in person at least 5 times, and he can absolutely terroize defenses.  In terms of his strengths, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.  Athelticism, slashing, and a LETHAL outside shot out to very deep range.  Perhaps the most underrated part of his game is his (when he wants to be) he can is an absolute lockdown wing defender.  With long arms, active feet, and a competitive attitude, his defensive ability will absolutely help him both in college and at the pro level.

The real knock on Pinson is his inconsitency.  With a skill set as high level as his, he could (and in theory should) dominate games with much more regularity.  He has a tendancy to sometimes disappear in games against lower levels of competition (sometimes even appearing dissinterested).  A less important knock would be his is a little thin, but at 6’6 and with his stroke I firmly believe he is a 2 guard and not a 3 man.

In terms of his pro potential, I do not see him being ready for the NBA right away, certainly after just 1 year, and maybe even after two.  He will benefit greatly from conditioning, weight program, and certainly coaching points that going to a school like Carolina has to offer.  Through teaching and experience, I could definitely see him sneaking into the 2017 or even 2016 lottery with the type of skills he has.

All that said, Theo is a humble and genuine kid that I wish all the best of success in the future! Go Theo!
