The8thDeadlySinParticipantLots of teams looking to make a trade.. How about this one?
Trade between 76ers and Clippers.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4ab6bltPlayers involved.
76ers recieve:
Chris Kaman
Ryan GomesClippers recieve:
Evan Turner
Andreis Nocioni
Darius Songalia (expiring contract)
1st Round Pick (projected as 17th pick)76ers perspective:
Philly is going to make a run for the playoffs here at the end of the season.. Likey to make the playoffs but not likely to advance.. Their lack of interior presence will be exposed making them pull the trigger on this type of trade. With Collins running the team, they are going to challenge now rather than later. Signing one player should be their top priority.. That man is Thad Young. They are losing these players to the FA class:
J. Kapono
S. Hawes
T. Young
T. BattieTotal money lost will be close to 13 million dollars.. That is going to be very important to re-signing Thad Young. After this trade and before they sign any FAs, their team is:
E. Brand
A. Iguodala
L. Williams
M. Speights
J. Holiday
C. Brackins
J. Meeks
R. Gomes
C. Kaman
1 second round pick projected to be Marshon Brooks. As I have said before, they have to resign Thad Young to make this work. By giving up on Turner, they are putting all faith into Lou Williams and Thad Young to be their bench players to help carry them to the top of the East. Their lineup could be:
PG: Holiday
SG: Meeks
SF: Iguodala
PF: Brand
C: Kaman
B1: Williams
B2: Young
B3: Speights
B4: Gomes/Brooks/BrakinsPairing up the newly revived Brand with his old running mate, Kaman, could help this team out tremendously.. The transition to Kaman would be easier becaue of the history with Brand. To compete in the East, Philly is going to have to do something about their big man situation. Heck, with their money left over, they could probably resign Hawes and bring a 7′ big man off the bench.. However, he isnt the answer for them in the starting lineup. If this trade goes down, it could be enough to push the 76ers to the 4th or 5th spot in the East.. Behind the Bulls, Heat, Magic, and Celtics.. If they would end up playing the Celtics in the playoffs, next year, they would give them the fight for their lives to get to the second round.
Clippers perspective:
Lets face it, the Clipper’s best days are ahead of them.. So why keep Kaman around when he is older and isnt part of your future plan?? He can get you a nice young piece, an expiring contract, a defender and a first round pick?? Do it. The Clippers are losing a nice chunck of money with this FA class:
J. Moon
C. Smith
D. Songalia
B. Cook
D. Jordan
I. DioguTotal money lost is close to 11 million dollars. That is a nice bit of money to use to resign D. Jordan, which is vital to this trade, and their draft picks along with a FA or 2. After the trade but before any FAs, their team is:
M. Williams
B. Griffin
R. Foye
E. Gordon
A. Aminu
E. Bledsoe
W. Warren
E. Turner
A. Noconi
1 first round pick and 2 second round picks projected to be Trey Tompkins, Rick Jackson, and Ravern Johnson.Just like with the 76ers, a resigning is viatal to this trade’s success.. D. Jordan needs to be a top priority for them. Also, Evan Turner is a great fit for this team with his ability to create.. Look at those guards he would be playing with: Williams, great shooter, Gordon, great shooter, Foye, great shooter. They call all play off the ball while he is in the game.. I dont think that he is a starter for this team but he is a great 6th man. Their linup after this could be:
PG: Williams
SG: Gordon
SF: Aminu/Nocioni
PF: Griffin
C: Jordan
B1: Turner
B2Tompkins
B3: Aminu/Nocioni
B4: Bledsoe/Warren/Jackson/JohnsonSure, its not a great team but like I said before, their best days are ahead of them. Why not get a Penny Hardaway type PG/SG to go with your future superstars Gordan and Griffin?? That first round pick could be used to pick a SF too but I just used what ever was projected on this site.. They could even use it, with their other 2 picks to move up and draft higher.. Young talent is the way to go for this team.. Give that group a couple years to develop like the Thunder did and the West had better watch out!! Also, I do think that Turner is best suited to play the point beside Gordon, Griffin, and Jordan.. He could become a fantastic playmaker for this team.
Thanks for reading! Be as harsh as possible.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIn my opinion, this trade is awful for the 76ers. Yes, Kaman might indeed be a nice big man to pair next to Elton Brand, but how does he make them more than a marginal play-off team, which they already pretty much are? I would not give up on Evan Turner yet if I were Philadelphia, he did not translate as quickly to the NBA as many anticipated, but he can fill up a stat sheet and I feel he will improve as time goes on. Not all rookies come in and tear it up, and while Evan has been disappointing by anticipations standards, he by no means was a Hasheem Thabeet. He at least showed he could play a role on the team, and I think it will get better over time.
Also, Kaman’s injury history has to make anyone seriously weary of trading a potentially big time prospect for him. He has constantly been hurt, and while effective when healthy, is he a Center that is going to make a team a legit contender? I think the answer in this case is clearly no. Brand had a great bounce back season, and was at his best with Kaman in LA, but I think they are both at a decline from their peak performing years (Yes, I know Kaman is young, but those injuries add up). If I were Philly, I would stand the course for at least a while longer rather than move last years second pick in the draft for a player who played less than half of the games this season. The 76ers will probably need to address depth in the middle at some point, but I do not think Kaman is the right way to go, especially if they are giving up Evan Turner. Clippers would come out like bandits in my opinion, do not see this going down.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI tried to do a trade earlier involving Evan Turner and the trade was turned down by pretty much everyone on this site. Grant it mine was a little more one sided then yours is, yours still isn’t that good.
Coach Collins should probably be starting Young in my opinion to let him make the rookie mistakes and give him a little more freedom. Also his shot is a little off this year, but I heard the Sixers were going to bring in someone from Ohio State to help him improve his shot. I do not think that Meeks is the Sixers long term plan at SG. I think they are only starting him there now because he is a better shooter than Turner is. But once Turner’s shot improves he will be moved into the starting line up next at the 2 guard causing Meeks to go to the bench and be the 6th man along with Lou Williams.
You never trade #2 pick unless his name is Hasheem Thabeet. This is only Turner’s rookie year, next year he’ll be a sophomore, that’s a little premature to trade him that quickly when you haven’t even really given him time to improve. The Grizzlies didn’t trade Thabeet until late in his sophomore year. Wait a little longer and let’s see if the combo of Turner and Iggy really can work, we really haven’t been able evualate that this year because Turner has been benched.
I expect the 76ers to use their left over cap money to not only resign Thad Young but also bring in a Starting Center that can play a little defense like Nene. If there is still some money left over then the Sixers can resign Hawes, but that is only after their starting defensive center is signed and Thad Young is resigned. They could also trade Iggy for a Center if there is no starting defensive Center available.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantThe reason I have them trading him is because he is the only player of value that doesnt provide much.. Collins has developed a love for Iggy and expect him to carry them.. Now, Young and Williams are a fantastic bench and are more than enough to be the best bench around..
Turner is a great player but I dont think he fits in Philly.. He is never going to be a good shooter because of his inconsistant form.. Also, Iggy needs the ball, Holiday needs the ball, and Brand needs the ball.. Well they are all starters.. Then, your best guard on the bench needs the ball too! There arent enough balls to go around… Turner is best when the ball is in his hands!! I dont blame his slow start on him.. I blame it on his situation.. I think that he is Penny Hardaway 2.0.. However, his trade value isnt high right now and he isnt in a positon to succeed.. The Sixers are a middle aged team and need to win now if they are going to.. Iggy has like 4 years left on his contract so he is there for the haul.. Brand has 3. Most of these guys are under mulitlple year contracts..
In the trade, the Clippers have to take on Noci’s contract, which IMO is one of the worst contracts in the league.. Also, they get a player who was labeld as "NBA ready" and hasnt produced anything.. Also, dont forget that Gomes is a good 3 point shooter and a valuable role player for the Sixers..
Basically, the 76ers are a "now" team and the Clippers are a "later" team.. This trade helps both situations.. Also, I think that aquiring Kaman does make this team a 4th seed in the East… Over the Knicks, Hawks, Bucks, Ect.. They would be a playoff built team because of the vets and athletic ability…

TyroberParticipantWhy do the Clippers need Evan Turner? They get the best player with the most upside but where do they put him.and Why on earth would the Sixers include a first round pick? This trade doesnt make any sense

blink3ebfanParticipantThe trade doesn’t make sense for the sixers. The sixers aren’t going to win a championship as presently constructed and are mired in salary cap hell due to the Iguodala and Brand contract. They have a lot of young pieces to build around in Holiday, Turner, Young, Meeks and Sweet Lou who has a favorable contract. Here’s a counter trade with an explanation.
Sixers Trade
Andre Iguodala
Clippers Trade
Chris Kamen
2013 First Round Pick (unprotected)
The Sixers get a year with Kamen playing alongside Brand while allowing Turner or Young to move into the starting lineup. After that the contract expires and the Sixers have room under the cap to go after what they really need, a star player. Though this team is fun to watch, they have no real shot at a title because they dont have a superstar player. They could help their cause even more by trading Brands contract as well after next season as it will then become one of the more coveted expirings. Moving Iguodala although potentially damaging in the short term, would greatly aid in the future of the franchise.
Projected Lineup
Holiday
Meeks
Turner
Brand
Kamen
Bench: Williams, Young, Nocioni, Speights, Brackins, 1rst and 2nd round picks
The Clippers get the perfect piece that they are missing. Iggys ability to handle the ball from the 3 and get to the hole will really open up the floor for the clips. Hes a very good passer as well so he’d be the perfect compliment to Gordon and Blake. He would take the pressure off of shoting PGs like Mo Will and allow the offense to run smoothly. He also would give them the perimiter lock down defender that they sorely need. He could guard the oppositions best players. He really would be the perfect fit for the Clips and would help them progress at a more rapid pace.
Projected lineup
Williams
Gordon
Iguodala
Griffen
Jordan
Bench: Foye, Aminu, Bledsoe, Gomes, Moon, couple free agent signees

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThis is not a good trade at all, I have my own ideas about moving Turner( more because I think he’s a better all around player than scorer )…my trade idea is a little out there but it goes like this…Evan Turner and Thad Young (S and T) for Danilo Gallinari and JR Smith(S and T) we get two players to spread the floor and score points in bunches, Denver gets An overall team player to play off Lawson/Felton and a hybrid forward like Young to play Sf/Pf( also Thad and Tywon Lawson are great friends) we didn’t extend Young for a very clear reason, he can’t stretch the floor like we need him too, also a Turner for Smith swap would benefit both teams, they need a playmaker we need a pure scoring 2 with size and elite athletism…Philly’s possible lineup …Holiday-Smith-Iguadola-Brand-Hawes-Gallinari(6th man)-Faried(draft pick/defensive stopper/rebounder) Williams, Meeks and Speights( trade bait for 3 point shooter and Center…Reddick and Pryzbilla ??? Also I’d love Jerryd Bayless to backup Holiday…Lou Will for Bayless, Nocioni and Speights for Pryzbilla (S a T) we can keep Meeks for shooting…

apb540ParticipantThat might just be my (realistic) dream trade.

apb540ParticipantNo way would I ever trade Thad and Turner for JR Smith and Galo. That is just stupid beyond belief.
Also, everyone needs to realize that the Sixers are this successful because they play as a team and have great chemistry. Thad and Jrue are boys and I am sure Turner will find his niche on the team in the next year or two. Trading for a dude who spent their offseason in jail two summers ago and another one who can’t speak English is not going to help the chemistry…

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThaddeus Young is gone this summer…how much are you willing to pay a backup sf/pf(even a very good one like Thad) now think about Turner’s best assets to a team(passing, rebounding and defense) all of which Iguadola does at a high level, then ask why we’d trade our best player for Spencer Hawes in a Clippers uniform…We need a scorer at 2 and a Sf/Pf that can stretch the defense and make plays for others(Turner is not a scoring 2 he’s a point forward, Thad cannot stretch the floor and basically drives the lane all game thus making him and Iggy ineffective at times…Gallinari would be the perfect compliment to Iggy, Brand and Faried(our much needed draft choice)…JR would be a great scorer in our lineup, he has defensive ability and has matured greatly over the course of the last two seasons(and Denver ain’t resigning him, that’s the beauty if it…) Turner and Smith switch places, Thad and Gallo switch places…The Nuggets can use Turner and Thad at Sg and Pf( Chandler would play Sf fulltime) Lawson and Young have a close relationship and I’m betting every thing I own when I say Young is as good as gone, sign and trade him for Smith, work Turner and Gallo in the deal and maybe we walk away with Birdman or Driver’s draft pick this year…we need to make a proactive move to get a Scoring Sg, 6th man and defensive stopper(Smith, Gallo and Faried all make perfect sense) moving Lou Will, Nocioni and Speights for a Center like Kaman would be my last move…

apb540ParticipantWhy would we not be able to resign Thad but we could afford both JR’s new deal and Gallo’s extension? Plus you would be relying on being able to move Lou Will and pieces for a starting Center and that might not be very realistic. I don’t want Big Spence starting again next year.
Also, saying that ET isn’t a scoring SG doesn’t make much sense since no one knows what the hell ET is yet.

0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/31/2011 - 9:35am #515816

blink3ebfanParticipantScarecrow, the trade that you proposed makes some sense in the shortterm but it doesnt in the long term and it would just further cement the sixers into mediocrity. We can continue to plug players in and continue to make the playoffs as a 4-7 seed with no chance of winning a championship or we could move our large salaried players as soon as possible before the young players are due for a pay raise and sign a superstar player to go along with the young talented core. No team wins a championship without a star with the possible exception of the Pistons, but they were an exception not the norm and even their squad had certain players that could be considered superstars. The sixers lack that. I was excited when they signed Brand because I thought he could be that player but I forgot to consider that he is past his prime and isn’t the player he used to be.
I don’t like the idea of trading a valubale player such as Iggy for an oft injured, somewhat overrated center, but it helps the sixers get out of his salary and move on with a young core of players that have less expensive contracts. Trading Iggy will also help us resign Young who has the ability to be a really good player in this league and will be only get better with some time. He’s still a very young player and no where near his prime. I’m sure he’ll get an offer sheet somewhere but it would be foolish of the sixers not to match it. He has the most potential on this team and has only begun to tap into it. Hopefully we can sign him to a Lou Will type contract but I think its going to be a little more expensive. 7-8 million per would be reasonable.
All in all, the sixers need to keep the young core together and get rid of Iguodalas and Brands contract if they hope to compete for a championship in the forseeable future. Otherwise they’ll be a decent team with absolutely no chance of winning a championship
