I know this may be out of despite to many Duke fans or non Duke fans, but again IDGAF! The goal of this thread is to know why you hate Duke so much rather then just making it be known without a reason. Uncle Tom thing is old so can we please do away with that!

I HATE Duke because…………..

1. EVERYONE liked them growing up ALWAYS 1 person I came across to say they were a Duke fan.
2. Because they are very prestigious in winning…..I know I know I’m a HATER, but it is what it is!
3. They recruited "system" guys. not going to say uncle tom’s…..I say system guys because it’s true.
4. Jay Williams dominated
5. Jay Williams made my friend who is a Tar Heel fan love him & Duke during Williams 3years. Hell he wore a black Jay Williams Duke jersey faithfully to school.
6. Sean Dockery’s game got shackled down & did not go pro! To good for Duke I still don’t know why he chose them.
7. DeMarcus Nelson did not pan out!
8. Shaun Livingston would have been a Dukie only to be shackled. Would have been a smarter player but worse then what he already displayed in play.
9. Daniel Ewing chose them instead of joining Ford to Texas.
10. Sheldon Williams went Lotto
11. Greg Paulus was similar to Wojo all I thought about was floor slaps
12. Again floor slaps! HATED it!
13. Josh McRoberts #1 recruit and again did not pan out
14. Elliot Williams even considered them…..Thank God he transferred!

 lol, I hated Wojo’s floor slaps too.  They were never a team I could ever relate to or cheer for ( even as a white guy), depsite having immense respect for Coach K.

 Suprised you didnt say anything about J.J Reddick . If I Duke I would most deffiantly hate getting dominated by a player that isnt very tall,not very athletic and can only shoot . I’ve been a Duke fan at birth because of my family ties to the institution and IMHO I think that most fans across the nation have no reason to actually HATE Duke other than some of our cocky players (Redick, Laettner), but I can understand why some UNC fans who actually live in North Carolina despise Duke.

The reason being why is because I’ve started touring some colleges because I’m nearing the end of my highschool career and when I visited Duke….the people there were a bit unfriendly. Not that they were mean or anything just that there was a considerable difference in my interaction with some of the Duke students to some of the UNC students. My guess is that Duke is usually filled with people from the north while UNC has much more local kids going to their school. Also many people I know just have a distaste with Duke because of them being private even though Wake Forest and some other schools are private as well in the area.

Despite all this I’m still a die-hard Duke fan but at the same time I understand why there is some anger towards Duke. I always remember hating the kid who was monikered as the "teacher’s pet" and that does seem to be what Duke is to the NCAA. And in turn NCAA makes it seems like Duke is perfect. ( I HATE DICKY V)

They are by no means perfect, and I kind of hate that they have taken on that persona because it makes it seem like the Duke players are all a bunch of Laettners. The kids at Duke RIGHT NOW are great human beings and are not snooty or cocky (Austin Rivers just has A LOT of swag hopefully he can back it up). I believe a lot of the things Duke players do are blown out of porportion and makes the nation have a negative view on our players. For an example, if Austin Rivers went to UNC he would’ve only recieved a fraction of the back lash he’s recieved for his big mouth, and if Hansborough went to Duke the nation would’ve hated him beyond belief.

Just my 2 cents…I just believe that fandom should never reach the point of hatred.

I do hate the school. Im a Kansas fan so I really cant hate all that much but I do. I guess it was just certain people.

1- Laettner and Cherokee Parks. Dunleavy. JJ Reddick

2- Outside of Jay Williams and Kyrie Irving, I dont remember Johny Dawkins, but every PG I can remember from Hurley until now have all been slow and/or short. Hurley, Wojo, Capel, Nelson, Paulus. And they dont even score that much either. It looks as if Coach K just took some nobody off the streets and thrust him in the lineup and got the best out of his ability if you looked at their stats, but then you remember they were all McDonald AllAmerican top 20 recruits

3- its there aura. I didnt know it then, but for some reason there was something always about NBA GM Billy King and former Mizou coach Quin Snyder, and then I find out that they played for Duke. That was it

4- I could be missing someone but I only remember Grant Hill and Elton Brand actually doing something in the NBA elite. everyone else was drafted high and basically sucked

5- I cant believe Shelden Williams married Candace Parker. Candace is a good looking girl, while Shelden looks like an alien from Star Wars who was with Jaba the Hutt waiting to push Luke into the sand pitt

6- Carlos Boozer aka the unibrow. That guy cheated the then owner of the Cavs and said he wouldnt leave and then left. The owner was blind. Carlos lied to a blind man? Seriously?

 I do agree that some of the anouncers are all over Duke like they are perfect and great and just outstanding. It is too much. I also agree that the NCAA gives them far more national air time then any other program and not just because they have had quality teams for the last 15 years or maybe more. But I still can’t see how people really hate the program. They have good kids, the program seems to be run clean with many of the kids graduating if they don’t go on and go pro instead. The style of basketball that they play is quality with a lot of effort on defense despite often playing guys who only have average quickness for D1 basketball. The coach is obviously a living legend. The fact that a lot of the guys do not go on to be NBA stars just shows you what Coach K is able to get out of them at the college level. Objectively, you have to admit it is a good program and generally it is a good team.

The stomp was coupled with one of the best college shooting performances by a big man ever (20 for 20 between FGs and FTs for 31 points) and it was to win by 1 point. But really it has been over 10 years, to keep hating on a team basically because one guy was a jerk (but also just a great college player) seems strange.
