3 No Biases 3ParticipantI know you could do "What ifs" for every team but I’ll be honest, I’m still dissappointed the Pelicans didnt hang on to Nerlens Noel and their 2014 Draft Pick. I just think it kills them in the future.
Lets just say they still signed Tyreke, stashed Nerlens and played out the season.
While I think Jrue Holiday is good player, I’m not certain hes that much of an upgrade over Tyreke, if at all. Tyreke is only 24 and has averaged 19pts 9ast 8rebs in his last 3 games off the bench. I think he was a victim of a poor environment in Sacramento. I know hes trying to regain his confidence and he doesnt shoot that well but I still believe his potential is similar if not better than Jrue’s is.
They stand 12-14 right now and I think they have a similar record with Tyreke running things instead of Jrue but even if they struggle, now at least they have a 2014 draft pick plus Noel…Their pick is Top 5 protected so they still could get lucky but think if they were able to land Wiggins, Parker, Smart, or later on James Young.
A lineup of: Evans, Gordon, Wiggins (or Parker), Davis, Noel
I know its a pipe dream to get Wiggins or Parker but even if they don’t get them, they still could add a valuable piece later on in the lottery in this deep draft and have a healthy and improved Noel. They would instantly be a special shot blocking duo, (Davis is already leading the league) and Noel compliments both Davis and Anderson very well.
That trade just bugged me then and I was thinking about it again today. I just think they set themselves up for mediocrity or a fringe team, and in the NBA that is the absolute worst. I would have rather taken a chance on sucking again this year and develop Noel, Davis, Gordon, Tyreke, and their potentially high draft pick in the loaded 2014 draft into a possible contender.
I just dont understand why NOLA went in to win now mode. The NBA is all about titles, this core as it is has no title shot and not getting a 2014 pick kills them.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantI think its only a win for Philly…
They will have 2 lottery picks (if Pelicans continue to be around .500), one surely being a top 5, plus a healthy Noel… They could make the playoffs in the East next year with the right draft.
All they got rid of was Jrue Holiday. I know he played well last year but its not like he is an All-Star, granted he was close but NOLA gave up two high potential players (Noel and an early pick in next years loaded class) to get him.
Just never seemed worth it to me…I feel thats a trade you make only if you think Holiday is the missing piece for a title run.

Ebown5ParticipantAs a Sixers fan I can tell you that this was a huge shock for us on draft night. Holliday was our best young player and was improving significantly all the time. We knew that we stunk, but Jrue was the one bright spot.
I grew to accept and like the deal over the summer as it was a clean rebooting of the franchise for us. That was before we knew how good MCW was. Now that he has emerged as possibly an even better prospect than Jrue it is a truely great trade for us.
Hindsight is 20 20 of course, but the Pelicans would have been better off just taking MCW with he 6th pick.
I still think that it will be good in the end for the Pelicans as well since Holiday really is the real deal. He was averaging about 20 points and 8 assists for a lot of last year and then sort of trailed off by the end. As they continue to grow and Davis establishes himself as a superstar I think that Jrue will get back to that level and beyond. He can really do it all.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantI would definitely be excited if I was a Philly fan for next year.
I think Holiday is a solid player, but I think they should have drafted Noel and kept the draft pick.
The Pelicans are winning tonite and again Tyreke is arguably playing better than anybody on the floor. I still wouldve loved to have seen Noel and Davis in the same frontcourt…two hardworking great defenders, two guys who can catch lobs from anywhere, and Davis is more perimeter/ball oriented and Noel is the garbage man.. wouldve been ideal..
Oh well, fun to imagine I guess…I just hate they gave up so much for a guy they may have not even needed.

rileymcshea3ParticipantIt would be hard to get a top pick this year with all of the teams tanking.. As for the trade, I thought It was a great decision building a team around Anthony Davis and getting 15,8, and 4 pg with Holiday and had a trio of Davis,Holiday, and Gordon. 3 allstar caliber players at the age of 25 and younger, with sixth man scoring big man in Ryan Anderson and seemed to be going in the right path. Then all of a sudden they signed Tyreke Evans, and have their 3 best perimeter all 6’5 and under. It just doesn’t seem like a good mix. I feel like they would’ve been far better off trading Anderson for Asik and some how getting Jeff Green out of Boston.
A lineup of
PG- Jrue Holiday
SG-Eric Gordon
SF-Jeff Green
Pf-Anthony Davis
C-Omar Asik

tuck243ParticipantHe shoots 8% from 3 and never won any significant games in his career. A totally selfish player at times that need the ball in his hands in order to be effective. The 6th man role fit him nicely because he can chuck all the shots he wants off the bench. Every ball hog like that is effective off the bench. Look at JR Smith and Jamaal Crawford. Tyreke isn’t the PG that Jrue is, don’t let a week of games tell you different. I didn’t know which person was worse leading Sac all these years, Tyreke Evans or DeMarcus Cousins. Both are talented bums, which sounds dumb as hell, but fit them perfectly.
