I was talking to my stepdad and he said if John Wall fulfills his potential he could be the next Gary Payton. Idk I see some similarities.

what do you guys think about that and do see another player who could be that great on defense and still be a great all around point guard like gary was.

I think Wall will be a better overall scorer. Payton didn’t have a great jumper. He was more of a post PG.

I think Jrue Holiday could be the next Gary Payton. John Wall? He could be a better Rajon Rondo

I think Brandon Knight, who will be at Kentucky next year, will be the next Gary Payton

I don’t think it’s possible for a player to try to develop a attitude like Gary Payton’s. His joy in life was not letting people score. I like Jrue Holiday and think he is great on defence but he will never get an attitude like Payton.

Minus the swagger….Kids these days do not like playing D or letting people know they can play D….They think it puts a target on their back…”Cross Me Over Please”…GP was respected by the refs and they let him play guys hard…If Jrue can gain the Respect of the refs…he’ll get that swagger too….I think JRue will have a great career…he can be a Hall Of Famer PG if he can get that team moving …6’4…Good body…good moves…great vision…great D…Good shot…Can post the smaller guards ala Payton if he wants to…He was a Steal….I’m willing to wait on him,Turner and Thad…Speights and Iggy can become better with Turner and Holiday backcourt Too…We need Some other pieces…Like a Center and true Shooter…

He shut down everyone of those pg’s drafted in front of him…He had a Ball Hog like Williams stealing his time…When he played he was getting near triple dips nightly…Get him a Shooter and Post Player(Henry and Cousins…Start Speights and run Brand out of town…He’ll be the best PG of this class…BB Wise…He will never be as flashy as Curry or BJ but he will be better Than Ricky Rubio will ever be…Those guys will get the Pub, Jrue will get the snubs…But they’ll never score a dub…

haha I didn’t know this would create a good topic. But I like Jrue Holiday but like someone said, no one has that GP the glove attitude. Jrue has the skills but I mean he doesn’t have the swagger from what i’ve seen and heard, he’s kind of quiet.

I think Wall and Payton are similar in terms of their build and size, but Wall is far more gifted physically. I recall Payton’s offense consisting of finger rolls and slowly backing down shorter PGs to shoot fadeaway jumpers. Not much above the rim.

Now, of course that has nothing to do with how good Wall will be, but Wall’s ceiling is much higher. With that in mind, he will need to work on his game quite a bit to get to Payton’s status.
