OhCanada-ParticipantIts very interesting to watch Gentry try to make it work in New Orleans. The Pelicans have the luxary of almost always having one of Davis or Cousins on the floor at a time. They also have decent role players with Twaan Moore, Motie, Hill, and Frazier but no real team identity and in the early stages no real designation of who is taking on which role at this time. They have alot of work to do.
The Pelicans have gotten off to a bad start so far losing each game so far and finding themselves 4 games back from 8th place. Last night they played a bit better than the other two games yet they showed no abillity to collectively defend and Cousins got his 16th technical resulting in a suspension for thier next game and was ejected from the game.
The short term schedule isnt looking good either. I dont think they have the mental toughness to bounce back if they dont win at least 2 of these next games.
Detroit on Wednesday without Cousins.
San Antonio.
LA Lakers on the road.
Utah Jazz on the road.
Toronto Raptors at home.
Its really important that they make the playoffs this year or recruiting will be very difficult in the offseason. They dont have alot of money, or assets to improve the team.

markfitz14ParticipantI was shocked to see NO wanted to put Boogie next to the Brow. This league is all about guards and wings. I just don’t see why you would want to try to over power teams with two bigs. This isn’t 1985.

frogmanParticipantProbably because Westbrook, Curry, Harden and Derozan have a combined 0% chance of going to New Orleans to play.

SubZeroParticipantOnly today would someone say having 2 guys who are best at their position and both top 10 players a bad thing

OhCanada-ParticipantThey arent really best at thier position though. Ill take Draymond Green at either position anyday. Thats all fan rankings based on skill and stats. They maybe the most talented that I will give them but they dont close out games. They arent mentally tough. They are pancakes.
Could they be best at thier position? Yes. Im sure if you put AD on San Antonio or Cousins on Cleveland they would develop that mentality and have thier talent match thier winning abillity. As of right now theu arent winners. These guys find ways to lose games and they will continue to.

SubZeroParticipantIf we were starting franchises, I’d gladly let you take Draymond and I’ll keep AD. No doubt Draymond is a great player on Golden State, but I’m very curious to see him on a team when he’s the best player and not surrounded by All Stars. No way he does what AD does on a bad team

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe Spurs are 45-13 in this NBA, and none of their starters have missed fewer than 5 games. Utah is the 4-seed and Memphis is the 6. The league is not monolithic.
If you don’t have LeBron or the unique Warriors roster, then why assemble build your team to be a lesser version of them? I don’t know if what New Orleans is doing will work, but I know trying to be a cheap knockoff of Golden State or Cleveland won’t. Even if you are half-way decent at it (and New Orleans wasn’t even half-way decent at smallball), you will eventually run into the real thing. If they can build with Davis and Cousins, maybe they will eventually have something that gives Golden State fits. It won’t happen overnight, or maybe even in this coming offseason, but they have at least one committed party in Davis.

HeroescantdieParticipantThey need playmaking guard beside holiday that can shoot the 3, also they need to upgrade their wings, AD and DC will clog the paint and the attention of the defense will focus solely on them, although they can hit the 3 consistently, they need a playmaker that is a threat from the outside
