Bmore_DCParticipantIts obvious the Nets are in a bad place, financially and talent-wise. Doesnt it seem like the only way to get out of this is to trade Brook Lopez? His contract is big and everybody wants him. The perfect suitor i can think of is Boston. If the Celts cant land Cousins like they are hoping, why not go after Lopez? Hes a beast on offense and defense, and fills the big-man void the Celts are lacking.
I dont do many trade ideas but what about a package of picks, Lee/Amir, Crowder, Smart, and Olynyck? If im the Nets, i would do this in a hearbeat.

llperezBrooklyn is in a rough spot for sure, they are still paying dwill. But joe johnsons contract comes off the boards after this year then the only 2 big contrats on the whle roster will be brook lopez 21 million per for next 2 years and thad young’s 13 million per for next 3 years so I don’t think they are in that bad a spot financially going forward. They also don’t have their upcoming draft pick which hurts because it will be high. the deal you proposed aint bad, basically would you trade brook for smart, olynick and the rights to keep your own lotto pick back from boston or do you try and build around lopez and hope you can bring some talent in through free agency? Tough call, history tells us whoever gives up the best individual player in a deal usually loses. I probably hold onto brook myself, easier to build around a legit all-star vs lots of good players.

Bmore_DCParticipantYea i see your point. I think im just a fan of Bostons young players they could package, and the Nets just need cheap assets and picks at this point IMO. I donno if Thad Young and Lopez are franchise cornerstones you want to bank on. But youre right, Johnsons deal comes off the books and i guess DWill’s comes off soon as well? Im not sure.

BleedGreen808ParticipantThat would be getting rid of our two best defenders and Crowder is the heart of the team. The team is 2nd in defensive rating behind only the Spurs and this trade would weaken the defense dramatically. Olynyk is also important with his ability to pick and pop/roll as well as spreading the floor for drive and kicks. Your trade also leaves Boston with only Evan Turner and James Young at SF.

Bmore_DCParticipantI understand that but youre going to have to give up a combo of those players if you want the star big-guy ainge is looking for. Trust me, if it was me, id keep the young players boston has and keep building. Im just saying, its obvious Ainge wants a solid big, and a combo of Rozier, Young, etc. wont get that done.

BleedGreen808ParticipantTrue but right now Boston is rolling sitting 3rd in the East and those three players are some of the most important players along with IT and AB. Without Smart, Crowder, and Olynyk I feel like all the momentum the team has right now would be gone. It would be taking a big step back in the culture Stevens is building this season.

NBAjunkie81Participantthat deal…. the Celtics have some great chemistry going on right now…. I would Not mess w/ that….. Play out the year, let them battle in the playoffs….. Maybe they win a round or even two…. That puts them in the Eastern Conference Finals….
They end the season w/ great momentum heading into the June 2016 Draft Lottery where they own the Brooklyn Nets pick & 2 other 1st round picks…. perhaps they get Bender or Ellenson or even Labissiere (who still has outstanding long term potential) in the Draft…. Now they have a nice Big in the middle to develop & they did not give up anything….. the C’s have 2 other late 1st round picks….
There is no trade Boston can make that puts them in a Title race this year….. so patience is the key, play the long game & keep loading up on talent….

bigmandinkyParticipantThis is an intersting possibility for Boston because giving the Nets young prospects mean Brooklyn would likely continue to be bad these next few years as they try to build a young core, as opposed to keeping Brook and overpaying for some starters this offseason so they can go for a low playoff seed. AKA better BKN picks.
However, Boston cannot give up Crowder or any BNK picks in this deal. Those are too valuable short and long term. I also don’t see them giving up Smart – but that might be the deal breaker for BKN.
Bradley + Filler (Lee) + Prospects (Rozier, Hunter, Young) + Multiple First Rounders for Brook
That is definintely an intersting deal, however.

publius2481ParticipantFirst, the Celtics are overpaying if they give up Crowder, Olynyck, Smart, and picks (especially if you are talking multiple first round picks) for Lopez (especially given his injury concerns). Second, it increases Brooklyn’s depth, so this trade I think would help the Nets win more games (not in Boston’s interest).
