Looks like Im not the only Aussie who is prepared to make bold statements.

This quote will be etched in history as a key turning point towards the ending of amatuerism and student athletes.

Some of you old men will be nostalgic for College Hoops and wont want things to change.

Yet the next generation of ballers cares a lot  about what Ben Simmons thinks…and are reconsidering going to college as we speak. Anyone seen what Thon Maker and Dante Exum have done? They’re millions of dollars richer as a result of not going to college.

The NCAA is in damage control, and has clearly asked all the chroney journalists to condemn Ben Simmons in various media reports.

Expect more and more high profile prospects to use Simmons documentary as a platform to initiate change. Most likely through boycotting the NCAA.

The NCAA is really F****d up!

Ben Simmons comes off as a spoiled brat.. What Ben Simmons doesnt realize is that if you start paying college athletes they will start becoming targets to extortion or bs of that nature.. Example just look at Derrick Rose recently.. These guys are well taken care of under the table, Ive been told stories by players who Ive known and worked with tell me about coaches dropping cash off or ADs taking care of em.. Ive watched personally a very well known player in the NBA then in college at the time.. Walk into a Walmart to recieve funds from a booster via western union

The guys im worried about are the 4 year mid major guys bustin ass to play ball and go to school.. Not Ben Simmons

Americans hate Simmons. They wanna hype him up and publicize him, just so they can shoot him down. Its how it works with fans there. Great players get boo’d

Jordan, Kareem, Wilt, Lebron, Kobe. All universally loathed at stages of their careers.

In other countries, fans go wild for all the best players and would never boo them.

Simmons will be targeted by cynical american fans and media who feel threatened that a flashy new prodigy can whoop them so bad on the court.

Now KD and GSW are hated. Before the Cavs and Heat. Its just like everyone there just forms a universal hate rally against great players for no apparent reason.

Lol…I dont know why everyone gives me a hard time about my schtick. I learned how fickle and easily manipulated American fans are growing up watching professional wrestling and NBA. Theyre drawn to controversy and can change their perception of something on a whim…without logical justification.

To make something interesting, you need heros and villain. Even the Bible has the devil. Trumps going for president…and hes the king of creating outrage. Its good for business.

So keep my forum-leading volume of replies coming, and just chalk todays thread as just another entertaining piece from the resident draftnet Bad Guy.

There is ALWAYS a reason players are hated; it’s not just simply because they are good. LeBron was hated because he made a promise to Cleveland, that he would bring a championship there. And then left to make a super team in Miami.  Not only that, he did it a the most arrogant way possible by having a one-hour televised special on ESPN for a free agency decision.  And then followed it by saying they would likely win 7+ titles at the big three’s introduction event Miami had.  Especially for Cleveland, and really all basketball fans, that’s a pretty good reason to dislike someone regardless of how good they are.

And it’s the same with KD.  No one really likes when a great player leaves to join with other great players.  Granted, he did it in a lot better fashion than LeBron, but went to what is a lot better team than what LeBron went to.  And people hate the fact that he went to the team that beat him in the playoffs.

And with Kobe, he had the sexual assault case.  And if that’s not a good reason to dislike someone then I don’t know what is.  Not only that, but Kobe has one of the biggest egos in NBA history, and that can often rub people the wrong way.

With Simmons, if you watch a lot of his games at LSU, you could see him shut down when things weren’t going his way on the court.  When things on offense were bad, he didn’t use that as motivation to get a stop on defense, he would take the defensive possession off. And then he even admitted that he rarely went to class, which is ridiculous when you are supposed to be a student-athlete; even if you plan on being a one-and-done.

In my opinion, those are all fair reasons to dislike those players.  All of those players are great, or in Simmons’ case, the potential to be great.  Sports fans don’t dislike greatness, from individuals or teams.  They’re what make sports great!  But a lot of the time people don’t like the way a team got to be so good.  People like or at least respect teams like the Spurs or GSW because they built the core of their team through the draft.  Guys like Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Curry, Thompson, and Green were all draft picks.  Not just superstart free agent pick-ups to create an instant super team.  People respect the grind.  That’s why GSW is so disliked this year compared to the last few now that they signed KD.  GSW was so well-liked their championship run because they built that, and that’s they haven’t been that successful for a long time.  People get sick of seeing the same people or teams winning all the time.  I think American’s like seeing underdogs come out on top more than seeing greatness fail.

Get out of here with that. Sure the NCAA has it’s issues and maybe its good that Simmons is bringing them to the forefront but your blanket statements about American fans have no place here.

"In other countries, fans go wild for all the best players and would never boo them." So those sounds Kyrgios was hearing at the Australian Open this year weren’t boos?

The NCAA makes money of top HS stars and the NBA players association is happy because these stud players are still one year away from taking a vets spot on a roster and the NBA owners association loves it because the players come into the NBA with a name. They don’t even have to work to build up the Wiggins, Parkers, Embiids ect

Fact is, you are a US adult at 18. There is no moral reason to keep these top players out of the NBA.

Make a rule that you can either A) go to the NBA from HS or B) Go to college for a minimum of 3 years. Everyone wins with that except NCAA marketers and they are making billions so who cares?

If the NCAA paid players for bringing in the audience and advertisements, they’d have to wait until they graduated to pay them… or officially left school. That would stop some extortion issues. Also, you shouldn’t live in a castle while your friends share a room with two others in the dorms. If they got a small stipend for basic living, that’d be fine. They bring the audience and some of the college greats will never play pro ball or do much else. It would also make staying in college for longer more attractive.

What happened to you, Hype Machine? You used to have some of the best posts on here. Now all you do is post insults about Americans, saying that we hate on Australian players and super teams for no reason. Of course I’m not going to cheer for the super teams! I’m cheering for the 76ers regardless of who’s on the other 29 teams.

Can you please leave your racist comments about Americans off this site? Sure, America isn’t perfect. But if you really feel the need to bash our country, go do it on some political website, not on NBAdraft.net.

It is a slippery slope when you get into the idea of paying college athletes because who determines what compensation athletes should be entitled to? They are already getting full athletic scholarships to schools that many otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to go to. What about the athletes that play sports that don’t generate a ton of income for the school and NCAA? Do they get paid the same amount as basketball and football players? It seems like they would have to. Do walk ons get the same as scholarship players? It just doesn’t seem there is really a fair way to accomplish this and no matter what there will be those who are unhappy.

As far as the age limit rule, I absolutely agree with Simmons that it’s ridiculous and I’ve said as much from the beginning. If a player believes he is ready for the NBA after high school and a team is willing to draft him there is absolutely no reason he should be forced to go to school for a year. It just seems like it was put in place to protect gms from making bad decisions.

I have to say that the age limit rule is a product of the NBA (not the NCAA) so Simmons criticism may be somewhat undirected on this one. Even if the NCAA ultimately benefits, they arent the ones making the rule. Also, if Simmons really didn’t want to go to college, he didn’t necessarily have to. There are other avenues he could have explored and he would have likely been the first pick in the draft no matter what.

NBA teams should be able to draft a kid at any age, but the kid shouldn’t be able to play in the NBA until he is 19.

Can you imagine how entertaining that would be!  Watching the 76ers draft a 6th grade 6’6" center.  Only to have him not grow the next 6 years.  Make tons of money and then flame out!

Students get paid.  NBA game isn’t ruined (even though we all know the rule is only to protect stupid organizations from shooting themself in the face).  Everybody wins.  The draft instantly becomes the most fascinating and potentially depressing event in all of sports.

even if they aired it for free, I’d still find a way to pay them.

What it looks like from my perspective, is that the more haters you have, the more successful you must be.

The silent majority respects Ben Simmons, yet low rate media hacks like Jeff Eisenberg (yahoo) make a living from trying to sabotage the cred of guys like Simmons.

Yahoo has the worst basketball coverage on the internet. Its a terrible product.

"What it looks like from my perspective, is that the more haters you have, the more successful you must be." This is simply not true. When everyone around you calls you a jerk, the locial thought is "maybe I am being a jerk." The illogical response is going all Kanye on it and thinking "I’m greatness they don’t understand."

We understand what you are saying. It isn’t thoughtful, witty, or entertaining. It is just insulting.

(Yes, I agree Yahoo Bball is terrible)
