luol deng of course. 17 and 7 last year. 1 of 8 players in the league 25 or under to average that. He is a great third option on offense and a underrated defender. He is one of the top defenders in the league. everybody rags on his contract being bad but it only runs into his prime. it stops when he is 29/30. If he was to stay healthy these past couple years no one would be running there mouth about overpaid. i think his 41 tonight clears up some of these negative thoughts.

kobe said he wouldnt go to chicago if deng was be included in the trade.

I think he’s underrated because he’s overpaid, as strange as that sounds. Since fans are always &$#%#&@! about his contract, I think people tend to assume he sucks. When really, he is a very good all-around player, who any team would love to have(just not at that price).

And of course as a Duke fan I like him.

Deng is the epitome of average in the NBA. He can do many things, but the only thing he consistently does is hits midrange jumpshots. I think he needs to either add strength and become more of a defensive stopper for the bulls.. or develop a better handle so derrick rose can play off the ball occasionally.

Luis Scola is the most underated, underutilized, underpaid, underappreciated and underpublicized player in the NBA byfar and noone can ever tell me otherwise.

Averaging 17 and 7 is not average. I agree though, that contract confused alot of things. But Deng has always been a good player. We in Chicago expected better out of him though. At one point, we thought he’d be an all-star. So maybe thats why people get down on him from time to time. But he is a good 3rd option scorer. Also, I would agree, Luis Scola is criminally underrated! I dont understand how he doesnt get more love than what he does. Yea, Luis Scola is by far the most underrated, with Deng coming in 2nd.

One thing that frustrates me is how Deng demanded more money than what he should have earned… I don’t understand how he could have turned down that $50 Million dollar offer from the Bulls… That’s a lot of money as far as I’m concerned considering he’s nowhere near the level of LBJ or Wade… His ridiculous contract is worth up to $80 Million… He deserved some scrutiny from us fans because he really doesn’t deserve that big of a contract but Deng has always proven himself as an all-around player who just needs to play consistent basketball… Yes, he lit up 40 but who knows, by the next game he might just end up with 4…

I agree that Scola is the most underrated or maybe Jeff Green but I can’t stand people who hate on Deng…..he’s one of the better wing defenders in the league and never gets the cred for it….

Scola gets over looked because he isn’t athletic and isn’t particularly graceful.  But he has nice post moves, hook shots, scoop shots and is automatic from 18 feet.

Agreed, Luol is making too much money, but he is a nice player who I feel fits in with the Bulls, probably one of the best mid-range games in the league right now.

Deng is pretty underrated. I agree with anyone who says Scola is the most underrated though.

Deng is a very good all-around player who does a little of everything well, but he’s not great at anything other than that 20 foot shot. He’s not a true scorer because he plays with too high a center of gravity to create off the dribble consistently, and although he’s a good defender he’s no lockdown guy. He’s a 3rd or (if you have elite scorers) 4th option scorer, but I’d love to have him on my team no question.

i started this post and i was the one who said he is too african to guard lebron james.

17 and 7 is very good at his age.      the main reason he is underrated is because of injuries. people wouldnt be saying shit about his contract if he stayed healthy. He is that good. I’ve seen him shut down paul pierce in person before. He is lock down. of course no one can guard lebron especially when he takes three steps

and he shot 37% percent last year from three. thats a great percentage. he is just not a volume shooter out there

ok i’ve had enough of talks about Shane Battier being underrated…yeah he plays solid defense but he isn’t a lights out shooter and keep in mind he was traded for Rudy Gay…never been a fan even though he is a classy hard-working guy…hes just not that good and a lot of people seem to fear admitting that because its a common opinion that Battier is super underappreciated and all that but truth is, he is like an 8 ppg, 4 rpg type guy in 22 minutes

He plays more than solid defense. He is one of the best defenders in the league and defends Kobe as well as anyone. His value isn’t in scoring. I agree that he isn’t underrated, but he is very good at what he does and he is a pretty good 3-point shooter.

I fully agree with Marcusfizer, Deng is too inconsitent to be underrated, sure he is a good basketball player and averages 17 and 7 and lit the Blazers up for 40 but until he can prove to be consistent enough to back up his contract, people will complain about it, especially fans. One night he wont miss then the next night he wont make a shot, I understand even professionals have off nights but great/good players are consistent and constantly work on their game to remain consistent, Deng seems just fine with being medioce in terms of being content with his skill other then working on his game and becoming an All star talent that he has the potential to become in my eyes. All the talent is there, he just needs to put it together.

still say Pau Gasol, everyone gives Kobe all the love but all this guy does is average 25ppg,11reb,5asts,1blk. I mean, he is the most skilled player in the league and for me a top 5 player, he does everything. I know he’s an all-star but people dont’ appreciate him enough.

How is Pau Gasol the most underrated if he is accepted as the best PF and quite possibly the best C.

Besides Scola, Ellis is extremely underrated. He shouldve been on team USA long before alot of those guys.
