The Magic are one of the most disrespectful franchises in the NBA…They give anyone a jersey #, with no form of respect for the past great players they had…First Penny Hardaway donned #1 for them, then McGrady wore #1, then mad other players wore #1, now Tobias Harris who just got traded there is wearing #12, when Dwight Howard use to wear #12 for them…smh They don’t have any consideration to retire their great players #’s…smh

Should Penny’s number be retired? He spent 6 seasons with the Magic, and he was hurt for a couple of them. And T-Mac was only there four season. Let whoever wants it wear #1. Same with #12. Same with #32. Same with #33.

When they get a great player who is actually willing and able to play there, then we can talk about retiring numbers.

Penny had a very short peak. Dwight Howard is still active.

I’d like to amend, that a team should never retire the number of a player who whined his way off of the team.

The Lakers would never let anyone else wear #8 even though Kobe doesn’t wear it anymore and he’s still active…Alonzo Mourning didn’t play that much with the Heat, but yet his jersey is retired…Doesn’t matter, once a great player played for your franchise, their # should be put up…Especially on a small market team like the Magic who come around a superstar player every couple of years…Freaking Bruce Bowen’s jersey is in the rafters in San Antonio

That other teams will retire numbers at the drop of a hat doesn’t make it the right way to do things.

Alonzo Mourning played 11 seasons with the Miami Heat during which time he was on the All-NBA first team, the All-NBA second team, defensive player of the year twice, and he was on the all-defensive first team twice. So I don’t know what you’re talking about saying Zo didn’t play much with the Heat.

I don’t think teams “make” players wear numbers. The #23 is cliche at this point anyway, I don’t see many young guys wanting to wear it.

The Suns Alvin Adams allowed Grant Hill to wear his #33 when he came to town out of respect for Grant despide the number was in their ring of fire.

Also do you expect the Lakers to retire #24 and #8? I kind of hate the fact that Kobe changed numbers half way through his career, I think it’d be great if he went back to #8 for his last few seasons.

Last few seasons he doesn’t have that many left he’ll be 35 in the off season.

Magic shouldn’t let anyone wear Nick Anderson’s number the rest not sure.

Penny was pretty awesome well for 4 of those years.

If they didn’t let anyone where his number that would be nice.

Howard I doubt they care much about even if they went to the Finals in 09 the whole situation last year didn’t go well.

Your argument of ” Doesn’t matter, once a great player played for your franchise, their # should be put up” is quite absurd. I am guessing you would have the Suns, Cavs, and Celtics should retire Shaq’s number then.

Yes and also the Wizards need to retire Michael Jordan’s number. If nothing else for drafting Kwame Brown over Eddy Curry (see sometimes there is a positive to Kwame sometimes)

I feel until the number is officially retired any player has the right to wear it if they choose. But out of respect some numbers shouldn’t be worn again. MJ’s time with the Wizards wasn’t the greatest but the fact the the GOAT played for that franchise for a few years, out of respect no one should wear it whether they retire it or not.
