OKC showed that 3 great drafts is enough to turn around a franchise. I’m actually intrigued to see what the 76ers. They will get a top 4 pick again. That leaves them with the pick, Okafor, Embiid, Noel and Saric.

You would have to imagine that Okafor Embiid and Noel will not all be there at the start of next year. I’d imagine that Embiid is a must keep, as they drafted him knowing that they’re losing him for a year (which turned to two). So the question is, if they trade Okafor and Noel, would they get enough value in return to make this entire process worth it? My hunch says no.

I also don’t understand why in a rebuild, they wouldn’t draft assets to keep them. Drafting Smart and Warren, would look a lot better today, then the 2 guys that have never played a day in the league. Those 2 guys were locks to be in the league for 10+ years the day they were drafted (barring injuries) based on their skillsets at the time.

Curious to see what Colangelo has up his sleeve

Next year is way too early for a trade of their frontcourt prospects. You are looking at the 2017-2018 season for that D-day. BTW, the trade talk is only predicated on Embiid’s health. If Embiid is healthy, Okafor is the odd man out in that scenario. He is too impactful for the bench, but not more impactful overall than either Noel or a healthy Embiid in their coming primes. I know everyone is in love (and rightfully so) with Ish Smith right now, but I still firmly believe the Sixers should draft Dunn in the event they get the Lakers’ pick, or they miss out on Simmons AND Ingram. Dunn would just give them even more defensive versatility than they have with Noel and Embiid.

You need more than two bigs. Embiid can play with either Okafor or Nerlens because Embiid can shoot and play the four. Guys like Smart don’t make us any better. The guy is an average roll player on a mediocre team. Embiid is going to be a star. People make a big deal about sitting two years. He has become a much better shooter and it’s like he’s coming out after junior year as a fully polished player than if he came after freshman year when he did as a bit of a project.

I’m so much happier with Embiid than if we took Dante Exum and his four points per game.

I believe we’ll end up with Simmons at 1 and Dunn at four (with the Lakers pick). Also wouldn’t be shocked if Hinkie traded one of Noel, Okafor or Saric. It’s not a horrible situation to end up with Ingram or Dunn and get our SF or PG then find the other position in free agency and find a few SGs or SFs with the Heat and Thunder picks.

A nameless NBA exec just gave an interview, addressing the Noel, Okafor, and Embiid issue. He said they will likely have to trade one of them before next year and that Okafor would be the one they’d want to move (Hoops Rumors article). Sam Hinkie isn’t all that predictable though. The GM’s argument was that Noel with Okafor doesn’t work defensively of offensively and Embiid with Okafor wouldn’t work defensively. The GM was even a little concerned that while Embiid could help spread the floor, defensively Noel can’t handle PF’s, especially during small ball (I’m not sure I agree).

If they do trade Okafor, what would they get? I read an article that suggested they trade Noel for Schroeder or Marcus Smart. If it was Okafor, they could get more, right? I like the idea of Schroeder because they could let him loose (finally). He makes things happen: something that’s missing for them. That article suggested Al Horford might walk this year needs replacing (I’m not so sure). I do like Schroeder for them though. I’m not wild about this draft class’ PG’s. If they got the Laker pick, I’d like to see Jamal Murray or Buddy Hield. Add that to Simmons or Ingram and it’s a team worth looking at.

That is a good trade Schroder for Oak if ATL can add something else in like a pick or another player.

Considering how favourable rookie contracts are, in addition to the decent quality of play these guys have demonstrated in their short careers, you would get a borderline all-star.

I think someone of Gordan Haywards ability at the wing…..or Ty Lawson, Eric Bledsoe or Kyle Lowry at PG. Not saying these guys are on the trade block….just examples.

Someone in the top 5 to 10 in their respective positions, since I ultimately feel thats the level these 2 guys will produce.

Thing is I cant see them moving Okafor without having seen Embiid in a professional game in like 2.5 years (once next season starts). Even though Im not that fond of Okafor (low shooting percentage for a big man both at Duke and in Philly + sub-par rebounder at the moment) you dont trade a guy with that much potential unless you are sure of one of two things:

    1) The guy thats replacing him (Embiid in this case) has proven to be more productive or have more upside

    2) You get a game changer in return that has his potential or production level of his potential.

Never understood why people think that Joel Embiid is going to magically come back to the game of basketball without playing for 2 years and be ready to be a good big man in today’s NBA. I just don’t see that happening.
