1 Darko over Melo/Wade.

2.Resigning an aging Core of Veterens

3. Committing roughly 70mill to two role players & believing RStuckey can be your effective starting SG. He is below avg @ either position PG or SG   

Ownership wants to contend. However, this Current Pistons Rosters is devoid of any semblance of Contending, Now or Next Year. Their is an offer for the 8th pick from the Rockets for the 14 & 23rd pick. I would take those picks in a heartbeat and trade one of those picks and RIP to the Cavs for 14mill TPE. And just play hard & end up with one of the worst records in the L.

They have decent Role players that could help a SuperStar. But that SuperStar will be in the 2012 draft. On Thursday Detroit should start the Rebuilding process.

decade blunders are tough to overcome.  if your fanbase will allow sometimes it is best to ride out out the mistakes and start over.

but I do think you need stars.  maybe one can say with 2 picks you double the chances of landing a star but I kind of think they will have a better chance of landing a star at #8 then later.  anyway the NBA is a tough place to dig out of a hole.

Monroe is not assertive enough offensively to be a 20PPG scorer, let alone a superstar. He’s at best a good all around Center at 15PPG 10RPG 3-4APG.

I can’t honestly see how Detroit made the moves they made and got that team so crowded at key positions. It’s like a parent giving you alot of cash and saying don’t spend it all in the same place, YEA, guess what Detroit did. Ben Gordon, Rodney Stuckey, Charlie Villanueva, Tracy McGrady. Don’t be teasing me with this deal…….. they better do it. I would take Singleton and Faried in a heartbeat with those picks. Big motor, high energy hardworkers who play defence.  Championships are built with defence and toughness, not pansy ball hogs like Villenauve and Gordon

Singleton and Faried with Monroe sounds really, really interesting. That could be a dominant defensive team.  They really need to work something out with that backcourt though. I think Stuckney is a 2, not a 1, which leaves them 3 deep at the 2 with no 1.

The Pistons aren’t in as bad a shape as everyone makes them out to be.

Drafting Darko would have actually benefited this team a lot if they were able to keep him, because for the past two seasons the Pistons best interior defender and starting center was sadly the aging 36 year old Ben Wallace, who had a slew of injuries this season and only started 49 games on his way to future retirment in Detroit. Darko is now one of the top 5 shot blockers in the league, while the Pistons were last in blocks this season.

Blame that one on managment for not being willing to pay Darko unlike Minnesota.

Greg Monroe is a PF/C who plays Power Forward better. When the Pistons play Greg Monroe at center, they’re forced to play Chris Wilcox, Jason Maxiell, Tayshaun Prince, and even Charlie V at PF. As a result, the Pistons were dead last in rebounds, 14 less than the second worst rebounding team in the league this season, the Boston Celtics.

The only player from the old Pistons core of veterans who they resigned was Rip Hammilton, who the Pistons have been trying to move and almost did, but the Pistons owner died, his wife took control of the team and for over a year they were in limbo, making no moves. Thanks to the problems with coaches in Detroit for the past few years, Rip Hammilton changed from coming off screens in Detroit with Chauncey to coming off the bench behind A.I. and Stuckey and shooting 3 point shots.

The Pistons were not willing to resign their whole veteran core, note the departures of Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, and Ben Wallace (before he came back for less money). With the news that Tayshaun Prince will probably leave in free agency, that makes Rip the only player from that veteran core who was resigned.

Signing Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva got a lot of hate, but while they’re not great defensive players, they can be extremely valuable on offense. Since they’ve come to Detroit, they’ve been used as a bench unit to come in and shoot 3 point shots among other things (the Pistons had the 6th highest 3 point percentage this season). Players like these have a lot of value in the league still and Charlie V was actually signed for less money than was projected when he hit free agency. Ben Gordon is getting starter money and will likely replace Rip when and if he is finally moved.

Stuckey is a great young player who is more of a combo guard that slashes and gets to the rim. He shoots a high FT% and is a physical defender who has great size to match up with the bigger PGs of the league today. He gets a lot of hate also but I think he’s developing into a great NBA guard. The last two seasons saw injuries for Stuckey but at 24 years old, he will be an important piece of the rebuilding Pistons, as he is going to be resigned.

I think the problem with the Pistons was a mix of a lack of rebounding and defense inside the paint along with a few horrible coaching jobs from Coach Kuester and Curry. Under Coach Kuester, the Pistons were a jump shooting team running a late shot clock iso offense with very little passing involved (the Pistons had the 2nd fewest turnovers in the league), and it didn’t help that the veterans of the team didn’t respect Coach Kuester at all. Let’s not even talk about the defense under Kuester, while he was given a horrible situation on defense, he was always more of an offensive coach and seemingly didn’t care about defense at all.

 

With all that being said, I’ve been hearing that the Pistons will wait and see who is available at the 8th pick before making any trades. If the Pistons can get Valanciunias I think they will take him. Remember last year, the Pistons were not prepared for Greg Monroe to fall to them at the 7th pick and drafted him without ever working him out or interviewing him. If there’s nothing good for the Pistons at the 8th spot, I think they will make a deal. I don’t think trading Rip and the 8th pick would lead to this team tanking, if anything it would have to be more injuries to the Pistons roster like the last couple of years which I don’t see happening. This Pistons team is far from as terrible as the other bottom dwellers of the NBA who had a reasonably healthy roster but simply lost all the time. If the Pistons make all the projected moves this summer, they should have around 10 million dollars to spend potentially on a free agent center, so they may not even be drafting a big. Also, don’t forget, the Pistons have two second round picks and there’s plenty of talent available in the 2nd round.
