Not sure how this will work out. I think Lin should get 30 + mpg, and let Kobe ball and try and score 35 ppg (because let’s face it, what else do the Lakers fans have to cheer about with this team?)
Lakers best shot is to pick up a big man in the 2015 draft to play alongside Randle in the future. Maybe Okafor or Towns Jr.

DaGuywhodidurmaParticipantIt’s clear that the Lakers are trying to keep next year’s pick away from the suns.(top 5 protected) they are clearly the worst team in the west based on overall talent and with teams like Orlando and Milwaukee getting better add the fact they play in the east it looks like they could be one of the 3 worst teams next year.

We are taking on salary cap positioning ourselves to offer superstars in 2015 (Rondo, Love, etc) , 2016 (KD, Kobe, Maybe Dwight?), 2017 (Westbrook, etc etc) instead of offering Lance, Deng, Ariza, 12 mil a year we save that for guys who seriously deserve it. (Bron played for 16 mil a year last year 4 mil higher than what Deng and Lance want. So while your teams offer that to average fringe all stars, we’ll wait for your books to be filled and swoop in and take your stars. You will rue the day you kicked us while we were down because like a Phoenix we will rise and set the league on fire like we always have. We’re only 4 years removed from a title I can wait another year, watch Kobe make a run at a scoring title. I’m not worried. I believe. Lakernation.

Magic JordanParticipantWith this team I am all for trying to get another lotto pick next year. The problem is they have to be no better than the 2nd worst team in the league which is going to be hard to accomplish. Which is why I hate the moves they made even more.
Nick Young, Lin and Jordan Hill are far from blockbuster moves… But they will provide enough wins for a similar 7th or 6th place finish as this year which barring a lucky jump into the top 3 means we will be giving our pick to the Suns. Why risk that? Are they that delusional? I’m with Lin because he came with a draft pick. But to pick up Hill and Young what the hell are they thinking? I have tried to make sense of it but I am not able to. There is no reason for them not to bottom out this year. Instead they all but guaranteed they give the Suns a lottery pick as if that team needed more talent.
I used to be one of the few that game Jim and Mitch the benefit of the doubt. But these moves…. While not detrimental to the future are pointless. There is no chance this team can compete for a playoff spot. They act as if not caving in and bottoming out is worth something… But its not. Securing a top 5 pick is worth something. Their pride is killing them. Pride is good to have in a fight or when your back is against a wall…. Its pretty much useless anywhere in the workplace and the Lakers are proving to have to much of it.
You can tell I’m quite bitter Lol…. I encourage anyone to try to switch my outlook on this whole situation.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantI completely agree with you, man. I am pretty upset with all that’s been going on in terms of the Lakers’ moves. I want them to keep their pick, I want them to get young assets that can help later. The Lakers are so full of useless pride right now. The must embrace being a lottery team next year, there is nothing to play for this year. Developing Randle is all I can hope for.

Detroit FanaddictParticipantSorry, but I can’t offer much of a realistic bright side to this. It’s the reason I raised the question. For the longest time the Lakers have been able to lure outstanding free agent talent with the promise of a nice location and playing along side superstar calibur players, but Kobe is getting old and more injury prone. They’re trying to catch big fish without the right bait. Kevin Love is about the best option I see at this point but he would have to want to play in LA because playing next to Kobe isn’t as attractive as it used to be. It wouldn’t hurt if Kobe took a pay cut either. I mean Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, they’re all taking recognizing their age and taking pay cuts. I’m glad they’re showing their appreciation to Kobe’s loyalty but that contract is still to large.

Obviously it’s a terrible contract, there is no doubt about it… but they still had room for a max player and missed out… okay that’s understandable, it happens. What bugs me the most is their desire to stay mediocre which is the equivalent of hell in the NBA. Even if, and this is a big IF they were making these moves with the intentions of getting to the playoffs next year, which at best they would be the 8th seed… they can’t really think these moves would get them there do they? That is what worries me, is that they refuse to bottom out… which essentially means they think they can make a playoff push. If they think they can make a playoff push with this roster they are seriously delusional.
If there was a year to bottom out, it would be this next one simply because they are most likely going to end up giving a top 10 pick to a inner division rival.
Right now Randle is the only bright spot the Lakers have.
