    http://www.basketballinsiders.com/porzingis-alters-knicks-free-agency-focus/

This was a very interesting article I stumbled upon. It basically talks about how Kristaps Porzingis has transformed how prospective free agents will view the Knicks this offseason and beyond. Last offseason top guys like Marc Gasol, Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, etc didn’t seriously consider the Knicks at all. Their "brigh lights of NY" pitch isn’t all that attractive nowadays when a player can go to any market and be a star. Now the prospect of playing with a budding superstar like Porzingis, and Carmelo Anthony is much more attractive.

The article states that getting a top notch PG is the Knicks biggest need going into this offseason, and the best one available is Mike Conley, who is a very good player, but not a superstar. Conley will demand max money which will preclude the Knicks from going after the 3 superstar PGs who become free agents in 2017 (Curry, Paul, and Westbrook).

Curry definitely isn’t happening but Westbrook or Paul I think could. But at the same time Carmelo would now be two years older and probably out of him prime by the time the 2017-18 season rolls around which makes for a very interesting decision Phil Jackson and Co. will have to make this offseason. If you were Phil would you go all out to sign Conley this offseason, or pass and go after one of the big 3 FA PGs in the 2017 offseason?

well if KD resigns with the Thunder and if they maybe win a champhionship your chances of getting Westbrook are smaller also, and CP3 will already be 32 by the time 2017 season begins ..

The Thunder aren’t winning the title, homey.

Top 10 Free Agent Point Guards (According to Hoopshype)

    • Mike Conley
    • Rajon Rondo
    • Jordan Clarkson
    • Deron Williams
    • Brandon Jennings
    • Jeremy Lin
    • Mo Williams
    • Mario Chalmers
    • Matthew Dellavedova
    • Greives Vasquez

I’ve never been a fan of the "Swinging for the fences in Free Agency" strategy…because it’s been years since I’ve seen a star player choose a big market,

Of that group, I’d look at throwing an offer at Conley, Clarkson, Rondo and Dellavedova.

Jennings has the highest ceiling of those players, if he could only remain focused and motivated on and off the court he can become a very, very good PG. The others are either solid but not spectacular (Conley), to risky (Rondo) to not talented enough to be a lead guard (Delly, Lin etc.).

I would offer Jennings a contract, I think he has learned from his mistakes at this point. Give him a 2 or 3 year contract and let him play himself into a max which I think he can and will.

Pretty sure he will get a bit more than 2 to 3 years though…

Really want NY, Boston, and my 76ers to get great again at the same time.

So I hope they get someone good. It’d be fun to see Westbrook and Porzingis with Carmelo, they could probably win something with good role players.

Aside from him and maybe Conley (who won’t win you a chip), the only other name on that list I think would help them would be a Mario Chalmers, who is solid.  Lin isn’t a bad option either.

I think Rondo at this point dribbles way too much.  Delly is a role player.  Clarkson is a classic overhyped Laker player, Jennings can’t play in a system, and Deron Williams is a mental embarassment.

They will likely strike out on the star point guards but if they are smart they should be able to spot a perfect fit. Mario Chalmers. With New York’s Melo-iso heavy and triangle offence and his championship pedigree and comfort level playing around stars it’s a perfect match.

The Knicks are not going to contend with the Melonoma $26 mill and Robin Lopez $14mill contract for the next few seasons. Even if they got Conley or Rondo I doubt they would get past the first round anyway….

2019-20 is when they are free of these two contracts. They should just play Jerian Grant more

That is why a three year expensive deal for jennings, rondo or conley would be worth the risk. It would leave them long term flexibility while going for it with melo. The team probably tops out at a 3rd or 4th seed but it the hawks lose horford or something happens. They have a decent shot at contending. The bulls are a year or 2 away from blowing it up. the wizards have decisons to be made. It seems like the raptors have been on the brink of blowing it up as well. It seems like one of those guys would go there, if they have cap space. Who knows, if prozings develops fast and becomes a 20 to 24 ppg scorer in 2 years that could be enough to push them over the top.

Rondo might be a decent shout for the Knicks if he doesn’t decide to stay in Sac Town. Rondo has a title already so he doesn’t have the issue of trying to get one on his CV so he might look at a more interesting upside team to join.

Westbrook will be chased by a load of teams and if KD stays in OKC then I think he’d be likely too as that possibly gives him best shot at a title.

Curry has his title but if GSW are still likely major contenders come summer 2017, it would take a huge pitch to move him.

CP3 may be 32 come 2017 and may have lost a bit of his lighting fast speed but he is a top creative PG and so could still have several more good years as the likes of Kidd, Nash and Stockton did from that age onwards. So he might be a good fit but a lot would depend how effective Melo would be going forward from 2017 and how much Porz develops if CP3 was looking for a real shot at a title.
