TRC1991ParticipantFor the first time since Woodson took over the reigns as the coach, the Knicks have gone to a more traditional NBA lineup with Melo moving back to his more natural position and putting Amare in the lineup has made a tremendous difference.
In the month of March, the Knicks are 8-2 and have won 8 straight. Amare has averaged 18 and 6 on 60% shooting. JR Smith has played well averaging 15, 5 and 4 on 48% shooting over his past 5 since moving into the starting lineup.
It only took the pea-brained Mike Woodson 2 years to realize that NY has a huge advantage in the post with Melo, Amare and Tyson all on the court together.
Phil Jackson has a bevy of decision he has to make this offseason, none bigger than the one regarding the inept Mike Woodson.
Should he wipe the slate clean and remove Woodson from the bench (Do it, Phil!), this would be the off-season to do it.
Lionel Hollins is miraculously still un-hired despite leading Memphis to the playoffs the past 3 seasons.
College coaches like Shaka Smart and Fred Hoiberg are also available in case he wants to go the Celtics route (though I don’t like the idea)
He also has a long-standing friendship with George Karl who might be ready to get back into coaching.
Either way, the Knicks are showing signs of life and are just a few small moves away from being legitimate contenders

Memphis MadnessParticipantWith the Lakers and Celtics dead in the water, it’s good to see the Knicks showing signs of life.
The NBA doesn’t NEED a good/contending Knicks team, but it never hurts.

theballerwayParticipantI think your right he should have tried this ages ago. I dont know if its the answe to there problems but sometimes a change is required as stated in the OP. The thing is it wa the small line up that had them balling out last year. That was the system that they as a team bought into and found success so I understand his reluctance to make the move. I think he underestimated the impact of Jason Kidd in last years small ball line ups. To me he was the key.
Lionell Hollins ‘inherited two all star big men an all defensive team guard. Not to mention much better complimentary players to be fair. Conley obvious upgrade on Felton to be fair
