DolanCareParticipantI’ve been a dedicated Knicks fan since I was a small boy. The Isaiah Thomas years are known as the official dark ages of the franchaise… but to but honest, today’s Knicks are almost as hopeless.
Don’t get me wrong, under Isaiah’s tutelage the Knicks were an absolute joke. But I knew that as soon as Isaiah left there was a future. We had assets, many of them were young players. Plus, even though we had horrid contracts many of them were somewhat movable.
Now the team we have today will probably be our roster for the next two years. Barganani and STAT are signed to their gargantuan contracts for the next 2 seasons- and no matter how long I fool around on the ESPN Trade Machine I can’t think of a single scenario where we could trade these two dudes. We’re stuck with them.
Some analysts talk about moving Chandler. And while it would be nice to get some draft picks and young blood, the idea of doing that is just depressing. Chandler is not even close to the problem with our team. In fact, I’d argue that he’s our most valuable player.
Meanwhile, our coveted star that we MUST resign is Carmelo. Who I think isn’t even in the top 10 of NBA talent today.
Is there anything the Knicks can do to be a contender besides waiting for contracts to expire??? Please someone give me hope.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI think the Knicks have been stuck since the Scott Layden era, to be honest.
They spend too much money on players that don’t show results, as has been the case for the last 15 years.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI really cant believe the Knicks gave STAT that ridiculous contract. He was already on the decline and his athleticism was diminishing. Bargnani is an atrocious defender. The make-up of that team is all out of whack. I think with the emergence of Tim Hardaway Jr. who isn’t a complete headcase that JR Smith is expendable. Too many bad contracts to move anybody and just a bad blend of players. Knicks fans deserve a lot better than this.

JD’s_TimberpuppiesParticipantUnfortunately I only see the Knicks situation getting worse. Nobody is going to take on those bad contracts unless there is a young cheap piece to add, and the Knicks don’t have anything worth adding to also take on the bad contracts. I honestly think that Carmelo is going to take a long hard look at whether or not he even wants to stay in New York. I know it’s home and he loves living there, but that situation is terrible. Funny enough Melo’s passion for the game and his desire to win which has always been an area of doubt may actually be why he stays. He may just want to stay home make a boatload of money and continue to take as many shots as he can.

rileymcshea3ParticipantRaptors probably made the trade of the year. Who knew you could give away your former #1 pick at the age of 28 and get better. They are now the 3rd seed in the East and I will never find out why the Knicks wanted Bargani, maybe they just love getting bad contracts.
