BasketBalAllanParticipantI came across this article earlier today stating that the Kings are likely to sign Rondo as a FA and found it to be a bit presumptive, but if something like this actually happened i’m not sure how I would feel about it as a Kings fan. So I thought I would get some input from other people.
Initial thoughts if this happened:
1. Is the current Rondo able to help the Kings more than Collison?
2. Will his reputation in the locker room help him piss Cousins off even more?
3. What would be the point at which they overpayed for him?

mgreener_34ParticipantI feel like this rumor has been floating around for a while now, and was absolutely disgusted when the Celtics turned down Rondo for McLemore and what turned out to be the #8 pick in the draft. Made no sense to me then, and makes no sense to me now.
Kings have had interest in Rondo for years now, and could def. see them buying low on him now. Sac would be the ideal place for Rondo to play to be honest. Karl runs an uptemp team, which Rondo excells in, and he would have another hot-headed all-star next to him to take a lot of the heat off of him. Plus, if you can’t make it to LA, Sac would be a nice option for Rondo if he wanted to go to the Lakers. A lineup of:
Cousins
Gay
#6
McLemore
Rondo
Would be very exciting for the fans, and depending on how quickly the players buy in, and how ready #6 is, the Kings could be right up there with the Suns/Jazz fighting for that 8th spot. I think at this point the writing is on the wall with DCuz, so the Kings should try and go all out and sign a player like Rondo to try and win more games now. I can see a situation similar to KLove’s looming on the horizon, but the Kings actually have a chance to improve their team, they just can’t miss out on this pick.
If they do sign Rondo, surrounding him with shooters in McLemore/Gay/Stauskas and whoever they pick at #6 is ideal. Who knows, if it’s Winslow or Hezonja that player would fit in like a glove not only with Rondo, but also with Karl.

BleedGreen808ParticipantActually I believe it was Sac that turned down the trade. Rondo refused to promise he would re-sign with the Kings. I find it funny that he might consider playing for the Kings now that his stock is down.

zer0d0ubtI’m not convinced Rondo is desired by any NBA team. This could be a Jordan Crawford situation, except Crawford never acted out nearly as bad as Rondo did in Dallas. Yet he was basically frozen out of the NBA last year for being a knucklehead.

kingofbumsParticipantThere is a glaring difference between the two. One is a proven elite pg in the league and has a ring. The other only has a handful of great games…

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI could absolutely get on board with this, especially if it keeps the Lakers from overpaying for him.
Rondo should theoretically not be a bad fit for Sacramento if he’s healthy, motivated and they can get him for cheap. Karl runs the type of offense where point guards have a lot of freedom, and he would have plenty of scoring options around him to do what he does best. The problem is that who knows where rondos head is at right now and what player you would actually be getting. If its the Dallas version then I would say they are just better off with collision as the starter.

HitsterParticipantRondo didn’t work out in Dallas but if he went to the Kings then he’d become the senior member of the team and had a proven record at the Celtics.
George Karl would be the sort of coach who might get the best out of Rondo and having Rondo would give them an excellent creative outlet to feed DMC and Gay.

pokieParticipantFirst, Rondo gets to pick where he plays this time. So one would hope he would take his time, travel around, and really check out his options. Dig into the clubs that want him and make sure he’s a good fit. Then, after he makes his choice, some of his ideas about how it will all play out will not match how it all shakes out. They never do. Can he make that adjustment and get on with it? I hope so. He can really play.

zer0d0ubtRondo doesn’t really get to pick where he plays. Those days are over.
How many teams want an uncoachable diva who can’t shoot and refuses to go to the FT line? And who needs the ball in his hands at all times or he might curse out the coach and quit on his team.

sitlbitoParticipantI don’t get why any team would want Rondo at this point. You have to realize that Boston was better with either Smart or Turner at the point(hardly superstars) and Dallas was muuuuuch better with Jameer Nelson at the point(Not really an all star anymore). I’m pretty sure the Kings would be better off letting Collison run the show and not touch Rondo. He won’t make any team better(except the opponents),but hey if there’s a team willing to take the risk,I wouldn’t be surprised it’ll be the Kings.
