I think the Jazz should definitely draft Kendall Marshall. When the transition happens between the current team and the future team I think the Jazz could make some serious playoff runs. Right now theyre starting guys like Millsap, Harris, Jefferson, Howard and Bell. Some of these guys are really good but to be honest i’m much more excited for the future. All of their contracts are expired at the end of next season and then it’s time to usher in a new era. They need to keep their current bench together because this is gonna be the team to beat in the near future.

    PG – Kendall Marshall

    SG – Alec Burks

    SF – Gordon Hayward

    PF – Derrick Favors

    C – Enes Kanter

I could see them getting more of a pure shooter at the two like JJ Redick (who is a 2013 free agent) and having Burks be a guy who can come off the bench and play 3 positions or just have JJ come off the bench but either way this team can really play. It’s vintage Jerry Sloan with a pass first PG, strong post play and shooter/defenders on the wing. I can’t wait to see this team pan out.

The Warriors won the tiebreaker. It’s doubtful Utah will have a first-round pick this season at all.

"The Warriors will have a better than 70 percent chance of keeping their first-round draft pick after winning the tiebreaker with Toronto on Friday."

both are very promising and i really like favors, but i cant see him as a future all star as many people think. he’s going to be a 14-10 guy with a couple of blocks, and thats not bad. then you have kanter, who has been showing us that hes a good rebounder but hes still very raw offensively. anyway, im a UNC fan, and i think kendall marshall is going to be, not only the best PG out of this draft, but also one of the best players.  the jazz are a very interesting team with a good nucleus of young players (favors, kanter, hayward, burks).

That’s the dream.  I think Dragic is the best likely pick up the Jazz could make this offseason.  The Jazz are ready to win now and they need a legit 1 to make that happen.  Betting on a rook is always a risky proposition.  Although Dragic is no DWill, he’s generally a proven commodoty in the NBA–a legitamate starter-level pass-first 1.  And he’s a very legit deep threat that will spread the floor for Jazz bigs; two birds with one stone.

The ultimate irony would be if the Jazz picked up DWill in free agency again.  That would be legendary.  It would instantly make the Jazz a championship contender and would have the potential to be a "the decision"-like villain maker.

GTS – Favors is definitely going to be a lot better than a 14/10 player.  He’s a 14/10 player right now as a second year pro whenever he gets 20 minutes or more.  I’m not one of those claiming he’s destined to be Dwight 2.0, but he definitely has all star written all over him.  Kanter looks slow, but strong.  However, he’s just 19 and this is the first time he’s played organized ball in three years.  I’ll wait ’til next year to begin solidifying opinions on him.

very agree with the choices you’d take… dragic would be fantastic in that team. Marshall would be great too.

hayward favors kanter are a very good core of young pormising productive players…. burks didn’t play much this year but he was always effective. He should be an applicant for MIP next year.

The jazz will have to build a bench with role players : trading jefferson, harris and millsap should allow them to bring several quality role players.

They are in a tough situation now. From looking like they would have 2 lottery picks, to now probably none, yet having a decent team. Do you blow up a playoff team? Or do you keep Jefferson, Harris and Millsap around another year? I was really looking forward to them adding 2 more players to their core of young guys, but I guess we’ll have to wait anothe year. Would have loved to see Marshell run that team with possibly Meyers Leonard or Zeller to make a big scary front court.

Heres to the Warriors tanking and tying with the Raptors for 7th. Now lets get lucky and get that top 7 pick back.

I wouldn’t want Marshall because Utah needs someone that can shoot on the wing other than Gordan Haward.

Future_Scout’s board, utah never tanks. NEVER. They don’t care what’s at stake they are always in it to win. So wanting them to tank isn’t a good thing to bet on. I don’t like it when teams tank, not even if I don’t like that team. I think it seriously puts a bad name on not the tanking team but also the NBA. "Oh yeah we want to lose in order to cash in on a high draft pick". That’s the spirit, put all your hopes and dreams on some draft pick that might not pan out. Imagine a coach having to tell his young players, "I’m playing you so many minutes so we can lose and get a high draft pick." What’s that young player going to play for? NOTHING. "So go out there and get all the experience you can, I don’t care how many mistakes you make, because we’ll lose no matter what." That rookie or young player must be real excited to play. Yet that’s exactly what the Warriors did. Keep in mind that I am not mad that the Warriors tanked so they could keep their draft pick(which they likely will), I am mad because they tanked in general. A team should never tank, no matter what’s at stake.

Anyways now that that’s out of my system, the Warriors pick can still be Utah’s in 2013. But in the meantime, Utah needs to sign Dragic, because this team would look so much better with a pure point guard that can shoot as well. What if they did a sign and trade with Houston. Utah trades Harris and Jefferson for Martin and Dragic. Utah could use a veteran 2 guard who can shoot as well. Burks isn’t quite ready to start yet, but he might have to. Miles will be gone, Howard might be gone, so they could start Carroll instead but honestly who wants to see Carroll start. He’s doing well now but I don’t think the plan is to start Carroll for the long term future. Heck, Carroll might be gone next year too. You certainly don’t want to see the Jazz starting Bell again. That was a mistake, and had better not happen again. So Burks might get to start next year, but I don’t know if he’s ready for it. Getting someone like Kevin Martin would really help Burks progress and the team in general. Lee is really coming along for the Rockets and I think he’d do well starting. Besides the Rockets might need to make room for their lottery pick. Harris and Lowry can fight for the starting spot, but I think Lowry would win in the end. What do you think, Utah does a sign and trade with Houston to get Dragic and Martin while trading Jefferson and Harris?

yeah i am a little bumed that we likely will not get the gs pick. i think now we need to trade big al and pick up dragic as a free agent. i do think it would be funny if dwill decided to come back, i do not think it will happen but i would love it if it did. i hope we do not resign cj, i am sick of him. i want to see howard back. i like bell but i am not sure he fits in with the team much anymore. i cant wait to see what moves we make this offseason.

No need to do a sign and trade.  Dragic is a full-blown unrestricted free agent.  And he’s nowhere near max-cap potential, so there’s no advantage to signing him under Houston’s banner first to make the trade.  Just convince him and his agent that Utah is the place to be and it’s done.

he’s not max cap, but what is his asking price likely to be? and is he worth that much? free agency is mostly about supply and demand and i think Utah and Portland will both be parlaying over Goran’s services, not to mention Houston wants to resign him.

my guess would be he’ll be asking for a starting of at least 8 mill with a 10% increase annually. and if he does get that, will people start calling him over-rated? even if he provides the numbers he has this season when he started, will jhe still get critised for his lack of D with a pay-check like him?

im actually comparing his impending situation with a former back-up point guard who really excelled and put up a great numbers when his team’s starting point guard went down with an injury. this guy was also about to hit free agency and his fans wanted to trade their starting PG to convince this guy to resign which they did. most of you must have guessed it by now, im reffering to Jose Calderon of the Raptors. if their situation played out simillarly, would you Jazz fans be happy about it?

benny15 – Yes, the market may price him at more than he’s worth.  And your numbers are probably right.  He’ll probably want a 5+ year deal paying $35-50M.  Is he worth that?  We really don’t know.  If he could play a full season as well as he played in releif of Lowry this year, then the answer is yes.

However, the Jazz are optimally positioned to sign a big FA this year.  They have nearly $30M of cap space (when you factor in their $10M kicker from the Okur trade).  And they’re projected to have around $20M of available space next year too if they kept their current roster.

IMO the Jazz should attempt to sign Dragic to a contract that pays him max money for two years and tapers off rather than an increasing contract, thus giving them plenty of leeway when they need to re-sign people in 3 years.  Maybe a 5-year, $40M contract paying $11, 11, 6, 6, 6 would work.

The collection of young talent possessed by Utah is quite staggering. They will be a force to reckon with for years to come.
