I meant to post this earlier this morning, but I got a little busy and couldn’t do it so, here goes. I was able to go to last night’s game, the Jazz vs. Warriors.

The Jazz, the 7th seed team in the West matched up with the Golden State. At about 8:00 AM MT, the report was sent out that the Jazz would be missing Hood, Favors, Hill, and Alec Burks. Burks and Favors were expected to sit, however, Hill was initially expected to play after a report before the recent Suns game stated Hill would likely play this week against the Warriors. Hood also has had a nagging hamstring injury, but he has played through it most games. So, the Jazz are already without three of their starters. At about 3:00 PM, the report comes out that Gordon Hayward will also be sitting. At this point, as a Jazz fan, I wonder if it’s even worth going, however, I still go. I’m watching the game and there was a point where the Jazz were down 29-5. I was about ready to pack my bags and leave. But, I stayed, and man was I glad I did. In the 3rd and 4th quarter Joe Ingles lit it up from behind the arc, Shelvin Mack was holding his ground while also hitting some timely shots and before I knew it, the Jazz were only down by 5 halfway in the 4th, and they cut it down while Thompson, Green, Curry, and Durant were all in. Keep in mind that 4 of the Jazz’s usual 5 starters were out. And the Jazz ended up losing the game by 7.

If you don’t want to read the great story skip down to here and at least answer the question.

This post wasn’t meant to knock on the Warriors at all, because I really like their team, a little less since Durant signed there, but I still like them. But I’m more saying that the Jazz are a crazy scary team to face simply because of their depth. They were able to hold the Warriors to 106 points, when they’d been averaging 118, and 125 in the month of December. So, my question is… How scary are the Jazz, and was it just a fluke that they came this close to the Warriors? What do all you draft.net users and pro scouts think?

The Warriors were on the 2nd night of a back to back. I honestly think this game was a fluke. The Warriors pretty much came with the haymaker in the 1st quarter and then just kind of coasted the rest of the game. Kevin Durant was asleep the 1st three quarters. Credit the Jazz for fighting to get back in it.

I do think the Jazz are going to be a very good team once everyone is healthy. I can’t wait to see that. I really like this squad.

I don’t think we can call it a fluke completely because we’ve seen already that the Warriors will let you back in the game, and that could come back to bite them in the playoffs if they don’t figure that out

I would not want to play the Jazz at all in the first 2 rounds. When healthy they’ve been one of the best teams in the league, but they haven’t been healthy for that many games. I still think they lack the star needed to be a contender, but they’ll be a tough out for anyone

Do you see any of their current players becoming a superstar? Do you believe in Hood, Exum or even Favors to take the next step?

In my opinion, they’re all good starters but I don’t think any of them can carry a team. Someone who watches them more like ZachAttack or another Jazz fan on here might be more suited to give their opinion though

Hood is probably the only one I could see becoming a star, maybe Gobert. I think they’re trying to model their team after the early 2000’s pistons teams. The teams that were defensive minded and had no one star, but they were still able to win a ship.

The 2000s Pistons is what I’ve thought about when thinking about the Jazz. I think the biggest questions I have that would separate the 2 is that do they have the coaching or the go-to guy late in games? 2 questions I don’t have is their defense and depth, which is what I think would get them wins in the playoffs

Hayward actuallly has been their go to guy late in games so far this year and he’s really improved in that area. I’ve been impressed with him so far although he has a rough past with that. They also have joe Johnson who has a good past with hitting important shots when needed.

When the Jazz get everyone back fit, they will have a very nice mix of young talent and good veterans. As said above they may not have a stand out star player but they have good scorers across the team and the Stifle Tower can make a big difference on defence.

Last year they were nearly back to .500 and this year I can see them having a winning season if they get the roster back to fitness fairly soon. They have some good players nearing their peak and the addition of Diaw and Joe Johnson brought great experience, good leadship and a championship winner.

Teams like Charlotte did very well last year with a roster of good players without having a true superstar and I could see the Jazz doing similar this year.

I agree they will be a hard team to beat come play off time as they have very good depth and when rosters tighten up in the play offs then they will have very few weaknesses but can still share minutes around the key men.
