joecheck88ParticipantThat would be an under statement. This was terrible. Jeremy Evans just won and he had the best dunk. If these guys put in the time with dunking the ball as much as they did coming up with props, it would be way better.

franfranParticipantregrettable that decides who wins that way …
George had to win0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:18pm #641410

Wavy BagelsParticipantNot only the props killed it for me, but the new system that gave America the power to vote was a bad idea. And what was the purpose of the intensity meter? It had no purpose to the contest unless you were a scientist/mathematician watching the contest. Also, the players were given WAY too many attempts.

aamir543ParticipantThis whole All Star weekend has been a dissapointment. The Rising Stars game was nice, but that wasn’t even the appetizer. Tonight was lame except for the Haier Shooting competition(Those half court shots came in bunches) and the skills competition. The shootout was a huge dissapointment. The winner had 18, 16, and 17. I mean that’s not bad, but Love didn’t neccesarily steal the show. James Jones was so hot at the end of round one, it looked like he’d take it home, but he choked.
And I don’t mean to call out the crowd(I don’t think we have any Magic Fans on the forum) but they were really lame. I mean, usually when they announce the dunk contest participants, the crowd goes crazy and gets you amped up, but nothing. Even the players looked pretty surprised at that.
I hope they don’t fold the dunk contest. It has been lame every year the past 7 years except for Dwight’s year, last year, and one of Robinson’s year. At least it wasn’t as bad as 2010.
Each guy had one nice dunk but nothing that would get you out of your seat. Evans was the best, but in good years he’s a first round exit. DeMar DeRozan was right, the props take the fire out of the actual dunks. Sometimes it’s nice, but it was way overdone tonight.
And get Kenny Smith of the court and into the booth. I don’t mind him comentating. But he needs to Shut the F*** up as an announcer cause he really got on my nerves. I’d rather have Shaq out there, and the best part would be that we wouldn’t even be able to hear him.
It was funny how they kept showing James and Wade looking like idiots eating tacos or somthing. Was it that they weren’t showing the stars, or were guys like Kobe, KG, and DRose not there?
All in all, this weekend has been a major dissapointment. Last year they had so much more coverage on TNT, and it’s actually funny listenting to those guys, and that fantasy draft last year was hillarious. Plus they usually have a segment on dunks. None of that. Hopefully we get some entertainment tommorow, but this has been the most dissapointing All-Star weekend in recent memory thus far.

Wavy BagelsParticipantMy only favorite moments this weekend has been Anthony Morrow paying homage to Drazen Petrovic and Tony Parker winning the Skills Challenge. Everything else I can do without.

OhCanada-ParticipantIm gonna start a donation through paypal for all basketball fans in the world to donate one dollar just to pay James, Rose, Howard, and Griffin to dunk next year. I look forward to Christmas, Draftday, Slamdunk competition, NBA Finals, and my company trips all year. I have been let down…

Zeke313ParticipantI was talking with my brother and we both agree that they should hire me as a dunk coach. I mean I could come up with some more creative dunks off the top of my head than these guys with a week of preparation.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:36pm #641421
Johnny ChillJeremy Evans, his 2nd dunk was the most creative dunk and probably the hardest to pull off.
I thought Chase blind fold dunk was nice too, especially since the 1st time he tried it, you could tell he couldnt see.
Derrick Williams 2nd dunk was his best, off the side of the backboard spin.
I couldnt see Paul George’s human glowstick dunk because I couldnt tell where the rim was.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:42pm #641424
TheLastWordParticipantWell Evans had the only legitmate dunk no one else could probably do, so he deserved to win. Props and lighting tricks should always be second to truly skillful dunks.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:44pm #641425

cabbycabParticipantThat was absolutely dreadful. I hurried home from work. Had dinner and put my kid to bed. Sat down on my couch and forced my wife to watch with me and was presented with total garbage.

Stevenwow. you guys are tough. i thought this one was wayyyyy better then the one with derozan. was that last year? i thought that one SUCKED! this one was pretty decent i thought. minus the crowd cause the orlando magic fans just werent into it… charles was hilarious too. there was something he said, i forgot what, but had me dying..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:57pm #641428
aamir543Participant^DeRozan has been in the last two Dunk Contests. If you are reffering to the one with Gerald Wallace, Shannon Brown, and Nate the Great, than yes, that one sucked even worse than tonight’s. If you are reffering to last year’s with Griffin and McGee, than you my friend, are what I like to call, WRONG.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 6:57pm #641429

torontoraptors10ParticipantThe whole broadcasting team was pretty funny….
When Derrick Williams can’t missing his dunks, I forgot who said it, but they were like "I don’t think he has it in him to make a lay up" lol

M-DYMESParticipantFair warning im b0ut 2 rant…
This sh(i)t is turrible. What a waste 0f my time f0r the "main event". Im d0ne with these stupid pr0ps. And as if thr0wing 0n s0me0ne elses jersey makes y0ur dunk any better smmfdh. The wh0le first r0und was just pe0ple jumping 0ver things. This ain’t the high jump. This is the dunk c0ntest. Give me a creative dunk, n0t 0hhhh i can jump 0ver kevin hart 0r leapfr0g 0ver R0y Hibbert. Im disgusted. And as if turning the lights 0ff 0r riding in 0n a m0t0rcycle, 0r putting a 1st pers0n camera 0n impr0ves the dunk. Im pissed cuz i get all hyped up f0r it every year b/c as a child, this was THE EVENT. The Slam Dunk c0ntest, it was 0ff the chain. The 3pt and skills challenge was m0re entertaining. I blame the m0dern day culture and the fact that the stars are pussyin 0ut and d0nt wanna waste their time in the c0ntest.
And the c0ncept 0f having viewers v0te f0r 100% 0f the v0te is retarded. S0 pissed.

jeff416ParticipantI’ve been saying for the past couple of years that they should replace the dunk contest with a one on one contest. I dont get excited when I watch the dunk contest anymore, I would find a one on one competition much more entertaining.

0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 7:41pm #641448

kngojcParticipantDid anyone think that Budinger’s blindfold dunk was fake? The first time he completely messed up but the next time he does a reverse? The announcer is like, lets count out the steps. 10 steps and he takes 7 and knows exactly where he is and is able to throw down a perfect reverse? Maybe its just me but that doesn’t seem too believeable.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 7:44pm #641450

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantJust because its in Orlando doesn’t mean that majority of the fans are Magic fans.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 7:59pm #641455

cabbycabParticipantOf course the Budinger dunk was fake. It was a total sham.
Why was that motorcycle there? You have to jump at least that high to complete any simple dunk.
Did Williams even practice that last dunk? He didn’t even come close to completing it.
Evans first dunk was the worst "completed" dunk in contest history.
I honestly thought that George had missed the "Tron Dunk" because it was so dim….
What a joke.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 8:00pm #641456
SwatLakeCityParticipantSo I ended up missing the duck contest, because I needed to help my parents move. I thought family was more important than the Allstar festivities but it sounds like I didn’t miss much

RUDEBOY_ParticipantChase doing Ceballos blindfold dunk,Evans wearing Malone’s jersey,Derrick imitating Blake car jump, by jumping over a motorcycle,Paul George bringing out a pic of Bird..
I Knew when i saw P Diddy, that this dunk contest was going to be about remixing other people’s stuff…

Sasha4MVPParticipantAny of the contestants last year would have blown away this year’s field.

NYK2010Participantnot legendary
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:09pm #641462

No Props NeededParticipantTake the props out and get real Dunkers I’m tired of watching bums dunk, I mean p George is a dunker and so is Williams but who the hell voted the other 2 in next year please no bums or I’m retiring the dunk off till Vince comes back.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:17pm #641463

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI Have no problem with the props..I just hate when they pull out a prop for a dunk someone else has done…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:19pm #641464

Da1potParticipantI’m pretty sure that Javale McGee can do the same dunk that Evans did with ease…..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:24pm #641465

GrandmamaParticipantGlad I watched the UFC fights….sounds like this thing was awful.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:34pm #641466

Sasha4MVPParticipantI think it was Shaq that said that the stars better start participating in the dunk contest again cause this year’s was awful. I can only dream of a dunk contest with Rose, LeBron, and Westbrook.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 9:36pm #641467

NYCrealdealParticipantjohn wall demar derozan and two other people in it. no props just dunks. and then well have some memorable dunks…
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 12:24am #641472

Anton123ParticipantAll of the dunkers were capable of doing great dunks, Williams 360 was great, but f!ck those stupid arse props, extra glow-in the dark jerseys, cameras, silly acting and postmen, it’s not an effing nativity play, go out there and dunk.
Damn it, justwhen I thought that less stars meant less bullsh!t, I stand corrected once more. I don’t know how you can save the dunk contest, maybe just effing ban everything except teammates helping with the lob. John Wall would’ve won simply doing the rookie challenge dunks
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 12:28am #641474

RafterParticipantThis is what the Slam Dunk contest is reduced to, i’m not even excited for it anymore, because it’s just gimmicks now, Blake Griffin’s winning dunk last year was average on so many levels. This year had some nice dunks, Derrick Williams’ 360 stood out, but am i going to remember this contest in three years? Probably, but not in a fond way.
It less about the dunks now, it’s more about the props and the build up of the dunk, since there’s more room for innovation, people don’t get as excited as they used to by a between the legs, Charles Barkley said it best "We get so spoiled by the dunk contest" and he’s right, at least they tried to put on a show.
As for the fans voting, another money making scheme by David Stern, he’s tapping into the large fanbase which i admire to some degree, but the integrity of the event falls as a whole, i’d rather want the opinion of a Erving, Wilkins, Carter, Jordan, Webb etc first then the opinion of fans.
I’m more excited for the three-point shootout, congrats to Kevin Love by the way.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 1:16am #641477
frogmanParticipantYeah this was a lame dunk contest, however the participants kind of need props if they want to do something completely new. There is only so much humans are able to do and without props we would see the same things year in year out. Although they could have a bit more creativity than just jumping over things/people. Stuff like when Nash headed the ball to Amare was cool, so more stuff like that.
And if anyone actually believes Budinger was unsighted is kidding themselves. Get up, blindfold yourself and try to walk 20 yards in a straight line. I would swim from Australia to personally congratulate you if you were successful. So to believe someone can run from midcourt and throw down a smooth reverse is laughable.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 3:29am #641481

McDunkinOhhh you meant the NBA contest? I could have sworn that we were betting on the NBADL contest…I mean you brought up Gerald Green so i thought there was no way that was a NBA related thread.

goneParticipantIf Shump did dunk he shouldve jumped over Jeremy Lin on the couch he sleeps on, then Lin shouldve Tebow’d…..the world would have imploded
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 5:21am #641494

JNixonParticipantNo offense to the players, but I knew the dunk contest would bite when they announced the names for who would be in it.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 5:24am #641495
joecheck88ParticipantIt was reported that Shumpert was going to windmill over Jeremy Lin on the couch. That would have been fun. I’m not going to bash props but lets not over do it. The tron dunk was too much. The eye camera dunk was trying too hard. I won’t bash the motorcycle because Blake did only jump over the hood. I like jumping over teammates and getting lobs.
Charles Barkley carried the whole competition though. The guy had me in tears laughing on multiple occasions. And get Kenny Smith off the court. They should have a fan vote but not for the whole thing. Have 4 players, past or present, and then a fan vote.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 5:29am #641497

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThe only true winner was the company that collected $5.00 for every text or any person that previously had a sleeping problem.

0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 7:53am #641521

surveParticipantThe D-League was much better.
and Steven…by you mentioning Derozen’s name, I hope you are not assuming that he was terrible? Derozen is one of the best dunk contestants of all time, just because he didnt win doesnt mean much to me. Derozen takes the contest back to the old days.
Speaking of which….Derozen was right about all this prop crap. The contest should go back to its roots and should be scored more like diving and other events…..by timing, execution, etc… there is not much more that can be done as far as originality, I just want to see some nasty dunks.
Was hoping to see Shumpert and a guy like Terrico White….now those are dunkers.

0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 10:10am #641549

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’m emberassed for the NBA for this weekend so far, maybe I’m just getting older and more cynical but All Star weekend used to be so much better.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 10:36am #641555

Mr. 19134ParticipantJeremy Evans had by far the hardest, most impressive, and most creative dunk of the contest so he deserved to win. He grabbed 2 balls…pause…in midair and yammed then home on his first try.
McGee’s dunks would of won this year but a landslide though.
And I’ve still yet to see a dunk better then when Iverson through the ball off the back of the backboard and Andre Iguodala grabbed it, ducked his head, and windmilled it home coming from behind the net. That dunk was so dam ridiculous.
We’re missing epic moments like this:
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 10:38am #641556

Mr. 19134ParticipantThat was Gerald Green in the Grand Mama costume. He would of won this years dunk contest doing that bull…
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 11:05am #641569

TyroberParticipantMaybe they can get rid of the dunk contest and do a 1 on 1 competition. Anything would be better than the dunk contest right now.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 12:12pm #641584
Johnny ChillAsk your Grandpa-pa who Grandma-ma was! Seriously!
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 8:32pm #641738
j1232eParticipantI think Gordon Hayward pass was just as impressive as Evans dunk. The dunk contest needs some stars dunking against each other, everyone always remembers jordan vs. dominique dunk contests not many people will remeber that jeremy evans won the 2012 dunk contest.
