After tonight’s monster 43-14 performance by Anthony Davis, it only adds to the argument that he’s only behind LeBron and a healthy KD. Last night could have been considered an "off game" of 18 and 9. Davis is simply a transcendent, once-in-a-decade type of talent and is putting up numbers that the league hasn’t seen since Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson.

Oh yeah, and he’s only 21 years old.

the only knock you can have on him as a player is injury concerns. Pelicans did the right thing in moving him to PF. I wonder how much weight he can, effectively, put on as his career conntinues.

The thing is, most young players are rather injury prone.  He has played a lot of minutes and games for a young player.  I don’t think long-term AD is likely to be injury-prone, as he is much lighter on his feet than most big men and doesn’t have a lot of extra weight.  But who knows.  Injuries happen.

"most young players are injury prone" …??? I would say the opposite, young players are less injury prone. However, athletes that compete in 3 or 4 games per week will get injured a lot over the course of a season. Moreover, Basketball is an injury prone sport, with a lot of turning and moving, easily tweeking a muscle or spraining an ankle in the process.

Most young players are more injury prone than AD at least.  It seems to me players in their primes are least injury prone.  So many young players seem to get hurt.  Certainly last season the rookies were more injury prone than probably any other class of player, with Burke, Bennett, Len, Noel, McCollum, Larkin, Mekel and others missing major time due to injury.

He is definitely 3rd right now and slowly sneeking in there with LeBron and Durant. LeBron I think is on the decline already, though physically only. While Durant right now is injured but definitely would be the same player when he comes back. With the way Davis is playing right now, being no.1 is not too far away. He is currenly no. 1 in PER that would be no. 1 all-time. He needs to win though, and so far Pelicans is on the rise.

Before the season started and the MVP talk arose, many were quick to dismiss him taking home the award citing although he will have a great year, it is not his time.

Anyone with the opinion AD was too young or not his year to win it willing to change their positions?

Or do you still think it is not his time just yet? He is border lining 25PPG, 11RPG, 2SPG, 4BPG territory which is absolutely nuts. I am not sure the last player to do it, but I would guess it is an elite club. What is also just as impressive he is averaging only 1.3 turnovers a game and doing a good job not fouling, which as a big man would be hard in today’s NBA.

Wether AD can get the MVP award really depends on how good the pelicans are. If he can get the Pelicans into the playoffs and a solid seed and averages a tad under those figures I cannot see anyone else taking home the award. It is still early and only 11 games into the seasons for his Pelicans but it is a real chance.

Also, before he got drafted the site really put their neck out and saying how he was going to have a Garrnet, Duncan like career and potential. I am convinced we are witnessing one the best bigs ever.

What an awesome player. It’s been since Lebron and KD since I can remember a guy having this much potential, and excitement around him this early in his career. I really do think he’s on that level of talent.

Davis just seems like a natural. He’s only on the upswing. I still maintain this might not be his MVP year due to the fact the NBA usually gives it to a guy on a 55+ win team, but I don’t doubt he’ll get one soon.

Great performance last night, just an addition to an exciting 3rd year.

He’s amazing, yet still has so much room to grow. We’ve still not seen him develop a real back to the basket game, draw doubles and make the right passes to teammates. Imagine when or if he gets that… Scary. He’d be the best player in the NBA I think.

Man I’m a Pelicans fan, and I said on this site before he was drafted, that I didn’t think he would be what people said he would be, I thought he would be a good player, even an all star, but I didn’t think he would be THIS!! 26 points, 11 boards, 3.5 blocks 2 steals, 2 assists, 58% from the field and 80% from the line at 21!!  Crazy part is he has so much room to grow, he really still doesn’t have a post game, still makes some mistakes when passing, mid-range jumper still isn’t automatic. He’s going to be amazing at 24. Like a supernova.

I’m glad I was wrong, I just have to thank Yeezy and thank the Basedgod!! (I just hope he doesn’t leave in 4 years).

Off topic but DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Bosh, Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond and Nikola Vucevic still have room to improve but they are good, and I have high hopes for Jahlil Okafor, Karl Towns, and Joel Embiid. Who said the big man was dead?

The Brow looks a legit MVP front runner and D-Rose won it in his 3rd season so it can be done early in a career.

My biggest issue would be even if he is putting up insane stats, to win it, surely he’d need to take the NOP into the play offs. As Joe Wolf said above often it’s a guy on a 55 plus win team, so you’d be looking for the NOP to be a comfortable mid level seed and no scrape in 8th place.

But with the Cavs being below .500 and KD out then the top two MVP contenders have question marks about them already.

I’d expect Davis to be pushing strongly for All NBA First or at least Second Team whether he is MVP or not.

Nah, seriously, it’s Anthony Davis.  Dude is a BEAST!

Steph Curry is probably a close 4th, when he is in heat check mode, watch out.

Really though, between LBJ, KD, CP3, Curry, AD, and Westbrook, it’s anyones call.  You could justify any of them as "top 3".

I love Ant Davis game, but he hasn’t proven he can win at this stage of his career.  Regardless of the health concerns sorrounding his team since his rookie year, players have to at the very LEAST make the playoffs…  You are legit putting him above players that have dominated this league for many seasons and took their teams to the playoffs year in and year out…

This site did the same sh!t with Paul George the beginning of last season…  Let’s talk about his potential or the progress he’s shown…  Let’s not say things like "He’s the 3rd best player in the league" when he can’t get his team to the playoffs…
