Wow – Woj/Yahoo is reporting that the Lakers & Kings have exchanged framework of a trade centered on Cousins. His report mentions the likely candidates for players/picks to potentially trade back – #2 pick, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson.

As awesome as Cousins is, he hasn’t been able to propel the Kings to the next level. If Sacramento can get all 3 of those assets, then they should absolutely do it. They could draft an elite center prospect (Okafor), get the potential PG upgrade they seek in Clarkson, and a quality PF they’ve needed for years.

More likely, the Lakers would not give up all 3, and the Kings would have to settle for the #2 pick, one of those two rookies, and possibly a protected pick down the line.

Fireworks in store? Can’t wait for tomorrow, the excitement is building!

Desperate team needing a short cut. Never underestimate that. LA is all about sizzle. Cousins gives them that for sure and he’s certainly got the talent that LA people like to think of when they run the "keys to the franchise" narrative into the ground.

Sac-Town should not trade Cousins for anything less than 2, Randle and either both late first round picks or Clarkson. Cousins isn’t in the last year of his deal and is 24 years old.

If they do that, you’ve suddenly got 2, 6, McLemore, Randle, Clarkson as pieces to build around. You take Russell and WCS and you’ve got an intriguing group. Flip Collison and Gay for picks or assets and Sac Town could be on their way in a rebuild.

Right now it’s reported Lakers doesn’t want to give up both Randle and Clarkston, and Sacramento wants them to eat Landry’s contract. I think Sacramento would almost be forced to take #2 and pick either player. You’d think they have the upper hand, but if Cousins went public about his displeasure, you lose a little leverage. They can come out pretty good here.

Cousins is worth more than Randle, Clarkson & 2nd pick combined..

lakers give up 2 of those 3 fine, but if they give up #2, randle and clarkson, im going to super pissed. All 3 of those are legit pieces to build around.

Doubt the Kings will pull the trigger for anything less than all three. Maybe they’ll take the 27th and a future pick, but I doubt it – it’s probably #2, Clarkson & Randle or no deal at all.

If I were a Laker fan, I’d be rooting for no deal too. As a Kings fan, I’m down with seeing an end to the Boogie era – great, great player, but I seriously doubt he wins a championship any time in the next six years (if ever) no matter who he’s playing for.

Fully agreed. I’d rather they take time with Clarkson, Randle, and the #2 than have one all-star. Because those three are really all they have. Kobe doesn’t count, he’s gone after this year. Sending two of them? Alright. Frankly, I’d rather they keep Clarkson instead of Randle. I’m not exactly sure why.

I guess the real value of Cousins for the Lakers, beyond his play, is the fact that the lure of L.A. plus a franchise player in his prime will get other players to L.A. And that’s really big.

They can get a brand new starting lineup in one draft night with all high potential, and more than likely productive carreers in the league if anything barring injuries.

If I’m a Kings fan I would be stoked because Cousins is a great player, but it just wasn’t working.

Lakers should keep Clarkson definitely.  Second round picks that play like 1st rounder have a very good track record.  Cousins is not a gurantee because he is still young and I can see him and Scott bumping heads.  We all know Sac is going to move Cousins soon and if Lakers are patient they can get him for less than what they would have to give up now and they would at least see how Randle and Clarkson have improved.

The second year is when most guards show what direction they are going whether it is role player or all Star and I think Clarkson is an All Star.  Randle is still up for debate but he has ton of potential.  I saw him in college and if he can bring some of that to the pros, he will be solid starter for years to come and maybe an All Star as well.

Me personally I think Okafor can bring a lot of what Cousins brings but without the baggage.

I believe if the deal is sweet enough go for it but if I am Lakers I would not force it.

That is what the Lakers do though…take short cuts. They are going to find ways to trade and poach other team’s players because LA is a destination for most NBA players.

They can give away their entire roster because unlike the Knicks, people will want to sign in LA. They may not have anything around Cousins and Kobe now. But two weeks into free agency, they could conceivably have an entirely new starting five.

I’d assume if they make this deal, they will pursue Rondo/Afflalo/Matthews/Harris/Butler/Love and a bevvy of role players in the Matt Barnes/Jared Dudley mold.

If they have their way this offseason, its not THAT crazy to think LA could be in the playoff mix next year. Portland could potentially lose 4/5 of their starting five and it feels like Dallas is going to be going down if they miss on Aldridge.

Divac already said this is not going to happen. Karl said he wanted commitment from Cousins. It’s seems Karl doesn’t think Cousins is passionate enough about the game, but really… it would be pretty dumb if the Kings traded him.

If teams involved in trade, they have to get fair value in return for sure. Cousins for Okafor is a trade between now and future. Both are top 5 center material indeed. I don’t see much difference between these 2 players. At least, Cousins hasn’t proved he can bring his team into the payoff like Davis did. I don’t expect Lakers will give up more than #2 for him. If Lakers keep Okador/Russell+Randle+Clakson, these rookie contracts would allow them to chase 2 more all star calibre players like Gasol, Butler or Rando and even Durant in coming 4 years. It is not bad to have the following lineup indeed: Okafor+Randle+Butler+Kobe+Clarkson, or Gasol+Randle+Kobe+Russell+Clarkson. These lineup would allow Lakers to further add players or make adjustment. A trade for Cousins will eat their cap space

I hope they hurry up and get it out of the way, or someone says there is nothing there and it is all made up.  The draft coverage looks like being ruined by Jay Williams and his bias so spending a few hours talking about a DMC trade will be annoying too.  Vlade should just make the trade, getting pick 2 and moving out some unwanted salary with Cousins to the Lakers is enough.  The Kings are not winning with Cousins, time for something different.

Cousins and bad salary player, or players, to the Lakers.  J Okafor, a future first and money savings and the Kings can start fresh.
