White ChocolateParticipantI was reading that thread about how Rodman should be in the HOF. Then I got thinking who in the NBA is most like Rodman? I thought that Paul Millsap is the most like Rodman. They are both undersized power forward’s Millsap is 6’7 246 lbs and Rodman is 6’7 228 lbs. They are both great rebounders and defenders. Rodman is slighty better at rebounding, while Millsap is slightly better at shot-blocking. They both can be good on offense, but they both are better at defense. I am not saying that he is the next Rodman I am just saying that Millsap is the closent thing to Rodman in the NBA right now. Only thing left for Millsap to do is dye his hair different colors all of the time!

MuggsyParticipantBen Wallace

JoeWolf1The closest thing I’ve seen was Reggie Evans and he was a poor man’s Worm. Ben Wallace in his prime was almost a center like version of Rodman, a 6’9” center and a 6’7” power forward are each undersized for their respective positions. Kenneth Faried would be another guy who if he worked at it and wanted to be an elite defender and rebounder could have a similar impact. I don’t see Milsap as a Rodman type player at all, he is an undersized power forward who can rebound, but he is already a vastly more skilled offensive player and in stretches where Boozer was out averaged about 17 points and 9 rebounds. I could never see him averaging more rebounds than points, and I see Milsap as a balanced young power forward, not a defensive specialist.

Malik-UniversalParticipant@cousinsfan11… rodman provided no offense what so ever

dipt1982ParticipantThere is NO ONE like Rodman around right now…

McDunkinbig ben in his prime years was the closest

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantGerald Wallace has some similarities to Rodman. Size, leaping ability, chiseled strength, motor, ability to play SF and PF, rebounding and defensive ability.
But as good a rebounder Wallace is, Rodman was the best rebounder of the last 40 years. And Wallace has a decent offensive game, something which Rodman always lacked.
On an interesting note, when Rodman was Wallace’s age (28) he still hadn’t had a season where he averaged 10 RPG or 1 BPG. It wasn’t until he reached the age of 30 and started playing more PF as opposed to SF that he became the dominant rebounding machine we know of today.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI miss Dennis’s intensity and passion… The way he dove for loose balls and grabbing every rebound in sight… That’s exactly what the Bulls need to win a championship… You all made some good choices but in my own opinion, I gotta go with DeJuan Blair…

Zeke33ParticipantIm not seeing the Paul Milsapp comarison. Sure theyre both undersized PFs but Milsapp is way better on offense. i believe that there was only 1 season where dennis averaged slightly over 10 ppg. And Milsapp doesnt get under defenders skin or has a personality on the court like Rodman. I agree the Reggie Evans being the cloest in the league right now. both similar size, both amazing rebounders, and both annoying defenders. But Evans still isnt anything like Rodman. Rodman was WAY more valuable and more talented. Evans doesnt get on the court as much. I doubt we will ever see another Rodman.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI hope he never becomes like Rodman. Hated that player, especially because of his funky hairdo. He was one of main reasons why I rooted for the Jazz in 99-00 finals. (more so for the pick and roll that the jazz played, but Rodman was another big reason why) I like Millsap, but he is not like Rodman and should never try to be like him.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantArtest use to remind me of Rodman..But he starting focusing more on offense..
Bruce Bowen had a little Rodman in his game..A player that focused mainly on defense..But at times Bowen used dirty antics more then skill ..
The Birdman shows ”Rodman like”’ skills on defense at times…
Noah has some of that intensity

leppyParticipantbut i havent seen any of reggie evans game. or noticed him to do much of anything at least
rodman has the highest rpg of anybody since 72 when wilt played. no one dominates the glass like him anymore

SteroidParticipantI don’t think it is possible for someone to rebound at that rate anymore. The closest thing to Rodman in rebounding is Dejuan Blair. Per 36 min, Blair’s rebounding rate is 12.7 reb which is crazy for a rookie. Ben Wallace was a beast for like 3-4 years, but he dropped off. The rebounding was still there though.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantDwight & Camby are 2 players that i think can average 17 or more rebounds a game..so it can be done…
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/29/2010 - 7:37am #364961

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI dunno if Camby can avg around 17 rpg.
He is playing very well right now and averaging about 12 RPG but since he is 36 I don’t see how he can really improve on his rebounding totals that much.
I think Howard can grab 15+ boards a game and in his prime might approach the 17 mark but he is still about 3 rebounds per game off from that mark right now.
IMO Kevin Love could grab 15 RPG in the right situation. He averaged 11 RPG last year as a 21 year old in just 28 minutes per game.
Love’s per 36 minute RPG was 12.9 as a rookie and 13.8 last year.
Players tend to improve as rebounders with age, usually peaking in their late 20s or early 30s so I could see Love eventually dominating the boards.

dipt1982ParticipantUntil someone actually puts up the numbers Rodman did rebounding, there will not be a player like him. Probably never. He was one of a kind. People have similarities in certain aspects of their games, but no one was as intense of a rebounder as Dennis…
A player of his size at 6’7” will never be the rebounder he was, maybe a bigger guy in today’s game could come close. Ben Wallace was absolutely the only guy close to Rodman in terms of intensity, passion for boarding and defensive attributes.

leppyParticipantis pretty close as gets for the most part. he’s crazy like rodman. just is a better scorer and plays sf instead of pf. not the rebounder but they are both great defenders
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/29/2010 - 8:25pm #365425

dahoodrecruiterParticipanti think u have to take noahs intensity,,,,,tyson chandlers big 0 abilty of a offensive game,,,,and ben wallace rebounding,,,plus ron artest crazy antics …to even come close to a rodman rightnow in nba
