The Milwaukee Bucks have some interesting pieces on their team and when they are clicking, they play extremely well. Remember, this was the team that gave GSW their first loss this season. They now have a 6’11 point guard running the offense in Giannis Antetokoumpo and if he ever figures out how to shoot it consistently, watch out…. A healthy Jabari Parker gives them a serious scoring punch. This team is long, fast and can play some good defense. So the question is:

What is it going to take to get the Bucks over the hump? How do they become contenders?

Experience and development of players, the Thunder were 20 and 23 wins in KD’s first two seasons don’t forget. Basically they need the younger players to improve, add the right players via FA, trades, drafts etc.

Of course the bigger querstion is how much of a contender do they become, there is a difference from being a 40 plus win team in play off positions 5 to 8 or being a likely conference finalist and a 50 plus win team.

They need a PG that can play with Giannis and Jabari

They need another shooter and a shot blocker! That’s what’s needed

Milwaukee has at least a few years to kinda figure things out before they should be ready to be contenders.  The focus should clearly be on continuing the development of Giannis, Jabari, and Middleton.  Other than that, it appears that a 3 and D type of PG, like Dellavedova, might be a good fit next to the playmaking abilities of Giannis and Middleton.

At center, they basically need a better version of Plumlee; a guy that will hustle, set strong screens, can block some shots, and will box out to let Giannis and co. grab the rebounds.  I’m kind of interested in the idea of giving Henson a chance to be that guy for them; he clearly has the shot blocking and has shown flashes of the rest here and there.

I’m not really in a rush to move Monroe or MCW like a lot of others are, but if the right deal comes along, I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.  I would need to be getting a 1st round pick back for Monroe though.  MCW… I’m not sure the return they’d get for him at this point is enough to make it worth it; I think I’d probably hang onto him and just pray things eventually click.  In the very least, he’s a very disruptive defender, a strong rebounder, and can occasionally (not frequently) carry the offense with his penetrating abilities.

In the draft, I’m currently looking at the following guys (in order):

    Buddy Hield

    Jamal Murray

    Jakob Poetl

    Henry Ellenson

    Skal Labissiere

    Timothe Luwawu

I’d be happy with basically any of them for a variety of reasons.

I feel that Jamal Murray would be a perfect fit with the Bucks. He wasn’t the primary ball handler at UK and he would not have to be with the Bucks. He is a very good shooter and would give them a good shooting backcourt with the M&M’s (Murray & Middleton), ha sorry couldn’t resist. The length of this team also makes up for Murray not being the best defender. I think this would the ideal pick.

They have taken a step back defensively. I think a lot of that can be attributed to Monroe and Jabari still learning NBA defense. Monroe is a good offensive piece for them but he will need to adapt to their defensive style quickly or get out of town for a shot blocking rim runner.

The offense has been flowing better with Bayless at the point lately because you have to respect his shot. He is in essense a poor mans Knight which is the kind of PG they need. Also Giannis and Jabari developing their range at outside threats will continue to open up the floor for the whole team

I feel like this is the 10 Bucks post in the past month, and it’s literally the same thing.

-omg Giannis is crazy if he gets a jumper sky tha limit

    – Jabari lookin healthy gonna be good

–Monroe needs to be moved and get an actual rim protector

-need to draft a shooter JAMAL MURRAY, shoulda kept Knight, MCW not good fit 🙁

Not going to lie, had I know this topic had been discussed so much, I never would’ve asked. I’m not on here as much as I used to be.

Any chance they sign Dwight Howard this summer? He’s expressed his interest already. Would he improve them or hold them back?

I feel like he would improve them, but based on his age, might not make sense with the rest of the team.

Yeah Knight was a perfect fit – he’s a hard worker, shoots it well and gives effort defensively.

I think the playoff race in the East is going to be murder next season and at least a couple of good teams will miss out, but the Bucks will get in if health is no barrier.

Long-term they rival Minnesota as one of the brightest young teams and I’d love to see Wiggins vs Parker in the Finals someday, but it might never happen.

With regard to this year’s FA market, the Bucks will have some space but they will likely look to renew the Greek Freak this summer and his contract extension would kick in summer 2017 and Jabari would be up for renewal then. They have to decide what to do with MKG etc, a lot will also depend on who they draft this summer if they luck into the lottery then they could have scary potential.

Back to the FA market if the consensus is that Bucks need a legit C, I wonder if they might look to might look to go all in for Hassan Whiteside. He’s younger than D12 and would be cheaper. The Bucks could possibly package Monroe who’d have nice trade value too. I wonder would Al Horford be a better fit than Monroe at C for them given his better mid range/perimeter game.

If they wanted a 3 point shooter to help spread play then Ryan Anderson might be an option, he is still only 27 years old, has been a proven 6th man. Or if Aaron Afflalo opts out at the Knicks, they could put a competitive offer to him.

As regards the draft Poetel or Skal would be decent choices in their draft range. Furkan Korkmaz might be worth looking at too, he has nice size for an SG and could add muscle to play some SF. He is described as being a shooter and making great use of his shots in a team syzstem which seems a good fit for the Bucks. He only turns 19 around draft day so would be one of the younger players in the draft.

The other option for the Bucks at say 10-13 in the draft might be to package their pick with say Monroe to see how far up they could move. Teams like Boston/Toronto who are drafting in a falsely high position and looking to contend might have interest. Toronto have a slight gap at PF but all would depend where respective picks end up.
