OhCanada-ParticipantThere’s been countless discussions on this website about Thon over the past few years so now that he has been drafted to the Milwaukee Bucks I’m wondering how people think his career will be.
Milwaukee is the best situation Maker could possibly be in. Better than Toronto who needs a stretch big, better than Golden State, better than Cleveland, better than San Antonio. Milwaukee has a plan and have been drafting on potential forever. They always select the player they think has the highest potential with thier 1st round picks and disregard most risk hoping they eventually cash in on superstar talents which seems to have worked great for Greek Freak and Parker.
Jennings led them to the playoffs but at the time of the draft was considered risky because he wasnt playing NCAA basketball, similar to how Maker didnt play NCAA ball but instead played more HS. Sanders was a great young talent that was projected to go late 1st early 2nd. Henson was raw and skinny.
Sometimes they strike out like with Yi Jianlian and Joe Alexander but most of thier selections have decent careers.
Thon should fit into this teams philosophy perfectly. The same way they developed Antetokoumpo from a lanky talented kid into a strong NBA star they will attempt to apply on Maker. He seems like a bright kid that is willing to listen and dying to learn. He should be productive quicker than people think. This is a very young team so it’s not like he’s the only kid on the floor and they need shooting.
He should have a similar rookie season too Giannis and I expect him to develop and grow the same way. He should be a better version of Bobby Portis. Bobby Portis but with more upside all around.

DanielcmccartyParticipantBucks gonna look like dream team in layup lines. A lot of 6’10 or taller guys that can dribble and move.

circumlocution75ParticipantJabari Parker & the Greak Freak give them Two Top level future Stars
Middleton & a few of their other players give them a good solid core
& Maker might be a Hit ——– This Draft was Incredibly Weak
I could Not believe the way the Analysts were talking Up Kris Dunn & Buddy Hield & Marquiss Chriss & Bender & Jaylen Brown!?!?!?!
These are guys whose Ceiling is NBA Starter! ———- & there is Nothing wrong w/ that but Teams are Hoping to Find future Stars in the Top 8
& NONE of these players are future Super Stars……….. We All know or at least have heard of Thon Maker on this Site ——- Is he a Long Shot??? ——sure but he’s Healthy & there is a Chance he could be the Steal of the Draft
I Luv the Top 2 picks ———- Super Star potential ——– But after #2, no one really knows what these guys will become but I think Everyone agrees it will be Several years before we find out —– so why not take a Chance on Thon Maker?
Jabari Parker, Greek Freak & Thon Maker are a Very exciting core — I’d buy a Ticket to watch the Bucks when they come to my town!

Captain LParticipantI was one who was hoping my Jazz would find a way to get Maker but Milwaukee seems to have a sense of a players potential. I wanted the Jazz to go after Giannis when he was available, so I really like what the Bucks are doing and will be rooting them. Maker has a good work ethic and a good attitude , so I see him being a very good player within a few years. To me he has the potential to be better than Gobert, he is a better athlete and can shoot much better already. Being skinny is the only thing I see as a problem. Kevin Garnett was way skinny and he panned out OK.

Hype MachineIve been saying all along that Maker will be a very similar player to KG.
Same size, athleticism, motor and ball handling skills. KG a bit better from mid-range, Maker a bit better from 3pt range.
While some people on here need to stop listening to draft experts who simply have an axe to grind because they kept getting blindsided with misinformation by his secretive guardian (who now looks like a genius), the Hype Machine knows the real deal when he sees it.

properbreaksParticipantThe Bucks picking Maker reminds me of them picking The Greek Freak in 2013. A kind of week draft, not deep and they say forget it and aim for the rafters with their pick and lean on upside. With the way that the Freak turned out, I bet they couldn’t believe that they got another swing for the fences. And the swing for the fences this draft was THIS GUY…..
I don’t see Maker as a potential all out bust because how often do you see guys over 7 feet who are athletic, can dribble like a small forward, block shots well, play physical and have a high motor bust? I’m not saying that he’s going to be an all star, but I’m saying he has a lot going for him with the size that he has and being a competitive guy who doesn’t mind contact.
Usually the bust guys who are big men have next to no inside moves, can’t go off the dribble, but most of all are soft. The fact that he has a high motor is going to say a lot, plus he has small forward skills for real at 7’1 and is pretty athletic. The good thing about going to Milwaukee is they will try him in different lineups and different positions. When they put the Freak at the point I thought it was a great move just like I thought it was a great move to finally let Jabari take a lot of shots. It’s not about how good they are now, but developing them into how good they can be. I see no reason why they wouldn’t treat Thon the same way.

HitsterParticipantWith Giannis I always think it’s amusing that a lot of shrewd drafting teams let him fall so far or no-one made a move to get up the draft and take him.
Dallas who are a well run team let him go past them, imagine Giannis with Dirk to help him improve his shooting. Also Boston were only one place behind the Bucks in that year’s draft – Danny Ainge could surely have pulled a deal to get up a few places to get him unless he was hoping he’d fall to them.
The Bucks’ GM John Hammond has a good draft record and despite a few duds notably Jason Alexander, he seems to draft on upside and draft well. Combine this with Jason Kidd’s basketball brain and the Bucks have a decent duo to make key decisions.
I agree the Bucks are a good place for Thon to go if he was drafted high, he isn’t on a big market team wanting instant returns or considered a franchise saviour. He can be brought along steadily given minutes, he’ll get some shots as the opposition cope with Giannis, Jabari and co.
The Bucks have developed several of their current roster via the draft and can hopefully do the same with Thon.

HeroescantdieParticipantIt’s Joe Alexander, He’s pretty athletic, but his lack of ball handling, tweener label and lack go to move IMO was the reason he didn’t pan out

Hype MachineThe jig is up man…I’ll let you in on a little secret.
Maker was never a 2nd rounder…or even a late 1st rounder.
Lesson learned – Don’t trust mock drafts that project player’s stock based on the amount and reliability of information they give to them leading up to the draft.
Makers and his guardian made every draft expert to look like a fool when he declared, and embarassed them again when he got taken at #10.
Don’t allow yourself to be hustled a third time by staying on the Anti-Maker train when he hits the L and starts playing like a 20yo KG
